Marilyn K. Hume is an Australian author, born in 1948, and based in Brisbane, Australia.

Hume graduated as a teacher in 1967, specializing in Art and Ancient History before commencing teaching high school students. While teaching, she studied university courses as an external student in English and Ancient History. Along the way, Hume obtained a BA, an MA, a Master of Literary Studies degree and a Phd in Arthurian Literature.

In 1996, Hume was encouraged to enter an historical romance writing competition conducted by the Random House Publishing Group under the sponsorship of a popular women’s magazine. Hume had no interest in romance writing, but she dashed off a novel based on her family history. The novel won second prize from a massive field of recognised authors - and she won $5,000 for her efforts.

In 2007, Hume retired from the Queensland Education Department, and immediately commenced to write a trilogy based on the life and times of King Arthur of Britain.

Hume’s agent, the Dorie Simmonds Agency in London, brokered a contract with Headline Review to publish the three books in the trilogy. This agreement soon became six books, for Hume soon produced a further trilogy on the life and times of Merlin, which is now a prequel to the Arthurian trilogy.

Her works are now published at six-monthly intervals, and the author maintains a punishing schedule involving eight hours of research and/or writing every day. She doesn’t believe that there is any such thing as ‘writer’s block’, and loves the whole creative process.

Hume intends to write at least 30 novels before ‘she drops off the perch’. She reads voraciously and adores meeting friends, attending rummage sales, making porcelain dolls and painting portraits.

This wonderful book marks the end of the fabulous "Tintagel" trilogy by the author M.K. Hume, which is also a great achievement from this lady author after a very serious illness.
At the beginning of the book you'll notice a well documented list of Dramatis Personae, as well as three wonderful Maps, with two of Britain and one of the Twin Routes from Arelate, Gallia, to Venta Belgarum.
While at the end of the book you'll find very superbly explained Author's Notes and not to forget a Glossary of Place Names, and one of British Tribal Names.
Storytelling is of a very good quality, for the author brings her knowledge and learning about this period of history to the best of her ability to the forefront in this tale of loyalty, betrayal, love and hate, and she expresses them beautifully in her own personal fashion, and thus making this book such a thrilling and believable read.
Historical and fictional figures who are featuring in this beautiful book come vividly to life within this story, and so making this historical tale of the Celts of Roman Britain a real lifelike event.
The final story continues, after a prologue in which Vortigern, returns to Britain after having murdered Constans, son of Constantine, and having abandoned Emperor Constantine himself during his defeat at Arelate, Gallia, at the hands of Emperor Honorius's Legions.
What will follow in this book is a destructive reign by High King Vortigern, the Wolf of Midnight, in which he will break Queen Severa until she dies, and by hiring Saxon warriors to do his bidding and fighting to preserve his Kingship of Britain, but it will be Severa's sons Ambrosius and Uther who will come back to the shores of Britain, after an enforced exile abroad, to claim their ultimate right for the throne of the High King of Britain, while there's also a very important part in this tale that will be played by Pridenow, Severa's foster-brother.
Very much recommended, for this book is a very enjoyable read and one that I like to call as: "A Fantastic Conclusion of the Tintagel Trilogy"!

Congratulations, M. K. Hume, on an outstanding conclusion to the Tintagel Cycle.
I hope everybody reads the Author's Notes at the end of the book, to realise what a passionate and persistent person can achieve in the face of adversity.
You are a true hero of the literary world just as Artorex, Arthur, Merlin, and your various characters are in the stories.
I look forward to what you choose to do next.
I can only echo the praise and sentiments expressed abut your other books, my thanks for all the enjoyment and entertainment, and I marvel at the talents and abilities and dedication by you and your team, for what you achieve.
If this is not really a 'review', it is because I see no purpose in typing repeats of the cover notes or story as others seem to do. It's already on the book cover, enough to draw us in.... I read this book in conjunction with re-reading King Arthur Dragon's Child (second time) - I have one book in one room and one in another . I never liked history or English history at school, you've converted me through 'adventure' within history. Thankyou !!!!!!!!

A great retelling of the early parts of the Arthurian saga.
The style of writing and the storytelling are superb and the mix of historical and legendary characters is superb.
Even if I didn't read the previous instalments in this saga I was hooked since the beginning by the developments of the fast paced plot.
I found this book fascinating and will get the previous instalments in this great saga.
Recommended!
Many thanks to Headline and Netgalley for this ARC
