This book is a MUST read for all. Careful that the seduction of reading this however does not lull the soul from duty. Prayer and fasting.
"Dear children, my Son is born. Your Savior is here with you. What prevents your hearts from receiving Him? What all is false within them? Purify them by fasting and prayer. Recognize and receive my Son. He alone gives you true peace and true love. The way to eternal life is He - My Son! Thank you!." (January 2, 2006)
"Be prudent because the devil tempts all those who have made a resolution to consecrate themselves to God... " (June 16, 1983)
"Fasting gives birth to prophets and strengthens the powerful; fasting makes lawgivers wise. Fasting is a good safeguard for the soul, a steadfast companion for the body, a weapon for the valiant, and a gymnasium for athletes. Fasting repels temptations, anoints unto piety; it is the comrade of watchfulness and the artificer of chastity. In war it fights bravely, in peace it teaches stillness." – St. Basil the Great
Written in the early 2000s and based on the messages of Jesus' mother Mary at Međugorje which include fasting as one of the 5 stones given to us by Mary, this book focuses on bread and water fasts. Now 20 years later, carbs and gluten are often given a bad rap and there are many other books out there about fasting (intermittent, alternate day, prolonged, etc.). Whether you're fasting for your health, spiritual reasons, or both, this book will help you look at fasts and your own fasting habits differently.
I have been trying to fast on bread and water on Wednesdays and Fridays for a while. I am a failure at the water part but getting better related to bread. I have had many questions, and this book answered most of them as well as giving me a better perspective on the reasoning behind this form of fasting. I highly recommend it to anyone who would like to know more about fasting or about Medjugorje.
Nice short book that taught me how to fast well. God wants us to fast and pray about important and urgent things in this life. By God's grace, I get a little better each day that I persist.
