The Broken Bonds #1-3

With Visions of Red

Rate this book
This is a dark erotic thriller series intended for adult audiences. Passion and lust ignite. Dark and light battle. This explosive first installment of the Broken Bonds series sets the exhilarating pace for a cat and mouse game where no one knows who's really pulling the strings.

Book One: Criminal profiler Sadie Bonds knows blood. Her affair with the gruesome, dark world of killers began long before she started applying her analytical skills to investigate gory crime scenes. She gets inside the killers' heads, breaks them down, relates to them on an arcane level. She prefers it this way--because it's safer to ally herself with the villain than the victim. At least, that's how she's coped ever since she was abducted and tortured as a teen.

She will never be a victim again.

Now, she's honed her skills in order to bring justice to these ritualistic offenders. Working alongside her colleagues, armed with sharp wit and a SIG, Sadie always catches her sadist. Until one ruthless serial killer gets inside Sadie's head, turning the tables. He knows her secrets. Her obsessions. The darkest, most deviant part of her soul.

When she meets Colton Reed, dangerous stakes are raised as he threatens to unravel her control and reveal her darkest fantasies. The sexy-as-sin bondage rigger at an exclusive BDSM club pushes her boundaries, forcing her to acknowledge that side of herself she fears. Plunged into a realm of torture and suffering, pain and pleasure, Sadie balances on the razor-sharp edge of two intersecting worlds threatening to swallow her.

Book Two: The UNSUB has made contact.

After a rapid string of grisly murders shakes the usually peaceful city of Arlington, Virginia, the sadistic killings of young women lull into a deceptive calm. Agent Sadie Bonds knows the terror isn’t over; serial killers don’t stop until caught.

And this sadist has targeted the profiler, revealing pieces of her dark past and weaving her secrets into each gruesome crime scene. Is the killer someone from Sadie’s past, her present? Or is he part of a fated future she brought on herself? The answer lies within the riddle of the copycat killings, ones mimicked after the infamous Blood Countess.

As tension brews in the department awaiting the UNSUB’s next move, Sadie’s more than on edge—her deviant cravings for the possible perpetrator have ratcheted out of control. She needs the feel of Colton’s ropes binding her, sheltering her from stark reality.

Only Colton Reed has his own twisted secrets that threaten to unravel not only Sadie as they come to light, but the UNSUB’s carefully constructed web now entangling both the profiler and her sexy bondage rigger.

Book Three: Who is the UNSUB?

For Agent Sadie Bonds, finding the answer to that question means the difference between life and death for someone close to her. The UNSUB’s latest abduction reaches right into the heart of the ACPD, forcing every member of the department to search within their ranks for the sadistic perpetrator.

Suspicion not only clouds the task force; it slithers into Sadie and Colton’s bond, challenging their love. Discovering the truth means facing their past together. Sadie’s connection to Colton has quieted her inner demons—but is she strong enough to confront the real monster?

All players take their places as the stage is set for the final scene.

With Visions of Red by Trisha Wolfe is a dark crime romance that definitely gives a Criminal Minds kind of vibe. I understand this is Wolfe's first dive into dark romance, and I picked it up specifically to get a glimpse of her earlier storytelling. I have read and loved her Hollow's Row series and wanted to see where the madness might have started.

Potential triggers: serial murder, crime scenes, mentions of abduction, captivity and rape, PTSD symptoms, explicit scenes including BDSM, voyeurism and Shibari.

“Sometimes the lure to become the thing we fear—just to alleviate that fear—is too great a temptation.”

I decided to review the series as a whole (books 1-3) rather than individual reviews, as each book is quite short and they are interconnected with cliffhangers in between.

Wolfe's writing here is less complex than her more recent work, but it still shows her potential and has a flare that is so uniquely Trisha. Throughout all three books, I could so clearly see little seeds of what I can only assume bloomed into Kallum and Halen from Hollow's Row; the themes of grief as an abyss, the making of monsters through trauma, and the healing power of vulnerability and connection.

“There’s nothing wrong with you, goddess. Just the absolute tragedy that I didn’t make you mine first.”

That's not to say this story doesn't stand on it's own because it absolutely does! Sadie and Colton have a unique connection and their intense romance was my favourite part. Colton is a healer and a worshipper, and some of his reverent lines made me melt. Sadie is complex, headstrong and resilient, and I was immediately intrigued by her backstory. I wish we got to see more of her darker side on page. The poetic intensity I've come to love from Wolfe is definitely present here and this couple left a lasting impression on me.

