Destiny Scrolls: Path of the Warrior

Rate this book
Destiny Scrolls: Path of the Warrior is the first book in a series of five fantasy adventure novels. Magic permeates the realm of the novel, but the actual magic system is based on real world science. This fantasy fiction series unfolds for the reader at almost the same rate as the mysteries in the story unfold for the main character. The reader learns as the character does. If you are a fan of young adult fantasy, such as Eragon, then this book deserves a look.

Although some mild violence is contained in Destiny Scrolls: Path of the Warrior, the intensity is dialed back and tries to follow a more religious tone that will become more apparent with future installments of the series. It could indeed be classified as a religious fantasy because of the symbolism and metaphorical undertones that hint at Christian scripture. However, the series is still meant to appeal to a broad range of fantasy fiction readers and fit in with most other modern fantasy books. Any fan of fantasy adventure novels will find something to like about Destiny Scrolls.

Synopsis:

Thirty-three years ago, Murdock usurped the judges and took over as king of Arkeadion. Since then, anyone born with magical abilities has been in danger. The law requires all magic bearers to join the Arkeadion military or surrender their lives. The Teradon, a rebel faction, has been working against the king; they are losing. The only hope for a brighter future lies in a thousand year old prophecy and the Destiny Scrolls, mystical writings rumored to grant untold power.
Dregan doesn’t know about the prophecy or the scrolls. All this changes when he finds the dagger. Suddenly, he is an outlaw on the run, his home is burned down, and his parents are in prison. So what does he do when a stranger appears offering to help him break his parents out of prison? Accepts his help of course.
To find his destiny, Dregan must discover the truth about his birth, make sense of the Prophecy, and figure out his own, newly manifested, powers on the fly.
Things are changing quickly in Arkeadion; some changes are bigger than anyone realizes.

Very well written. Full of action and suspense. I really love Shadow! I have read books by Brandon Sanderson and this was very similar. It ended too soon. Looking forward to the next one.
