Theosophical literature, as well as traditional texts from the world's religious and philosophical traditions, are full of terminology that may be quite unfamiliar to most readers. The Theosophical Glossary, published in 1892, and reproduced here, attempts to give information on many of the principal Sanskrit, Pahlavi, Tibetan, Pali, Chaldean, Persian, Scandinavian, Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Kabalistic and Gnostic terms that the student of theosophy or comparative religion/philosophy will encounter. In full the glossary constitutes 389 pages, covering over 2700 terms.
This edition is a digitized reproduction of the original 1892 edition. The original pagination has been maintained.
Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (Russian: Еле́на Петро́вна Блава́тская, Yelena Petrovna Blavatskaya, often known as Madame Blavatsky; 12 August [O.S. 31 July] 1831 – 8 May 1891) was a Russian occultist, philosopher, and author who co-founded the Theosophical Society in 1875. She gained an international following as the leading theoretician of Theosophy, the esoteric religion that the society promoted.
I finished my skimming through catching the high points I wanted to get . I am sure I'll be consulting this later for specific points and for a general browse through . AFAIK , GRS Mead , the metaphysical scholar and secretary to Blavatsky , was the primary compiler of the text and entries . I have this as an E-book .
It's one of its kind ... the book provided me with some valuable information concerning the theosophical society and its believes... and even though I am not quite sure of the credibility of their believes, I find it worthy of my time and studies :)
When my father gave this book to me as a present (my mon freaked out! :P) I was fascinated! I was always a fan of mysterious-metaphysical stuff and this book actually gave answers to some of my questions. It is so unique and interesting!