I loved the structure of this story, having the perspectives of our two main love interests as well as the unsub. The mystery and suspense kept me on my toes as I had no idea who the culprit was until it was revealed. The plot is well-crafted with no loose ends and a strong, memorable conclusion!

I would recommend this to readers that like dark romance with male protagonists that worship their woman, BDSM representation, serial killer investigations, and headstrong female protagonists. I think it would make a great introduction to dark romance.

Wolfe is one of a kind and I am loving my journey through her backlist!

Excuse me while I pass out from the intensity of this series.

I didn’t know what to expect from Trisha Wolfe after reading the Born, Darkly Duet. I also didn’t think her books could get much more intense than those two, but I was wrong.

Somehow With Visions of Red surpassed Born Darkly in intensity despite the fact that Born Darkly is … essentially … a serial killer romance. (New trope? Gimme, gimme.)

I discovered a few things about myself after reading these Trisha Wolfe, the most disturbing is how much I love seriously screwed up relationships involving seriously screwed up people. Also… I am not at all turned off by grisly details.

With that being said, Colton’s obsession with Sadie is the kind of alluring that is only possible in books.

In fiction, when Colton says things like, “I want to touch you…everywhere. Taste you all over. Devour you and consume you. And trust that this is merely a weak form of expression compared to what I’m feeling.” I find myself swooning and dying just enough to make me love it, but I am fully aware that if, in the real world, someone actually spoke to me like that, I’d quickly change my name and go into witness protection.

I’ve talked frequently about buy-in when it comes to couples in books. In order for me to enjoy a romance novel, I have to fully believe the chemistry between to characters.

Colton and Sadie have so much insane (literally and figuratively) chemistry, I am so all in with these two.

And, good Lord, the writing is so gorgeous I seriously can’t take it.

If you adore Sierra Simone’s sensuous writing style, you need Trisha Wolfe in your life. But like with Sierra Simone, you definitely need to have some thick skin and a willingness to walk on the kinky dark side to live in TW’s worlds.

As far as the storyline, I didn’t think I was into thrillers or mysteries, but goddammit I could not put these books down and it wasn’t just because of the gorgeously dark romance… it was because I needed to know what was going to happen.

I’m so in awe of TW’s ability to slip inside seriously disturbed characters and bring them to life…and my ability to love every second of it despite how horrific and unsettling it may be to see things from their eyes.

These characters felt so real, despite the fantastical circumstances.

Also… in the two series that I’ve read from TW, I’m totally into the twisted version of female empowerment she portrays.

All in all… I decided to combine my review for all three books because my feelings were strong across the board.

I loved them all.

I loved how they ended and flowed into one another. I loved that it was a trilogy that also felt like one solid book. I loved it all.

Again, this series, like most dark, erotic romances, is not for everyone. But it most certainly was for me.

Audiobook
The audiobooks for this series were released recently this month and I was so excited to re-read these books by listening to them on audio. I nearly passed the eff out when I heard Christian Fox narrate for Colton. I legit had to pause it after one sentence and gather myself before moving on. You NEED to hear this on audio.

The first book was great. The second book was spectacular. The third was absolutely awesome!

For me, this series was a 12+ star read. As I said in my previous review of book 1. Trisha Wolfe is a badass. I've added her backlist to my TBR.

Yeah no. The romance if you can even call it that was beyond cringe. Sadie and Colton didn’t love each other it was straight lust and drove me insane. I usually love romance in books, but I was skimming over scenes that involved those two. The plot was good in the first two books, but then in the third book everything fell apart. This series was over 500 pages long and the author decided in the last 100 pages to keep throwing information that did not fit in. Lastly, the unsub reveal literally made zero sense and was all over the place. I really wanted to love this but it just didn’t do it for me. I’ll give it two stars just because the series didn’t start off too bad.

If you haven't read this series you need to...NOW! It has everything, romance, suspense and Colton Reed ! I had this on my wish list to read and was thrilled when they bundled it and sold it together.

This story was so good I read all three books in two days. I was drawn in right from the start, it was full of surprises and kept me guessing constantly about who the UNSUB could be...I never could have guessed and was very happy the way everything turned out. This was my first read by Trisha Wolfe...now I'm a fan...I'll be looking for more.

