The top three Military Romance Novels by Bestselling author Nikki Sex and real life Marine Zachary J. Kitchen.
Nine Line
A nine line is the standard radio format to evacuate casualties from the battlefield. It is a call for help.
When Nick Patterson signed up for the Navy reserves, he just wanted some money for medical school. He never imagined he’d someday find himself fighting for life and limb in the sands of Iraq. Frustrated by a military bureaucracy he cannot begin to understand and an increasingly pointless war, he doubts why he is there and what he is doing.
When the plucky and idealistic MEDIVAC pilot, Samantha Brown, crashes into his life, he sees another side to the war. As their friendship grows into something more serious, Nick is faced with a multitude of choices: should he stay in the military or go home to the relaxed atmosphere of private practice? Should he play it safe, or step off into the unknown with the daredevil pilot?
The Unbeliever
If faith can move mountains, what can the utter lack of faith achieve?
Major Max Bradley left his faith, along with a leg, in the sands of Iraq. Even the Marine Corps, the only thing that mattered to him, thanked him for his service and sent him on his way. Feeling abandoned, left adrift and without purpose, scotch and oxycontin became his only friends. He lives a hermit's life on a boat moored in a small coastal North Carolina town, struggling with addiction as well as the physical and emotional scars from a war that now seems pointless. He only just exists, caught between pain and despair, until one night his world and his perceived place in that world are turned upside down.
A call for help snaps him out of his drug laden fog and a chance midnight rescue brings him together with the woman who will pull him out of himself and will show him that he is more powerful than he has ever imagined.
Promises to Keep
As the only ER doctor this side of Fallujah, Iraq, Jack Curren is a very busy man.
When he’s unable to save the life of his wounded medic, the soldier's dying request is for Jack to personally deliver his wedding ring to Laura, his newlywed bride.
He vows to do so the moment he returns home.
Jack’s been through Hell on earth, while Laura’s a feisty, stubborn survivor of her own personal Hell. She's got a mind of her own, and she’s no victim—but what is she so afraid of?
Despite their growing attraction, there’s just one thing the young widow doesn’t know about her husband’s death:
Three short novels in one book. The first and third novels were good and in my opinion well done. Novel number two was not to be believed and I would not recommend it to anyone. It had a military connection of a tenuous nature only. Science fiction is more accurate.
I am conflicted about these books. They are well written, with a good pace, informative. The first book was the best, but the storyline of the second and third book was not convincing.
This was an odd combination of stories stuck together. Yes, they all involved military veterans, but that's the only commonality. I am giving the combined box set 4 stars, only because of the 1st and 3rd stories.
Nine Line (Book 1) rates 4 stars. Nick's story gave us a look into what life in the middle of a war zone can be like. It also showed a bit of what life back in 'the world' can be like for our vets. I enjoyed the story and how it ended. *SPOILER—there's a happy ending!
The Unbeliever (Book 2) rates 2.5 stars. This story was totally unexpected, because vampires are involved. I'm not into the vampire genre, but I forced myself to finish the story. I was excited to read about Max, an amputee vet, and to see how he might meet a woman who would look past his missing leg....but I didn't expect her to be a vampire. And then pirate maps are thrown into the mix. All in all, the story was a little too far-fetched for me.
Promises To Keep (Book 3) rates 4 stars. Jack and Laura are connected by Laura's husband, a Marine serving with Jack in Iraq. Circumstances bring them together through written letters and they meet in person once Jack's tour of duty is over. An ex-boyfriend of Laura's causes more trouble, bringing them closer together. *SPOILER---there's a happy ending!
Graphic war,PTSD and Love. Excellent read for spouses of vets.
As a Vietnam vet, this book describes war, feelings and, ptsd reactions very well. It brought good and bad memories to mind. The romance cushioned the angst and pain. Do not read if in active PTSD but good descriptive read of war, PTSD And romance.
This trilogy offers solid insights on the effects of ptsd. Each book gives solid insight into the unique opportunities for love. Tenderness is shown to be admirable even in the macho world of war. I thoroughly enjoyed all of these stories. They are worth the reader's time.
The first and third stories in this collection are better than the second. The second and third need attention from a proofreader to correct the missing words, incorrect punctuation, weird capitalization, and other typographical errors. Of them all, I liked the first story best with its generous, leavening of humor.
Three stories really make you think. But the last story will make you cry. Finding a good guy and losing him hurts. But finding out how he died is no better. Finding he loved you and was thinking of you. Makes the loss a little more bare able. I think he sent her the doc to take care of her because he knew he wasn't going to be able to.
Well written, fantastic theme books are honored our heroes on Military bases::
The woman in the Army Forces, the struggle to survive and maintain their identity in the macho men society of the Marines::: The situations after disabilities for injuries: drugs, alcohol, sadness in solitary lifestyle changes. The promise Jack did to Wynn . Highly recommended ::::::
I don't know whether the stories were good or not because the first thing I was hit with was the filthiest word in the English language so I did not read these books!! I think writers should have to warn you just like movies that their books are rated "R".
