A dynamic and heartwarming love story between two individuals with seemingly little in a woman who is left alone after the deaths of her husband and children and a trilateral amputee on the other side of the globe.Claire Matthews’ entire world—the one she shared with her husband and three children—shattered into a million pieces on a dark, winter road the day after Christmas. The only survivor of a brutal car crash that claimed the life of her entire family, she struggles to find a reason to wake up each morning. On the other side of the Atlantic, Irishman Callum Fitzgerald’s actual birth was deemed a tragedy. Born a trilateral amputee, no one expected his life to amount to anything. Now in his thirties, Callum has defied the odds. Victorious over his own limitations, he’s built a life and a career around encouraging others to find a purpose for their pain. He assures the tens of thousands who flock from all around the world to hear his inspirational message that nothing occurs by happenstance—there’s always a greater plan. Claire and Callum. Two individuals with seemingly little in common. Separated by years, physical abilities, and half a world. Yet, their lives unexpectedly converge, thus beginning a love story so profound and enduring, it turns the darkest tragedies into spectacular triumphs.
It was OK - written from a literal Christian perspective that God (somewhere 'out there') has a plan for everyone's life, both individually and collectively. As I don't believe this (I believe 'God' is the spiritual entity, the 'spark of being' which gives and sustains ALL life - within and without - who leaves the trajectory of our lives totally in our proverbial hands [Free Will]), I found this premise detracted somewhat from the story. I read the whole book (although I almost gave up 2/3 the way through), only because I wanted to know the outcome of the love story between Claire and Callum. A surprise ending - wasn't expecting it. I'll leave it there.
I’ve been reading so many books lately, but I don’t remember the last one that made me feel so much after finishing “The Plan”. This is my second book by this author and, I will definitely recommend this book at the library (after the publication) and to my friends. Claire’s life is shattered, when entire family dies on a car crash, she is the only survivor…an unthinkable tragedy. I really couldn’t understand how this woman would keep living..but the thing is: she did it, and she felt in love again with a man that, spoke about his difficulties to a bunch of people, about how, you can find a purpose for life, by helping others, that everything happens for a reason.. I had my share of tragedies, nothing like Claire’s but,is devastating when you lose someone you love. I loved everything about this book!!The end was perfect, in a bittersweet way. Read this book!!