Broken Bonds -- With Visions of Red Box Set
Trisha Wolfe
4.5 stars

Sadie Bonds was tortured for days at the age of sixteen. Pain, blood and the minds of monsters consumes Sadie now. She needs to get inside the heads of psychopaths and find out what makes them tick. Sadie is dark, twisted and desperately tries to free her mind but it seems she is always going to be bound to the dark within her; her past. Colton Reed is ready to rid Sadie of her demons. He can help her forget if she will allow him in.

In the first book, Sadie is on the hunt for a serial killer who tortures and then kills young females. The crime scenes open the nightmares back up. Being held captive leaves her soul black and drives her directly into Colton’s web. The psycho that Sadie is chasing wont quit and neither will Sadie. Working with SIG, Sadie always catches her prey -- Until one ruthless serial killer gets inside Sadie’s head. The freak has turned the tables. Whomever he is knows her secrets, knows her obsessions and knows how black her heart and soul is.

In Book 2, Sadie is working harder than ever to discover who the UNSUB is. Even more murders are occurring and Sadie is no closer to finding the sicko responsible than she was after the first murder. Sadie is on edge and the only person that can bring her back from the dark is Colton. Something isn’t right with Colton though. Sadie knows it. She reads people, gets in their heads and finds out how they tick. Colton’s tick is off. But why and what is he hiding and why does she keep going back for more. – Sadie will never be a victim again …. Or will she? You would think once was enough.

Every time you get an answer there are even bigger questions being laid at your feet. I don’t even know how you get to this point when you write. There is some sick stuff going on throughout these pages and its not over yet. My mind is a wreck. Whatever Colton is hiding is big and Sadie hasn’t told Colton about her past. Fear drives both of these characters and ends up taking a seat right next to you wrapping you all up in its goodness. YIKES!

The UNSUB --- that’s one twisted sadistic freak. Still in book 2 this could be anyone. There is no guessing. I mean you could guess but I doubt its that evident. Book 3 should have our answers .. at least I hope!

In Book 3 the UNSUB has made contact and he has laid the playing field. Everyone is under Sadies eye and nothing points to one particular person. This is one bad ass ending. It’s a complete mind frick. I will say it again .. whatever you think .. yeah .. keep moving because its just .. no. WHAT?!?!?! -- The monster … uh huh … I know Im probably not making any sense but I cant say what I want because I don’t do spoilers. Just read it … Im tongue tied. Really. The end .. there is something so ridiculous (in a good just gross oh my gawd way) that your mouth will be hanging open. Just find a passerby to push it back closed for you. LOL! OMG!

If you have a queasy side to you this is NOT your book. If you are a freak then click it up now. It’s the entire story in one big box. Thankfully this is the ARC I received because I would have been throwing the Kindle if I would not have had them back to back. How in the hell Trisha came up with this story is a mind bender. I don’t even want to know but dang! I love reading new authors and this one is a keeper.

Thank you for the ARC Trisha! Review to post on Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.

Review of the complete series; 3 books and the epilogue, Forever Bound

Sadie Bonds, is a profiler for the Arlington, VA police department. She is all kinds of messed up due to being kidnapped, raped, and tortured by a serial killer when she was 16. Colton Reed is a rope bondage (shibari) expert who works in his brothers fetish club, The Lair. Sadie visits The Lair to vicariously experience the euphoria and release that the subs of the bondage rigger experience. The Lair is where Sadie and Colton meet.

There is a serial killer on the loose and Sadie is on the case. A secret that Colton Reed and his brother share endangers them all and puts them in the crosshairs of the killer.

I really enjoyed reading this story. I highly recommend it. It’s smart, sexy, visceral, and very well written. I bought it because I like books with a BDSM theme. If you are expecting something like Fifty Shades of Grey you will be sorely disappointed. Kink is not the main theme of this story but is the common interest that Colton and Sadie share. It has some really erotic scenes but this is truly an on-the-edge-of-your-seat murder mystery. The story concentrates on how profilers solve crimes by thinking like a serial killer, putting themselves into the mind-set of those killers and almost having their own minds rewired to be like a killer.

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. When you gaze long enough into the abyss, the abyss gazes back into you. ~Friedrich Nietzsche

Erotically Dark!! This was my first book by Trisha Wolfe and I must say I'm fully impressed! This book was dark and twisted but you couldn't help but buckle up for the ride. It keeps your suspicion and mind guessing from the first page! Bravo to some of the best plot twists I have read!! This was as well my first erotic thriller romance and most definitely won't be my last! Trisha Wolfe's creation of saddie was nothing short of perfect. Her characters are well developed and strong female leads always win a A+ in book! I was completely addicted to this book from twisted start to twisted end! Definitely a must that won't leave you disappointed!

