I'm a British author and live in the beautiful Chiltern Hills in England with my husband and cat.

I have suffered from M.E. for many years, which has put something of a kick in my gallop - to put it mildly.

I've always loved reading, and it has kept me going through the dark days of my illness, when I was unable to do much else. I read several different genres, but I have a particular love of medieval history novels. I am fairly picky though. There are only a handful of writers from that genre whom I really enjoy, Sharon Penman being my favourite. Luckily for me her books are huge, meaty tomes which, as well as providing excellent value for money, keep me glued to them for days.

Happily, I am now just about well enough to indulge my new-found love of writing, although It takes a lot out of me to complete each book. I pay a price in exhaustion and pain - but I love to write, so I shall keep going as long as I am able. Most of my books have a feel-good quality about them and would class as flinch-free fiction. I like to feel I have left my readers with smiles on their faces. I started with poetry, then short stories, but I have now graduated to historical fiction with a dash of time travel. I have several more books to finish in the Out of Time series. After that, I'll wait to see what happens next.

A quick and fun read, this is a collection of short stories with the Halloween theme, which makes it perfect for this holiday. My favorite was the last one. While still in the spirit of the day, it had a little more to it that could also make it great all year around. People who know me will understand why I liked that one the best.

What a fun collection of short stories! I'm not a fan of gore and spooky stories, but even without those things, these stories still deliver the spirit of Halloween (get it? Spirit?) I've read several other stories by this author, and it always amazes me how she can come up with a twist to the story that I never see coming! Trick or Treat, the first story, is the best example of this. You seriously will not see it coming! And I'm not spoiling it! Miss Black's Happiest Hallowe'en will have you cackling with delight, rubbing your hands together with vengeful glee. And Hallowe'en Party is a step away from Mrs. Livingstone's usual style, but she does it very well! Fun Halloween Read!!!

This was not what I expected after reading the very short blurb.
Either I don't get the British humor or it's just not my cup of tea. With some stretch you could place the short stories onto the black humor shelf but I'm not very sure about - especially since I don't appreciate this kind of fun and avoid it if I can.
The last short story (the longest one with about 50% of the collection) is centered around an alien (kind of a reconnaissance officer) and another genre I don't like and avoid.

If it were not for the great writting style and a reach vocabulary I think it would've been a loss for me - at least I learned some new words and expressions and enjoyed the language.

Three very short Halloween stories offered free by the author. These quick tales have O'Henry-type twists to them that made me smile. Fun and just right for reading between answering the doorbell for your neighborhood ghosts and goblins.

It's a book for those who enjoy Hallowe'en but don't want to read about ghosts, ghouls and the supernatural.

Short & Unspooky

I snagged this a year ago during the Black Friday sale and kind of forgot about it until I was scanning through what books are going to be in this upcoming sale.

At 16 pages, this was a very easy book to buzz through. However, the stories weren't for me. One of them had a bit of dark humor that I'm pretty sure, if it happened, would be illegal. None of them were scary or creepy. To make myself clear, I don't mind that the stories weren't scary. I just didn't care for them.

Overall, 2 stars. If you need a quick taste of Halloween, you might like this.

I cannot review or rate this little eBook as I am the author, however, as it is so short, I have made it permanently free on as many sites as possible including Nook, Kobo and iBooks. Amazon often charges 99p for it, although I try to keep resetting it to free.

I hope you enjoy it.
