'You Are a Winner' is a motivational book detailing the overcoming of life's challenges by practical application of christian faith and decisive action. The book goes deep into the causes of problems, hindrances to victory, renewal of the mind in preparation for battle, facing challenges head-on and the steps to becoming an over-comer. There are answers to everyday questions of christian life, vivid and relevant examples from the bible and inspiring real life testimonies from the writer and those around him. The book shifts the individual's attention from seeking solutions from the outside to looking inwards for self-appraisal and self-motivation.
I found 'You are a Winner' to be a work of passion by an author well versed in his subject area. The only distraction were the errors found throughout the book which an edit can rectify to improve the readability of the book, choice of words in some instances and comprehension of its message.
I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
The author, Christian, has a clear and brilliant mind. His book was very inspiring to me, filled with wisdom. I really appreciated the way appropriate scripture spoke to me and encouraged me. I loved the words of wisdom about relationships - so true. The author pontificates that in some instances we are our own worst enemy for not becoming the people God would like us to become because of strongholds we've built in our minds through erroneous thinking. Get out of this stagnation and onto a fuller life by renewing our minds. (There's so much in this book, my attempt falls way short to explain what the author was teaching.) It's accomplished through cognitive therapy by associating with people who help rather than hurt, what we feed our mind which usually comes through the senses of sight and hearing and of course through the grace of God. There is so much to think about and learn from this book that any one topic could be expanded into another complete book; such as, find your purpose in life and get on with fulfilling that purpose. This isn't a self-help book, secrets of attracting wealth or any of that. It's deeper and more honest of that. I suppose, those who haven't experienced the living God in their lives will scoff at most of it. Those who have met God and accepted him will say Amen! I consider the opportunity to read it a blessing.
Well, first off, this is a CHRISTIAN book. I don't know why anyone who isn't the least bit religious would pick this up and then ramble a five page complaint in their reviews about how overly religious it is...Strange...but whatever.
I’m Christian So I was naturally drawn to this book, but I’m not usually a fan of Christian non-fiction so I didn’t really know what to expect. I’ll say that everything was pleasing, I enjoyed the Scriptures and the lessons tied to them by the author’s writing. Everything came together as a cohesive message, that we, as children of the Most High God, are winners and we should behave as such.
This book will encourage your faith and build you up in the Word of God. It’s a great text for those who aren’t sure where to begin their Bible studies but also a nice read for those Christians looking for a pick-me-up. I felt better after reading many of the chapters and I do think I have a better grasp of my faith and how to handle myself in life’s many difficult situations. Sometimes we face trials and sometimes we don’t know where God is during those trials but after reading You Are A Winner, you will learn how to grow closer to the Father and know that He is there, even though you may not feel Him.
One of the quotes from the preface, “We are imprisoned in awful attitudes…” I think this is the strongest line from the book, it starts off very powerfully right from the beginning. Many Christians, young and old, struggle with keeping up the faith and it starts with their thinking. I think Ibiloye really did well addressing this from the start, because if you don’t think like a winner then you won’t act like one—Christian or not.
Even though this is strictly a work for the Christian audience I think people who are not necessarily Christian but perhaps religiously curious will find enjoyment and encouragement in this book because of the way the author ties everything into everyday situations. He talks about our society and how that can affect out thinking and our behavior, all the negativity we are fed from the television whether it’s the news or reality TV. He even discusses what we cannot control.
“A good person can be transformed by an unexpected event…” I think that’s something that can be said about everyone, whether they are religious or not. So many people who aren’t familiar with the Christian faith have a high standard for our behavior but many forget that we are human too. Even though we are Christian, we still sin and we are still susceptible to fall into darkness. Bringing this fact to life in this book was a plus for me because it makes me feel better when I mess up.
This book breaks down a lot of our problems, issues faced by people of every walk of life; Christian, unsaved, gay, straight, male, female, black, white, etc. It really presents the Christian person as a human being no different from anyone else, and it shows us how we can elevate ourselves in the Faith. It’s a great, encouraging read I would recommend to many followers of Christ.
My only complaint with this book is that the format is a little odd, there aren’t exactly ‘chapters’ but rather sections. Maybe that’s a thing for non-fiction? Also, at times it feels like English is not the author’s first language. A simple proofread from another friend or editor would have earned one more star but I think 4 out of 5 isn’t half bad at all.
You are a Winner! takes the reader on a spiritual journey through life with suggestions to help overcome the obstacles and struggles one faces every day…the strongholds. It is a very sincere, heart-felt book and the author’s true desire for everyone to achieve more success and happiness in their lives with God’s help is apparent from the start.
Throughout the book, specific examples are given of strongholds we all face...jobs, family, relationships, and self-worth, to name a few. The author offers practical suggestions, tactics, and prayers to get the reader through these difficulties. The author shares his wisdom with lessons such as, “If we spend time hoping someone will suffer consequences for the hurt they did to us, we are allowing them to hurt as again.” There is also advice on resisting temptation, on developing healthy relationships, and on setting and achieving goals.
The downside to the book is that there are many instances of grammatical errors and incorrect word choice. At times, I was not able to follow the point the author was trying to make because of these errors. Hopefully an editor can help make the book flow better and help ensure the author’s intentions are correctly stated.

This book is a strange blend of Christian religion, New Age pop psychology, and old-fashioned superstition. It's rambling, disorganized, and repetitive. The English is sufficiently jumbled that I wasn't always able to follow the meaning.
The over-arching message is to abandon negative thinking to have all your problems disappear. While positive thinking is definitely a good thing that improves outcomes and quality of life, it won't cure everything that ails you.
Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of this work is the quoting of the Bible to support that those with physical deformities or who suffer from mental illness like epilepsy or schizophrenia are demons and it's their fault they're the way they are. What a superstitious and backward idea! People afflicted with deformities and illness are the ones most in need of Christian compassion, but that's not what you'll hear in this text. Honestly, this attitude turned my stomach.

In this book the author explains the power of positive thinking and ties this in with his religious beliefs. The main thrust of the book is banishing negativity and becoming a "winner" through positive thoughts and actions will only work if it is closely tied to embracing all the bible teaches and rejecting Satan. The author is enthusiastic and clearly has strong evangelical feelings and seeks to help others with his work. There are hints he has used the methods explained to overcome difficulties in his own life which can only be applauded. He clearly has studied the bible and religious writings in great depth and has a good working knowledge of the psychology behind the power of positive thinking on the mind and body. By linking the two subjects together the book may appeal to and be of assistance to Christians but it does exclude non-Christians. I would have liked to see more accreditation for the psychology aspect of the book as there was a clear difference of writing styles at times as this would give the opportunity for additional reading. The weakest areas of the book are I think also the most important areas which is why I've given a lower rating. The arguments made for the linking of the two subjects were often quite clumsy and hard to follow at times. Just when a clear connection needed to be shown the writing became disjointed with errors of grammar. While I appreciate he may have wanted his message to be more personal to go from quotes from the bible and the science behind the power of positive/negative thinking to using words such as "crap" was just too jolting.
I think there is nothing like insight and faith in ensuring Spiritual victory. That is what the author attempt to emphasize. Our victory is our thinking, knowledge, attitude and faith, ultimately in Christ Jesus
