I've already read the first two books in the series and was really looking forward to this one.
Ada is now at the Alliance and doing well. It was nice to see her settling into the group while keeping the same nice, sometimes snarky Ada, as I've grown to appreciate in the series. She's strong, but not too strong. Assured but not too much so. In other words, fun to cheer for but not so much a hero that she becomes unbelievable. She needs help, acknowledges that and accepts it.
Kay, on the other hand, is still brooding and difficult. We learn more about him and his situation, but his thick skull is as frustrating as ever. There is, of course, a type of romance between him and Ada, but this by no means overtakes the main plot, acting more as a little breeze along the side - a stiff one.
One thing I appreciate about this series is the fantasy. There's still all sorts of new creatures, twists and turns in this book which keep it from feeling repetitive. Several things aren't based on logic, but seeing as this is a alien/magical adventure taking place on various worlds throughout the universe, logic won't always have a place anyway. The ending came very unexpected and left quite a few holes, but I'm suspecting (heavily) that there is more to come. It will be interesting to see where the adventures go next, since this one has opened up a whole new realm as far as Ada's concerned.
The action is non-stop and there are enough sub-plots to keep things bouncing around. I especially enjoyed getting to know more about the other characters and enjoyed watching them mold into all of this--puzzle pieces sliding into place. There were several choices and events toward the end, which felt a bit thrown together, but a lot happens, so I'm betting if I read through it again, several things might click into place.
Summed up, Collision is a great continuation in this fantasy-filled, high-paced adventure, and I can't wait to see where our heroes end up next.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
