ATTICUS THE ACCIDENTAL SPY IS A TEEN ACTION SPY THRILLER
Atticus Crayle isn’t your average teenage genius. He lives alone in the council house he officially shares with his mum and is extremely self-sufficient. He has built a chemistry lab in his attic and spends his weekends secretly testing homemade chemicals and explosives.
His only friend is Gemma, who blows up dirt with him every Saturday. She has secrets of her own. Her uncle Damon is a spy and she plans to be one too.
Atticus is on holiday with Gemma and Damon when he finds himself under attack by gunmen and caught up in a kidnapping plot involving spies, trained killers and organised crime.
Mixed up in a dangerous new world where he might just belong, Atticus has never had a Christmas holiday like it.
My new book is Seven: The Teenage Hitman, a YA action thriller. It's the third title in the Mondial series, following on from Atticus Crayle: The Accidental Spy and The Secret Identity of Annie Banks.
They're exciting, fast-paced reads - easy to get into and not very long either. The kind of books you'd expect from a fantasist with a short attention span and a low boredom threshold. Book four is on its way.
My own (fictional) story is of a struggling writer - working a normal job by day and writing by night. But I had a secret. I was being watched, followed by someone who never left any evidence of their presence. I never saw them, but I knew they were there. And there was nothing I could do about it. I moved. I changed jobs. It made no difference.
Everything changed when I discovered my stalker was connected to the worlds and characters I was writing about - and that they weren't as fictional or as imaginary as i'd thought. And they did not want me writing about them.
There was no going back. I kept writing and I kept running.
I am the Writer on the Run.
You can find my story serialised on my blog or wait until The Diary of the Writer on the Run: Part 1 is released. Not long now.
As my alter ego, Sarasin Shade, I've written Christmas fantasy adventure Henry Frey and the Elf King - also fast-paced and exciting. Christmas, swords, elves and snow!
I liked this. The most remarkable thing about this novel are the characters. A century ago, we had characters who did things just for the fun of it. Sherlock Holmes had no ambition to clear the streets of criminals, etc. He simply enjoyed the intellectual challenge. While there is nothing wrong with today’s complex heroes, it is always refreshing to read characters who go back to the original way. Att, his friend and the uncle mostly do what they do for the fun of it. In addition, the kids here remain kids. They might be smarter than your average adult, but they are certainly not fourteen year olds wiser than my grandfather. Seriously, he was one hell of a wise dude. And the way Att is so smart and naïve at the same time is kind of cute. The pacing was reasonably okay. I might have liked drastic pacing in a spy novel. The world building was awesome, and very believable. My only complaint would be that we never get the whole story on the enemy. We never find out what exactly he wants, and who exactly he is, as well as how our characters figure into that narrative. But this is a series, so these are questions I expect to have answered in the future. I liked the resolution. I can state without a doubt, I cannot wait to read more books in this series.
Atticus Crayle is the classic young adult hero. He has the brains but not the brawn, and he has mad skills despite his face being an open book. This first installment of the Mondial series introduces Atticus during his first spy mission, one of trial by fire. He's shot, attacked, and worse, attracted to a young female with similar interests to his. During his ordeal to rescue the kidnapped girl, and then the kidnapped rescuer, he never loses his head (except when encountering attractive members of the opposite gender) and he helps save the day. The plot is just enough to keep you on edge for the entire book, and the conclusion closes the story line while leaving open enough for the next book in the series to pick up without a hitch. This is an enjoyable novel for those interested in YA lit, and I recommend it highly.
Atticus isn't your typical teenager by far. Technically he shares a house with his mom (whenever she shows up) and has his chemistry lab in the attic, where he likes to make thing that go boom! After some trouble, Atticus finds himself going on winter holiday (with a girl he likes) Gemma and her Uncle, Damon, but it will be a holiday like none Atticus has ever had before.
This was a really good book by author Jason Rybak, and the first in the series. It has non-stop action, tons of suspense, and teenagers beating up on adults, what more could you ask for? Oh and if your from the U.S. you can have fun with all the British sayings and spellings. But I think you'll be so wrapped up in what Gemma and Atticus are doing you'll just love the book as much as I did. the good part is it is only 99 cents, the bad part is it is only available as a ebook so far.
I recommend this to anyone of any age who likes to just fly with their story - the pace is excellent and I found it impossible to put down - and I mean impossible. I needed to know how it ended. Setting up the story was done very swiftly and easily so that I rapidly accepted the world and the protagonists. It is a jolly good yarn - full of intrigue, humour and lots of explosions, guns and killing!
I love spy adventure books and very much enjoy the teen spy genre. Atticus Crayle: Accidental Spy is one of the most fun, suspense filled books that I've read in quite some time. I loved how Jason Rybak wrote the characters in such a believable way that made me feel like all the action seem so much more real for me. The takeaway is that when I finished the book I was wishing for a sequel Asap! Great job Mr.Rubik!
This was fun. I like Atticus and Gemma, and the adventure they experience together. It may not be the best written teen spy book, but it was interesting, and full of action. I think I'm going to end up buying the next book, which looks like it's about some characters introduced briefly in this story. I expect it'll be a fun read, as well.
