Sammy loves life at the Valley Home for Lost Dogs, having fun with his friends. But why is it taking him so long to find a new owner? Join him on his adventure as he tries to find out.
Perfect for bedtime reading and early readers, this delightful story introduces the incredibly cute puppy, Sammy The Sheep Dog. With beautiful illustrations by Gill Dallowe on every page, filled with fun and drama, this story will be a hit with all children who love animals.
I found this free on amazon and even though I'm clearly not in its target group I downloaded because it is about a sheep dog. One of my dogs is a sheep dog, even though she has never seen a sheep in her life. Anyway, back to the Sammy the sheep dog. It's a nice children's book, well written, and has good illustrations. The story has a good amount of drama, humor, and fun. It has got a good build up. The author and illustrator touch very lightly upon why dogs sometimes end up in shelters, which I think is very well done. There is nothing harsh about it, after all it is aimed at young kids, and they resolve it very well. I think it is a good, fun book, and recommend it to anyone looking for a children's book about dogs.
My grandson used to love playing with our sheep dog and thought this was an ideal book to read to him when he came to stay for a couple of days. He loved listening to the story and loved the illustrations. So pleased to have found this book free whilst searching for a few books.
Sammy is a dog hoping for a new family. His current caretaker is great but a temporary arrangement. As the other animals place scary thoughts in Sammy’s head he decides to take off and ends up on an adventure that leads him back and then to his new home.
It’s a fun tale of friends and family with some great illustrations. You can’t help but fall in love with little Sammy and a few of the other animals (Dudley was my favorite).
This is a cute story about a special puppy named Sammy. The kids enjoyed the story, but were not impressed with the illustrations. Sammy is supposed to be a Border Collie, but obviously the illustrator is not familiar with dog breeds. That being said, it gives a good lesson on not worrying about the future. Good things are coming!
Super cute! Perfect little bedtime story for my toddler. Entertaining, sweet, and short. My son likes to read the same books a million times but I don't think I mind reading about Sammy over and over 🤷🏾♀️
This is a wonderful story about a puppy who is waiting for a new home. He gets teased by a cat and starts worrying about what his new life will be like, only to realise he was worrying for nothing.
I had downloaded this particular book a while ago but every time I needed something to read I would always find myself looking at the book then passing it over. Why would I pass over a book like this? I am not quite sure although I think that it probably had to do with the fact of how Sammy looks plus not knowing whether this would be a childrens' book or a YA book due to the cover's illustration.
Fortunately for my finding this was actually a pretty decent childrens' story since it takes the reader to a rescue dog foundation where the reader gets to met Sammy. It gives the reader only a brief look at some of the duties and what it can take to get a special dog matched to the right home. At the same time it also covers the feelings that can be felt whether it is a good emotion or whether it may be a bad emotion so this can be a great book, especially for those who may have been adopted or are going through the process of adoption in their own lives since it is a tricky situation.
Otherwise the book's reading is easy enough to follow along and understand for the youngest of readers. Due to the contents an adult may want to read the book first before allowing their child to partake of the book, especially if it may cause some emotional problems.
And finally my disliking of the book are the illustrations. Although Sammy does turn out looking cute yet cartoonish he outsizes most of the other dogs. As if that wasn't enough there are some characters portrayed in the book whose character shapes were somewhat drawn rather frighteningly creepy and more cartoonish maybe to distinguish them as villains or evil compared to the rest of the good characters in the book. In the end to me it took away from the book in my opinion since it gave it more of a weird vibe.
All in all a good book and one with several good messages to both young and old. Would be more than willing to read some of the other Sammy books to see what goes on with him and what new adventures he finds.
What a sweet and endearing short story just right for 2-6 year olds!
I enjoyed these sweet short picture ebooks of Sammy as well as the beautiful illustrations, too! I am just saddened that the author does not make it possible for one with a small fixed income to not be able to download any more of his ebooks unless he either uses KU or put these up for free from time to time or would let me read and review forRob with a free review copy, see? Okay? I wish to recommend this for kids ages 2-6 or others who like these sweet, clean short animal stories and give it five stars for such a beautiful ebook. I received this one for free and in return, here is my honest review. Super job Rob! By Angela @ lambkina4@gmail.com Thanks! Angela L.
The first few pages were boring and would have benefited from more punctuation (comas and exclamation marks in particular), and a variety of sentence lengths would be better. A combination of more punctuation and a variety of sentences would make this more engaging when read aloud. The main plot was engaging. Good use of misinformation as a device to create drama on a first read, and humour on further reads.
Although I wasn't entirely in love with the illustrations used in this story, (computer generated artwork tends to lack the depth and imagination found in handmade illustrations,) the story itself was very cute.
