Sadly, as in all wars, dreams are rarely fulfilled, and following a failed aerial combat mission on the Eastern Front, he abandons his aircraft over enemy territory, is captured by the Russians and interned in a Siberian Gulag. Whilst facing the grim reality of daily life in the Gulag, the Nazis deport the girl of his dreams to the dreaded death camp at Auschwitz. The story builds to a dramatic climax following a miraculous escape from the Gulag, when he sets about trying to find what has happened to his sweetheart.'
