Kathryn is going to Iron Sword School to take her brother's place and train in the art of fighting. Kathryn makes friends while finding some aspects of school boring and uninteresting partly because she's studied some of them. Kathryn earns a nickname Kath from among her friends which helps her fit in better. When Kath's fellow classmate Zack is kidnapped from and rescues him from harm. Zack becomes paranoid about his safety deciding to leave school before he's kidnapped again. Who wants to hurt Zack? Will Kath let Zack go off alone? Your answers await you in The Brazen Blade.

Billy Wong is my favorite author for writing strong female characters. His Iron Flower Series is among my favorite series. I can't say enough good things about Billy Wong and his female characters. I look forward to my next adventure with this author.

The Brazen Blade by Billy Wong

Kathryn (Kath) goes to Military in place of her brother. Once there she is noted for her exceptional skills with a sword. She becomes known as Kath the Blade. Then one of her new friend is targeted by an assassin and they flee an Kath becomes his protector.

A well written action/adventure with a strong female lead. Kath is very likable, she is just as tough (actually) tougher than most of her peers. The plot is original, with a lot of action. I highly recommend The Brazen Blade to those who love action, with a kick-butt female lead. I also really like the cover it is very fitting to Kath and the story.

From a technical perspective (grammar, spelling, etc...) this book was well written. The story itself, however, was very juvenile and I suspect written for a much younger audience. I found the characters mainly annoying but again, they might appeal to younger readers. While the action scenes were plentiful, I couldn't get past the fact that the protagonist can get run through the chest or abdomen with a sword and carry on with strenuous activity with a few winces. I realize the story is a heroic, fantasy and to that end I can greatly stretch my imagination with a little explanation. But there is a line and for me, I think this story crosses it.

Billy Wong did it again and really impressed me as a writer, I thoroughly enjoy his talents which never cease to keep me emotionally engaged throughout this entire vivid adventure! I think the evolution of the characters was absolutely perfect and the continuance of the fantasy, the action, the excitement and awesome plot! I love the strength and loyalty that Kathryn has throughout this series and the bravery she displays! She’s such an awesome and powerful heroine. I loved losing myself in this action packed, well written fantasy! I highly recommend you check this and author Billy Wong’s other books! Great stuff!!

While I really wanted to enjoy this book, especially after reading the description, the writing was juvenile and didn't follow the rule of "show don't tell." The plot isn't completely fleshed out for the reader, and the main characters aren't physically described well (making it difficult to paint a picture in the mind).

The fight scenes are the most descriptive in the book, but that doesn't save it from a 2-star rating.