I have given ratings for each book separately (3, 4.5 & 5), but if you can, just read this boxed trilogy and pretend it's one book - because it should have been. It starts out with investigations of a serial killer and the main characters are Sadie (former serial killer victim/profiler/detective), Colton (club owner/shibari expert) and Quinn (detective). The murders escalate and there are red herrings, many different scenarios and some steamy BDSM sex mixed with shibari rope tying scenes.

Who is the UNSUB? Who are our detectives - really... There are cringe worthy blood filled murder scenes and some intense detective work. The story escalates with each part of the trilogy and ends with a bang and unexpected twists. Note that there could be triggers for some readers and this is a dark crime/romance. There is another trilogy following this one that focuses on Quinn and Avery (medical examiner).

So overall 4.5 stars, as I was a bit confused at the beginning, but I really enjoyed the whole reading experience. (Note that I THOUGHT I figured out who the serial killer was. But I was lead astray...) I was glued to each page and read these books in one go, so an excellent read.

Great 'sequel's to Born Darkly, Madly.

I am loving this author. She is definitely my new favorite.

This book has it all. Whatever you may desire out of a 'psychological' thriller, it is in this book.

.I read to escape the real world so to speak. I look for entertainment. This one has volumes of it.

Did I mention this book has it all??

Full 5 stars, 2 thumbs up, whatever your rating scale may be, this one gets the total.

As you can guess from my review, on to her next one...With Ties That Bind

This was my first time reading anything by Trisha Wolfe and to sum up this series in one word...AMAZING! I am picky when it comes to romantic suspense. I've read a few and most leave me feeling, Meh....this one blew me away. I felt like I was reading the script for an episode of Criminal Minds (love that show!). The story line kept me on the edge of my seat with all of the twists and turns. Trying to figure out who the UNSUB was throughout the series was driving me crazy. Just when I thought I figured it out...BAM....she threw in another twist. There was a romance in the book, but for me, the suspense and criminal investigation part won out.

I am definitely going to be moving on to the second series that is connected to this one and checking out her other works.

I read the books in this series separately and had to experience the torture of the wait in between each release!! Worst torture of my life! Now readers are lucky enough to enjoy the entire series without the wait. This edge of your seat, sexy thriller is a must read for anyone who likes their reads dark and intense! Here are some excerpts from my reviews on each book.

Book One: 5 beautiful, dark and intense Stars!!! I was expecting dark. I was expecting intense. I was expecting evil. What I wasn't expecting was beauty!!! Trisha's words inject beauty and light into an utterly dark world!!! I found myself constantly re-reading passages in order to savor the beauty of her words.

Book Two: 5 Get in, sit down and hold on, Stars!!! You are in for one hell of a ride! A tense, twisted and sexy ride! Trisha Wolfe ratchets up the tension one little click at a time. I can still hear the Ch-ch...Ch-Ch!!!

Book Three: 5 Delisously Dark and Deviant Stars!!! Prepare to be immersed into a world steeping with secrets, suspicion and pain! A world where the answers you seek will not be found in the light. If you want them, you need to be willing enter the darkness. A world so completely twisted that only the true master will survive!

"Truth is the most brutal punishment. It forces us to learn who we are."

This complete serial features Sadie Bonds, a behavioral analyst for the State of Virginia, introduced in the Darkly, Madly duet. Kidnapped, held prisoner, and tortured as a teenager, she now works to find the hunters before they capture their prey. To fight off her own demons, she goes to the Voyeur Room at The Lair, where she meets Colton Reed, a Shibari roper who offers to help her. But someone has been watching Sadie while she watches others, someone from her dark past. And as a new serial killer comes to light, Sadie and Colton find themselves trying to identify a killer who has set his sights on Sadie, his woman in red.

This boxed set is the best way to approach the Visions of Red serial, which doesn't end until book three. I found the books to be almost as captivating as the Darkly, Madly duet, which was my introduction to Trisha Wolfe. I'm looking forward to more, beginning with the first book in the second half of the Broken Bonds series, With Ties That Bind, featuring Avery, the medical examiner from this boxed set.

