Symbolically Speaking, Vol. 1: African Lodge #1: The Context

Rate this book
An Historical and Esotoric exploration of Prince Hall Freemasonry. Originally named "African Lodge," the 15 founders of African American Freemasonry may have left a clue to assist later generations on their quest for Masonic Light. This clue leads directly to African spirituality, Initiation, and the ancient wisdom traditions.

Dr. Jeff Menzise, a 32 degree and Royal Arch Mason, is an expert on African Spirituality and has himself been initiated into several African Spritual traditions. He is also a doctor of clinical psychology, and has used his experiences, expertise, and profound insight to create this masterpiece of Masonic scholarship.

This book is designed for both the seasoned Freemason as well as the non-member who has an interest in learning more about the Craft.

Interesting work but mediocre

I don't know about other opinions but for me, i was not moved mentally during reading of this work. After finishing my reading, I found that i was still wondering just what in the hell was Brother Menzise writing about? Was he taking the fact that the 1st Prince Hall Lodges were called African Lodges too literal? Was he attempting to recommend a connection of Prince Hall Masonry with African rites of passage because we were once known as African Lodges? Is he saying that Prince Hall Masonry is missing out on a real spiritual experience as long as it continues with just the European model of Craft Masonry? I had to be curious about this book. Now it's checked off my to read list. I recommend others to read it and encourage discussions to follow.
