Mary knows her husband loves her. She doesn’t care what everyone else says. She knows he loves her because she is certain he has remained faithful to her. Geoffrey is very handsome and arrogant enough to know other women would want him but in the three years of their marriage there hasn’t been the slightest hint of an affair. Mary happily puts up with the humiliation, the sexual demands and the beating, safe in the knowledge Geoffrey truly loves her. And he is always so sorry each time she makes one of her little trips to the hospital. She knows it is her fault really. If only she could learn to be a better wife, things would be easier for her. But Geoffrey has more than one secret and when they begin to unravel Mary is forced to reassess everything she thought to be true. She learns even she has power, the power to say, No!
Very well written, harrowing in places, but that's what made it so compelling. A fantastic example of poetic justice. I'd recommend this book to everyone seeking 'Truth in Fiction'
What a brilliant book I have just read I hope anyone that reads this will enjoy. The courage that Mary had and the help she received from her friend and her friend’s husband. I hope you are now enjoying your life.
The story starts out how you would expect but then it takes a turn and sort of turns into a crime/thriller. It's short so it definitely feels like an outline but overall it was better than I thought it was going to be.
I liked this book, a quick read, I did feel the ending was a-bit rushed, without spoiling it for others, I felt after a particular incident it went on fast forward
If only every abused victim could have an outcome like this! A great read even when it's constantly hitting you in the face that its just a made up story. Probably a true insight of abuse happening every day across the world. The unlikely ending leaves you with a feel-good factor. Justice for victims!
This book had a bit of everything going on; Domestic violence, adultery, crime ... I think it really got going during the second half. The only thing I didnt like was when the wife was calling her husband dear, but thats just a personal thing i find it completely old fashioned
I enjoyed this book, so much, that I took my kindle to work and read it in my lunch breaks. Exciting. Sad, gripping - couldn't put it down! Loved it from page one right through to the last page
