“I’m your bodyguard. That means your body is mine.” His lips twitch. "To guard."
Jessa Blair, internationally famous superstar and actress, has a stalker problem. Well, she’s always had stalkers and crazed fans but this time, it’s serious enough that the FBI has had to step in to keep her safe. They can’t seem to figure out who this mysterious stalker is so until they can solve the riddle, Jessa will be under lock and key of a personal bodyguard.
Rowan Matthews, former Green Beret and ex-member for the Black Wings Motorcycle Club, is now the new personal bodyguard for Jessa Blair. Not a Hollywood native, he expects to meet a vapid and narcissistic starlet. But what he finds instead is a brave and charismatic woman who has perfected the false smile to cover up her hidden wounds and pains.
But the stalker won’t leave Jessa alone. And the Black Wings MC aren’t content to ride on without their missing brother. With two immovable forces pushing down upon them, can Rowan keep Jessa protected? Can he guard her body? Can she guard his heart?
It came to be that I began to develop a strong hatred for the word, 'likability.'
This sentiment may be tenfold by the end of my review.
Editor, Oh, Editor, Wherefore Art Thou, Editor?
The spacing and paragraphs are screwy because of hanging sentences & breaks where there should be flow... flow where there should be breaks. It's a mess!
The grammar is lacking, particularly comma usage. I often found myself wondering if the author was playing spin the wheel on the comma.
As for writing style, I've seen worse, but this is in no way good. The dialogue is too sparse, too simple, and underwhelming all around. The flow is absolutely suffocated with inner thoughts. The phrasing is okay in spots, but there are also many sentences that read like a kindergartener composition.
I'm sorry if being blunt is offensive, but I'm a firm believer that one can't fix it if they don't know what all is broken and can't prioritize the repairs if they don't know the severity.
Plot
It's slow.
It's flowery.
It's irritating.
It's suffocating.
Actress has a stalker. The FBI hires a former military man and MC rider, Rowan, to be her bodyguard. Plot holes out of the gate: A) The FBI doesn't hire private bodyguards. B) If they did, they wouldn't hire a former MC biker, even if he's ex-military.
From that point, there basically isn't a plot to have any holes. There are press junkets, business meetings, & stylists on her end and a stray thought here and there back to his corrupt *coughs in hand* MC on his part.
The romance plot is a constant monologue of how fucking unexpectedly wonderful he thinks she is and how physically spectacular she finds him. < That easily makes up 90% of what I've read thus far at almost the 40% mark in the book.
It's soooooo much overboard telling , no screaming, how mfing wonderful these two are in their attributes that it makes likability impossible.
I'm annoyed with their thoughts. I'm ready to stop being told a flowery attribute wax.
The whole thing feels like those irritating jackasses who set up some miracle vitamin or hair product booth in the middle of the mall. They chase you down as you're walking by and start shoving their product down your throat and their snake oil salesman pitch down your ears. The aggressive pleas to believe and buy as you duck, dodge, and push past them are what ultimately spells their own doom, and the same thing happened for this author in her aggressive, repetitive chase to tell readers the wonders of her characters.
I word of advice...
No...
Yes....
Conclusion
I'm calling it quits at 38%. There's nothing I can say good about anything I've read, nothing to hold me to the current page, & even less to encourage me that it could potentially get better. Peace ¥
Actress Jessa Blair has a relentless stalker and the FBI are out of bodyguard options, so they do the unthinkable, hire Rowan Mattthews. Rowan is a former green beret as well as ex biker from the Black Wings MC, but he can protect Jessa better than anyone.
Rowan thinks he is getting a high maintenance diva but he couldn't be more wrong. Jessa is sweet and he finds himself falling for her, but his ex-club is determined to drag him back which could cause problems keeping Jessa safe.
I thought there were some good things in this story but thought it really was two separate stories combined. I wouldn't necessarily call this a MC book. Not sure where this series is leading too, would probably check out the next book but it wasn't quite what I expected.
I will admit that this book was a little better than the last book I read, but still not even average for my liking. The chemistry between characters didn't even get handsy till after 50% of the book was over. I'm also guessing that writers aren't worried about protection anymore. I mean come on, that to me is saying these authors are promoting unsafe sex! THAT'S NOT COOL! Also the formatting of this book didn't flow properly for my tastes, the spacing everything. Sorry.
I enjoyed the characters Rowan was straight forward and did what was right even if he lost friends he cared for innocent people all around him. I really liked jessa she was very strong, smart and determined she didn't let anything stop her in getting what she wanted not even when Rowan had left her hanging a couple of times. I liked her maturity level.
For a book written in 2015, I am surprised at the proofreading errors that occurred. Fair enough, I read the bonus copy attached to "The Billionaire's Step - Complete series" edition, but still, very disappointing. The background story was great, although I don't know if the FBI would "find" a contract bodyguard for some one, less alone work in the way as described.
This story was filled with fire and ice. Jessa is a starlet who has been America's darling for 10 years and is yearning to break out of that role. However with having a stalker around that changes things for her. The changes happen when Rowen comes on the scene. He is her replacement bodyguard that makes her feel things that scare her. As Rowan and Jessa become closer so does the danger. I really enjoyed the book considering this is the first I have read from this author. Let's see if her other works hold the same appeals.
This was a free download and I enjoyed every minute spent within these pages. A fast spicy, sexy slight "who's the bad guy" read. Great characters, fast but developed storyline. Also the wish Jessa and Rowan had more books together... A continuing storyline for them.
This is a wonderful story. I enjoyed every minute of it. It is More than just a motorcycle club romance. The drama around being a star, the danger of a stalker and a super hot bodyguard. If, anything, I would like to read more about this couple. I loved it.
A strong headed actress and having a bodyguard tell her what to do was not good thing. But ex biker Rowan saw the real woman, feel in love protecting her from her past and his. Loved this as a HEA!
Just skimmed through the whole book. Not very well structured or written, in my opinion. It felt as if the book was 'rushed' and the progress of Jessa and Rowan falling in love so quick was not believable
I loved the drama and the connection between Rowan and Jessa. Right as all the excitement got started, the story ended. I would like to see further into their future.
I just could not get into this book at all. It was more about the telling of how Hollywood works then an actual love story. I liked the characters but it just never got up off the ground. Over all just didn't work for me
sounded interesting but was a dnf by page five because the formatting gave me a headache. chapter headings flush with the margin, excess indentation of paragraphs, weird spacing between words and between paragraphs...all that stuff was too distracting so i couldn't even really get started on it
I think the "i love you" portion of the book moved rather quickly, and the ending was wrapped up in a nano second, but other than that, it was a good book. Loved Rowan!!!!
