Robert Kirkman is an American comic book writer best known for his work on The Walking Dead, Invincible for Image Comics, as well as Ultimate X-Men and Marvel Zombies for Marvel Comics. He has also collaborated with Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane on the series Haunt. He is one of the five partners of Image Comics, and the only one of the five who was not one of the original co-founders of that publisher.
Robert Kirkman's first comic books were self-published under his own Funk-o-Tron label. Along with childhood friend Tony Moore, Kirkman created Battle Pope which was published in late 2001. Battle Pope ran for over 2 years along with other Funk-o-Tron published books such as InkPunks and Double Take.
In July of 2002, Robert's first work for another company began, with a 4-part SuperPatriot series for Image, along with Battle Pope backup story artist Cory Walker. Robert's creator-owned projects followed shortly thereafter, including Tech Jacket, Invincible and Walking Dead.
Another exciting Super Dinosaur adventure. I like the human emotions that SD emotes and has to deal with. The extended Dynamo family is extremely fun to read and although designed for all readers is treat for adults. Overall, a pleasure.
Another short, fun, over the top kids' adventure. It's a marked improvement over the first two volumes.
The volume starts with a nice opening recap. This was super helpful since it had been a long time since I read the previous volume. I wish more serial comic book collections would include this, especially Kirkman's own The Walking Dead.
The story is centered around "inner Earth", an alternate Earth on the other side of the Earth's crust. While this concept is nothing new what I found most interesting was the switch in gravitational polarity between the inner and outer Earths. Although it doesn't really make much sense from a physics standpoint, since there's no reason the gravity would flip from pulling toward the Earth's core to pushing away, the explanation of compensating for "falling upward" was neat. Too bad the execution of that was all tell and no show, coupled with the fact that pretty much everyone has a jetpack in this series.
The old Romeo and Juliet trope is employed but for the target audience (i.e. elementary and middle school kids) that's still shiny and new. And the quick, pat resolution is to be expected given the frenetic pace of the series.
There is an overarching storyline throughout Super Dinosaur about finding Derek's mom. It looks like the next volume might address that more. Hopefully we get more of the series' main "big bad" as well.
A young boy and his father are working with a small t-rex to save the earth. A entire world was found under the earth's crust, a world where dinosaurs still exist. The boy, his father and their dino friend must work to protect this utopia from evil villain Max Maximus.
The three main characters in this book are Derek Dynamo, a ten year old boy who fights Max Maximus along wit his talking t-rex, Super Dinosaur and Dr. Dynamo Derek's father. The three live together in an fortress in the mountains.
This book is set in the near future, after Maximus and Dynamo find inner-earth. The setting is absolutely crucial to the book, because the entire point of the plot is to protect inner-earth.
The plot is shabbily written and this book did in no way satisfy my needs as a reader. However, if you are looking for a classic comic with lots of punches to the jaw, this is the book for you.
Good mystery and world building as we learn more about the Inner-Earth and even learning about some of the other unique things about the Super Dinosaur universe. Also some great character development as we learn more about the Exile and his motives. We also learn why he is called the Exile and his background. What we learn actually makes the Exile an actually sympathetic villain and part of me wanted the team up between him and Derek to have continued as I feel he could have made a really good ally for SD. Still a nice addition to the Super Dinosaur universe.
Derek Dynamo and Super Dinosaur travel to Inner Earth and the Moon fighting off all kinds of dinosaurs/aliens/etc. They consistently remain up-to-date with new armor and gadgets. Now they're on a mission to retrieve what was taken away from them.
This volume improves over the last as a story actually starts to develop between the action scenes. This might work in the long run as a sort of hyperkinetic Jonny Quest for the current generation of young boys.
