Jenna Black is your typical writer. Which means she's an "experience junkie." She got her BA in physical anthropology and French from Duke University.

Once upon a time, she dreamed she would be the next Jane Goodall, camping in the bush making fabulous discoveries about primate behavior. Then, during her senior year at Duke, she did some actual research in the field and made this shocking discovery: primates spend something like 80% of their time doing such exciting things as sleeping and eating.

Concluding that this discovery was her life's work in the field of primatology, she then moved on to such varied pastimes as grooming dogs and writing technical documentation. She writes paranormal romance for Tor and urban fantasy for Bantam Dell.

I took a chance with this omnibus. It was cheaper to buy the omnibus even though I had read book 1 already, so I bought and it paid off.

Good series. My reviews of them can be found under each book

Nikki Glass is a PI, but her last case turns out to be a plot to let her acquire the powers of a god. Nikki is a Liberi, a god descendant, and she's super rare are her god is Artemis. Because of this and her set ion special kills both Liberi teams in her city want her. But in her quest to find out more about who she is and to protect the people she loves, Nikki needs to step up and accept her place among the Liberi.

I really liked the series in the first couple of books, but I didn't enjoy the second half as much. I felt like too much was left unanswered.

In short, I loved this book. The P.I chick on the back cover sounded a little like Dante Valentine, and since I really enjoyed those, I decided to pick this one up when I was in the book store. It isn’t often anymore that I buy a physical book, since I have limited space and only the books dearest to me get a spot on my shelves now. I have nearly 200 volumes just on the shelves in my bedroom, and half again as many on my Kobo. So when I saw this book (the size of it attracted me in all honesty, and while the Goodreads page for the only omnibus edition shows only 880 pages, my volume has 1064) I automatically looked at reviews on the Goodreads app and read the first two pages before I decided to buy it in a physical copy. Soon I am going to have to buy my books their own house.

I was a little concerned about insta-love in this book, since that is such a theme in supernatural type books, even the adult ones. This book (and I will refer to it as one book because that is how I read it) did not follow that very unfortunate trend. The romance in this book is more realistic, in my opinion. There are still a few eye-roll moments, I must admit, but in general I found it good. Our heroine knows that the fate of the entire world is more important than one person, and isn’t willing to risk it all on her own feelings. The romance is also not the centre of the book, which was nice. Though a little bit more of it wouldn’t have been bad either.

Characters were believable and had what I believe to be realistic reactions to events. There are some ‘uh’ and ‘umm’ thrown into the conversation, which I enjoyed because that is how real people talk. This writer doesn’t try to make her characters perfectly eloquent or fucking genius at the expense of reality. She gives them some stupid moments, lets them get taken down a peg by other characters, they aren’t always sure of themselves, and everyone has a distinct personality and depth. Jenna Black creates introverts and extroverts, emotional people and reserved, people of color, different sexualities, leaders who make mistakes, and her characters grow.

This book takes on the black and white themes we often see in life and in entertainment, and challenges them. First impressions can be right, or they can be wrong. Human beings, especially immortal ones, can not only change their ways, but can be more than they seem. There are grey areas in life. Sometimes you have to do black things for white reasons. Forgiveness is earned and so is trust. People learn, evolve, and grow their whole lives, and that doesn’t suddenly change when you suddenly can’t die anymore. Every experience, every person in your life will shape you and change you, and this change can be so subtle you don’t notice it, or it can be so huge that it shifts your entire world view in an instant.

All in all, I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good fantasy/supernatural series and good writing.

Good storyline, but way too much repeating throughout the entirety of the series. Had to put it down and skim over some of it at times. Holds your interest, but maybe not enough to read straight through as an omnibus as I forced myself to do-being it was a library book. Would have given it 3.5 if able to because of this, since it seriously doesn’t rate a full 4. Too much filler and fluff.
This one is 1064 pages, not the 880 pages I found listed. Not sure why.
Seemed more geared toward the teen/ya crowd, EXCEPT for the very few, VERY explicit intimate scenes. Truly unnecessary and out of place considering the way the rest of the book was written.
Good character and scene development from the beginning and felt it wrapped up nicely without danglers making you wonder.

I think my rating is more of a 3.5. I liked all of the books pretty well, but I don't think it's anything I'm going to reread..
Each of the books have strong points that I really enjoyed. And most of the time I wasn't sure if Nikki was going to end up with Jammal or Anderson.. there wasn't any kind of actual love triangle, but I thought Anderson gave off some vibes..
Nikki was adopted by the Glass family, at the age of 11 i think, after a few years in foster care.. her mom abandoned her in a church. We find out it was probably to keep her safe from the Olympians who were hunting her..
I do wish there were maybe one more book, where Nikki tracks down her mom and brother even if she didn't interact with them..
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I bought this book out of pure “just because” moment, and it totally paid off! I was enthralled from the start! It was so hard to stop reading the chapters, the next one couldn’t come fast enough! I’d recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed Percy Jackson, Remnant Chronicles or even JD Robb series....it’s so fun! A touch of romance but it’s not overly done!

I found this book for $1 at the Dollar Tree. What a fantastic find! I liked this so much I won't be sharing my copy with anyone else, as I will probably re-read it.

This was a very imaginable, well thought out series by Jenna Black. She did a great job with all of these novels. All were full of action, up and downs, well thought out characters and details of them, and so much more. This book is a five in one and is a very thick one. I am not usually a fan of "all in ones" due to the fact that it makes the actual book really heavy and awkward to hold and carry, and I do get tired of reading series some times which is why it will take me months to read a book like this. It isn't something I would go right out and by as a first book in the series and not ever reading them. However if you read one or two and are a huge fan, this is the book for you, if you don't mind the extra weight! Thank you for letting me read and review this book! Keep up the wonderful and exciting job!

I am enjoying the fact that all of the books in this series are combined in one large volume. The main character Nikki is strong, but vulnerable. It doesn't turn her into a "superhero", which makes her relatable. It's a fast moving adventure which pulls you in right from the beginning.
