Sigmar announces his return as his Stormcast Eternals strike a vengeful blow against the hordes of Chaos.
Across the Mortal Realms, a storm rages. Lord-Celestant Vandus Hammerhand has claimed one of the Gates of Azyr – he now makes for the dreaded Gate of Wrath in the fire-blackened Brimstone Peninsula of Aqshy, and a reckoning with the Chaos Lord Korghos Khul. His fellow Lord-Celestants fight just as hard to break the dominion of Chaos; the Stormhosts’ grand crusade brings war to the Ghyrtract Fen, where Gardus of the Hallowed Knights strives to take back the Gates of Dawn. Meanwhile, in the mystical Hanging Valleys of Anvrok, Thostos Bladestorm leads his men against a towering fortress which conceals a prize beyond measure.
This book continues the story of the Stormcast Eternals war to reclaim the land from the forces of chaos. It helps to read The Gates of Azyr first since the story picks up where that story left off. This book is broken up into three separate stories written by three separate authors with the last one being the best. The first story deals with the clash between Vandus Hammerhand and his arch nemesis Khorgus Khul. As it turns out Hammerhand arrives right as Khul is about to complete his life's work; building a massive pyramid of skulls so that he can achieve demon hood. All he needs is one last skull of a hero. How convenient that Vandus just happens to show up. In the second two stories the Stormcast are trying to claim the Ghyrtract Fen from the followers of Nurgle as well as find an elusive ally. This book is full of action and while players of War Hammer Age of Sigmar will be the most interested in it since it give their games background, I think that anyone who enjoys fantasy would enjoy these books.
I'm a big Warhammer fan, playing with the miniatures, reading through rulebooks for the background and rules to abuse, but I'm not really sure why I started with this book. I finished The Gates of Azyr and I was not very happy. The story left me out in the cold and didn't really engage me into the world. Strange, because I don't need much to go all out in a fantasy story.
This one continued with a slow pace, battle after battle. Some new foes are there, but in the end it all boils down to the same thing. Stormcasts are eternal. And they always will be. My heart hurts when I say I quitted the series here, but sometimes a man's gotta do, what a man's gotta do..
