This was a short, sweet little Christian fiction book. I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.
Laura is a young girl in Boston, who has lost both of her parents to small pox just weeks apart. She focuses on sewing to earn money, and is in shock. She has not cried or grieved for her parents. She is quiet and clings to imagined conversations with her mother as they work.
Her father's best friend and his wife watch over Laura and decide her best option is to become a mail-order bride. The wife writes to several men with ads, before picking the best one for Laura. Laura beginning writing to Alfred in Idaho, and he sends her money to travel to him.
She is almost in a daze when she arrives and is married without remembering if she said "I do". His ranch is in a clearing near the mountains. The have neighbors who live nearby in the forest. Laura is eager to fit in, but is still quiet. Albert is worried that she is "touched", but a doctor friend says she is in shock, and it will take another shock to bring her out.
That shock comes in the near death of Alfred due to breathing burning poison ivy.
Thanksgiving Bride - A Gift For Alfred By Terri Grace Dec 12, 2022 Christian Historical Romance
This was a cute, but short book. Alfred's friend Joe seems a bit brash, but otherwise Alfred's friends and neighbors are wonderful. Laura's friends are pretty amazing as well. Although the Carters are more of her parents' friends, they help her decide to find a mail order husband and help her choose which man. I'm reading this book in the 36 book "Brides For All Seasons Mega Boxset Volumes 1-5". I thought it would be a lot easier to find just one title than all of them. This is book one, volume one.
Laura is living with her parents. Her father dies from smallpox and her mother follows a short time after. She gets a letter from a single man out west looking for a mail-order bride. They write back and forth and he sends her money for the train and stage coaches needed to get to him. Things go well enough that they get married. He is afraid she is too sad and troubled about losing her parents, but they work together on his ranch. But will they ever be really happy?
A thoroughly heartwarming story. I so enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it to others. Following the death of her parents from smallpox, Laura is left totally alone in New York City. She has scant income, not enough to continue her frugal life. She becomes a mail order ride and travels to sparsely settled Idaho to meet her groom. What follows is a relatable tale I'm sure you will enjoy.
This is a clean, sweet tale of loneliness of 2 people brought together and.good Christian neighbors providing support and kindness to each other. Love blossoms in this story and people appreciate the blessings God gives them. Sometimes we need to stop and recognize how blessed we are with God’s love. Material things really don’t matter as long as we have the Lord and his love.
A sweet romance that took a few weeks to develop. leaving New York and moving far away created culture shock for the mail order bride who had just lost both parents to small pox.
Death affect people in different ways. Just because you handle things different from others, does not mean it's wrong. You need to find a way to help that person face up to reality and get through this tough time.
Having just recently lost both her parents to smallpox Laura becomes a mail order bride. Alfred agrees to her and the two struggle to start a new life.
FROM SORROW TO JOY Once again, Terri Grace has spun a delightful mail-order bride story full of God’s grace and mercy. Laura Miller is left alone in the world when she loses both her parents within a month of each other. With the suggestion of her parent’s friends, they answer an ad seeking a mail order bride. Alfred lives in Lewiston, Idaho and seeks a wife, and with the help of the Canter’s, Laura and Alfred agree to marry and she travels west. Laura has never properly grieved for her parents and is very withdrawn. When a life and death situation strikes, how will Laura deal with it? Will she and Alfred find happiness in the wildness together? The plot is very emotional and the dialog strained until Laura opens up. The faith in God, turning to the Bible and seeking His will and way heartwarming.
A Gift for Alfred...When I started reading this story, I thought what a bummer to be Alfred. He requested a Mail Order Bride and in return he corresponded with Laura. The way the author developed Laura throughout the story shocked me. I thought at first that Laura was a bit touched...but keep reading...amazing how sweet someone can get when life shocks them into REAL life. I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review.
I have read other books in this series and I enjoyed. This another well written story though it lacked the vibrancy I found in the Christmas bride for Pete. I think this story was sadder as it occurred shortly after the bride's parents died...NO SPOILER as this was revealed in the first page of the book. It is a sweet romance and I liked albert a lot.
