Kelly Sanders volunteers at an orphanage and loves working with children—even if they can be a bit mischievous at times.
Marc Stevenson is used to fighting fires, not rescuing damsels in distress out of trees. He thinks Kelly would be perfect for him, except for that one flaw. How does a man, with visions of children, fill a nest that’s sure to be empty if he spends it with the woman he loves?
Will some munchkins playing matchmaker be able to bring Kelly and Marc together? Or will love’s ember never have the chance to be ignited?
The author characterized Christians as narrow-minded and judgmental. There are disparaging remarks about single mothers which seem to suggest they are less valuable in God's eyes. If the Bible is clear on anything it is that all people have value and are worthy of love. While the characters are fairly likable the underlying values expressed are too shallow.
I rate novellas differently than I would a full length novel, because my expectations of character and story development are different. I love a lot of details in my reading and I, naturally, do not expect that from the limited lengths of a novella. That being said, I have also come across novellas that have shocked me with what the author has been able to pull off in its length. This, unfortunately, was not one of those stories. Spring Break still gets 3.5 stars, because Susette Williams is a fine author and I would have no problem reading more of her stories. I have taken a star and a half off, because the relationship between the 2 MC's seems unnaturally rushed, even for a novella.
What I liked: How they met, heroine's back story and current occupation, Hero's family and occupational legacy, their faith and heroine's testimony, and the relationship conflict.
What I didn't care for: Heroine's incomplete back story (I liked the back story and it made sense, but there were some incomplete details;) quick reconciliation and near proposal.
Like I mentioned above, I enjoyed Susette's writing and look forward to trying more of her work. I just found that there were so many details to this novella that could have made an amazing full length novel. Unfortunately, in the restraints of a novella, it left me desperately wanting. I long to know more of Kelly's back story, a fully realized conflict and reconciliation, and a longer courtship to make the near marriage proposal believable. Another 50-100 pages could have really helped and still kept it at a novella length. I think I may have to keep any future novella reading at 100 pages or more in order to feel fully sated by the time the HEA is reached.
I was gifted an ARC of the Love Blossoms Anthology in exchange for my honest opinion. Spring Break is one of seven stories that make up this anthology.
I liked the couple in book 3. Kelly was first introduced to us in book 1 and has a lot of pain in her back story. Because of the length that past of Kelly's never was explored. As a reader I would have liked to experience that along with her and felt because we just hear of it as a past tense we don't get involved with her as I would have liked.
Marc is a wonderful, traditional family man. He is also a fireman, which speaks for itself but again he has mixed feelings when a secret Kelly has locked inside her comes out. What's worse is the full extent of her secret is revealed by Katie from book 1. It is never addressed. I mean Marc does not bring it up with Kelly and does this 180 wanting marriage.
The couple have a falling out and avoid each other and than like I said he switches his whole opinion leaving even you as a reader thinking really without talking about her past. I mean it is a heavy past not this minor thing. I really felt that if your going to touch on such a heavy topic that it needed to be taken deeper than what it was. This book like the other are Christian based and I think the author wanted to keep it light but there is that fine line that has to be thought of. Keeping things light is fine but you also need to include your readers in the experiences of your characters to sell the story. To help your audience understand and sympathize with this couple it just could have been a better story if I could have been taken deeper. Stories are not always beautiful unfortunately but it would have had a greater impact to go from the dark into the light. Enjoy!
Spring Break by Susette Williams Here is a sweet short story about Kelly Sanders, a volunteer orphanage worker who’s past tragedy has left permanent scars; and Marc Stevenson, the firefighter who can rescue Kelly from a tree, but who refuses to rescue her heart from the pain of the past despite the magnetism that draws them together. Unknown to both of them is a mischief making orphan, who has plans to rescue them and their future! This is the first story I’ve read by Susette Williams. It was a ‘short story’ and though enjoyable, it left me wanting more details of the happily ever after ending. Perhaps Ms. Williams will update this sweet read with a full-detail version in the future. So this wraps up the Love Blossom set of Christian, springtime, romance stories. Check out my reviews for the seven authors included in the set: • Kimberly Rae Jordan A Handful of Flowers • Narelle Atkins The Bridesmaid’s Hero • Autumn Macarthur A Lesson in Love • Lynette Sowell Spring at the Barncastle • Jan Thompson Walk You There • Marion Ueckermann A Match for Magnolia • Susette Williams Spring Break The set was only $2.99 on amazon.com as of May 25, 2016, or free on Kindle Unlimited. I did receive an advanced reader copy of this set in exchange for my honest review.

