About the author

J R Mai was born and raised in Stockton, California. An avid reader from a young age, she was consuming middle-grade mystery and suspense long before Harry Potter rode his first broom, and by the time she was in high school she was sure she wanted to be a writer. While her emphasis has always been writing, she has also studied drawing, painting, and art history, as well as music and drama. It gave her a broad understanding of emotional expression and composition that still influences her as a writer today.

She now lives in Florida with her husband and two young sons.
