Collects personal and motivational testimonies from a range of Christian leaders including Bill and Vonette Bright, Charles Colson, James and Shirley Dobson, Elisabeth Elliot, Adrian Rogers, and Ed Young. Original.
The psalmist’s imperative statement, “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story” (Psalm 107:2, NIV)) is the thesis for this collection of salvation stories by men and women—religious leaders, missionaries, musicians, writers, thinkers, pastors, evangelists—who may or may not be known by readers. Each of us who has come to Christ has our own story. The editors stress the importance of sharing our stories “in our own words.” Some stories are very brief, with little elaboration; others are more satisfying with detail. As I read I was reminded again and again that God draws each of us to Himself uniquely with the same basic: “You’re a sinner; I love you; I sent Christ to die for you; I forgive you; come to Me.”
Sixty-two (or more because of husband/wife chapters) stories make up the book. Each story begins with a brief intro by the editors and ends with a comment related to the story, followed by a question to engage the reader regarding his/her life. An apt verse of Scripture closes each chapter.
Chapter sixty-three, “Do You Have a Testimony?” provides an outline for the reader to use in developing his/her personal story. Excellent.
