Chopra is to be applauded for bringing together a diverse group of thinkers and scientists to tackle the topic of consciousness as the ground for the emergence of the universe. Unfortunately the arguments both for and against that notion are now getting worn. What the proponents of consciousness as the ground of all being tend to do is pick and choose the elements and findings of quantum physics that correlate with their views about the place of consciousness in the universe. The opponents likewise pick and choose the arguments of those physicists that militate against consciousness being anything other than an epiphenomenon of brain function. In this 31 chapter book there are also plenty of chapters that do some toe-dipping into either science or logic, but are not really serious chapters at all, and lengthy expositions of the authors' opinions that don't rise much above the level of thoughtful drivel. The most disappointing shortcomings were that: 1) there was no effort to unify these diverse chapters, or give a sort of consensus statement or even an overview; 2) None of the chapters developed detailed models of the relationship between consciousness and the world that could be described mathematically. With regard to the latter it is disappointing and puzzling that Chopra (I assume as editor) did not include a chapter from Donald D. Hoffman.

A collection of articles about quantum physics and consciousness, with some very interesting ideas, but also terrible mistakes like for example in the article:

“17. The Time Machine of Consciousness. Past Present Future Exist Simultaneously.

Entanglement, Tachyons, Relative Time, Circle of Time, Quantum Time, Dream Time, PreCognition, Retrocausation, Deja Vu, and Premonitions”

It states that: “The sun we observe is a sun from 8 seconds in the past.” It’s not. It’s actually 8 minutes in the past, as light from the sun takes roughly 8 minutes and 20 seconds to reach earth.

Very basic mistake proving some of the articles (or all of them) have been poorly reviewed or not reviewed at all.

I started reading this book on November 6th, 2021 and it took me around 1 year to finish it. And I think I did not have the required time to digest such a book. It's a mind-blowing adventure in the realm of quantum physics, philosophy, spirituality, religions, neuroscience, and much much more.
the mere benefit of this book is that if you had 1000 questions before reading it, you will end up with millions of questions in your head. it will make you starve for more knowledge and more wisdom.

Insightful and reality extending

The collection of articles provided insight into quantum phenomena providing a theoretical and experimental basis to which I previously thought impossible or simply unsupported assertions.

Very disappointing and full of scientific inaccuracies. Being a scientist, I find some of the flaws totally unacceptable. But the language is decent and the presentation is good. While I don't agree with many of the author's opinions, I have to applaud him for the effort he has put.

Loved the format of different papers from different perspectives in one book. Had to skim over some because the language and run on sentences made my eyes glass over at times. But overall very good.

read again

I learned a lot and will now look for more books on consciousness and re-read again in the future, thanks for your work.

Many of the articles in the book are not well written and most are difficult to follow or even determine what the authors are trying to say.

A Stimulating Read

What was done well: (1) An extensive coverage of the history of the different approaches to quantum mechanics and the attempts to integrate them into general relativity. (2) And in later chapters the coverage of recently published results in the application of an updated version of the wave function, which allows retro-causation, to explain the many verified and repeatable examples of retro-causation in human consciousness.
Not so well done: Typos and errors in usage and syntax. Microscopic equations.

If you've read The Emperor's New Mind or other Penrose books about consciousness and want to delve in deeper, this book is probably for you. The collection of essays from various authors delve into the possible connections between quantum physics and consciousness in more detail than the aforementioned books, with various viewpoints. Not for the novice, but great for someone already somewhat knowledgeable in the area.