This is the perfect series for my walks. The stories are the right length, keep my interest and are very entertaining, always with a message. Kelly is a volunteer at the Children's shelter and gets stuck in a tree after trying to help one of the kids retrieve their cat. Mark is the fireman who helped rescue her. There is instant chemistry. When Mark finds out that Kelly is unable to have children, he immediately withdraws and cannot deal with the relationship. Kelly is very hurt by this. There is a little matchmaking and advice given, and Mark comes to realize that it's not just him that this effects. Can he and Kelly work through it? You will need to listen to find out their solution.
Allyson Voller once again provides a perfect performance. Her voice for this series is magical.
CHANGING DIRECTION This is an emotional clean Christian story. Kelly Sanders has a dark and painful past that holds some sad secrets. She has a love for children and works with orphaned children. Marc Stevenson comes from a Christian home and long line of firefighters. When a rescue at the orphanage brings Kelly and Marc together, there are sparks between them. What happens when a future dream is extinguished? Will this be the end to their relationship or will God open a new door? Disclosure: I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions, and ratings are my own.
Spring Break, written by Susette Williams, is the first contemporary that I've read by this author. I was pleasantly surprised with this sweet story. This story is about Marc, a fire fighter, and Kelly, an early childhood development teacher, working at an orphanage. Marc falls for Kelly and then she blurts out a personal secret that could affect how he looks at their future. His dad had told him, "Don't marry the woman you can live with. Marry the one you can't live without." Great advise. Now, can he live with Kelly or is he going to find out he can't live without her? I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review.
When I began to read Spring Break I thought it would be a light, cute story, but this story had some meat/substance to it.
What if all you dreamed of comes to you, but not exactly like you hope or prayed for. Kelly was Marc's dream girl, but he let the dream of what he thought he wanted interfere with what God wanted for him. Kelly was beautiful and amazing, what she had to overcome instilled a compassion in her to love those that some considered unlovable. But also to fully trust God no matter what happens, because He always has a great plan for your life.
When Marc and Kelly first met there were definite sparks, then they hit brick wall. I loved seeing Marc work through things to finally realize that Kelly was definitely the right one. I also loved the character of Annie, who was a delight. This was a wonderful story. I would definitely recommend this book. I received a digital copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.
I had the honor to review this wonderful book for the author. Kelly thought she would never meet a wonderful guy like Marc. The way she meets him will have you smiling. Watching their relationship grow is amazing. The love Kelly shows the orphans is truly beautiful. You will feel God working throughout this whole book.
I received a copy of this from the author for an honest review. I loved the characters, especially the spunky little girl. I also loved that Christ and his forgiveness is shown. Susette has a way with words that draws you in. My only complaint is that it was to short. This is ideal for a quick , enjoyable read.
I really enjoyed reading this Inspiritional romance novella where love isn't tied up in a neat package. Kelly has had to learn to deal with her past before she came to God. Marc has to learn to deal with Kelly's past. Annie is just the little spunky girl to hep them. I recommend this novella and author, Susette Williams.
Another great story by Susette. The tension in the story revolves around having biological children. She can't and he wants them. Can he come to terms with it??? I loved the way the story line was handled. Great sensitivity and with lots of love. Highly recommend this story. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Very sweet book dealing with some tough subject matter, adoption and infertility. Hero and heroine had a tough road to romance and I was so glad to see them get their HEA :). Recommended! I received an ARC in the Love Blossoms anthology.
