Duped by their own leaders into attacking a group of innocents, Supergirl and Stargirl make a fatal decision. A certain swamp creature also makes a timely intervention.
I'm split on this issue. I really liked the back story stuff about the women fighting in the Spanish Civil War, something that usually gets left out of WWII stories. (At least in modern versions of the history). It was great to see their flashbacks, to see everyone meeting up in a less superhero-y way. But the story with Mera is rapidly loosing my interest. Maybe because it's just such a typical superhero story, a babe in love with a man, fighting monsters and reclaiming her throne. It feels an odd mix especially after the character driven parts of the other stories.
This closes the s cond arc of the series. #15 sees Supergirl and Stargirl save the faked camp and leave Russia. #16 Aquawoman aka Mera joined the Navy, chases U-Boats and sinks them. Supergirl and Stargirl join the Bombshells. #17 Batwoman, Berlin in league with Catwoman and Lex finds a new ally. #18 The final issue in the arc brings every characters to the same point in time. Can't wait for the next issue.