What should I start with?
I loved this series.
It's definitely a psychological thriller serial killer hunt .
I Highlighted so many quotes (showed the series my love back. )
Something was off though. Don't ask me what. Just something. A feeling . That maybe I needed more and the series fell short. Book 2 was my favorite.
The tension, the suspense,l the anticipation was absolute perfection.
I loved the writing style. descriptive but not when it comes to the gory details. My senses picked up along the heroine and that's what I love the most. The anticipation. Confusion and then the clearness. . A somehow bad-a$$ FMC the MMC was an absolute afterthought.
(sorry there Colt) but the romantic aspect was weak. Without it the book would have been much more intriguing. Because when you throw love and spice we, reader , expect more. The spice here was blurry and generic and totally off-paced I literally expected it to be more kinky 😌 I just couldn't relate nor pick on the tension. Like I said it was generic and not well articulated .
Don't take my criticism as a con . The serial killer hunt was so well done I didn't mind somethings were missing.

Book #1
FOUR Stars
This was a spunky quick read that was not only erotic but thrilling. It was action packed with detectives, profilers and medical examiners! Did I mention bondage oh and a serial killer? I'm not sure it gets any more exciting? This is a quick read that keeps you guessing until the very end.

Book #2
FOUR Stars
This page turner picks up right where With Visions of Red (Broken Bonds #1) leaves off. The Lair, the UNSUB and the murders keep you guessing who is the serial killer and every time you think you've figured it out...you learn you're WRONG! This book is exciting and sexy!

Book #3
FOUR Stars!
This is by far the best book of the series and it answers so many questions and has you gasping "NO WAY!" Trisha Wolfe really did an excellent job of concluding this story and still I wanted more.

An erotic thriller with clever twists and turns. I love how Trisha incorporated rope play into this investigation. This was a well thought out story. The research that went into the sex fantasy play scenes were appreciated.
This was the first series I read by Trisha, but not my last. She has a writing style that I get absorbed in.

Trisha has quickly became an auto-buy author for me. I’ve slowly been making my way through all of her books. I keep going in with high expectations with a tiny bit of worry that it won’t live up to the last but it always exceeds any expectation I had.

• Shibari
• BDSM Club
• Morally Gray FMC
• Serial Killer
• Mystery
• Criminal Profiler

This book is like Criminal Minds meets The Salacious Players Club Series. I was accusing EVERYONE of being the killer, I trusted absolutely no one which isn’t uncommon in Trisha’s books.

I love a good obsessive MMC and Colton was exactly that. And the smut 🥵 this is probably the smuttiest Trisha book I’ve read. Usually her books tend to be heavy plot and low spice (not complaining, I always enjoy them) but this one was heavy plot and heavy spice. This has probably the most realistic änäl scene I’ve ever read and I loved the shibari. I really enjoyed how Colton helped heal Sadie 🥹

Sadie is a cutthroat bad ä$$, the way she handled things 🤭 One if my favorite FMCs ever

I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the voice actors especially the female voice actor.

If you’re looking for a dark mystery with heavy plot and delicious spice definitely check this out! The audiobook is on hoopla and the ebook is free on KU.

Wow! What! OMG!

I thought I had the UNSUB but I didn't, not completely that is...this was non-stop stop and I found myself saying OMG a lot! The relationships between Sadie and her boss was great! She also had a very different kind if relationship with Avery and that kept evolving because of their experiences... Now Colton and her well hot and steamy.. YES! Also they are definitely meant for each other... Not in the same way as other couples, example in London and Grayson or Blakely and Alex but it is an amazing bond! He really is the one and only person that helps her become who she is and not who she was...there's a connection between Sadie and London I never got til the end! It was staring me in the face all the time! This is the first three books and the next three are connected I'm sure but not focused in Sadie and Colton...which is why I'm devouring them next! Trisha's writing is amazing and how she shows us this dark part of human behavior and the fact that she actually knows exactly how in real life these types of killers and killings are investigated and how profilers fit in to the cases is amazing! She allows us to experience the inner working of each and every character in her books and that astounds me!!! I'm sure if u made it this far you know what I'm experiencing! I love Trisha's books and she's really my favorite Author! Thank you Trisha for all the hard work you put into your books! Btw! I need a Colton😋😈💥

❝ The only place I want to be is with Sadie. Whether as her lover, her devoted worshiper, or as her prisoner. ❞

I had a huge craving for a dark psychological thriller romance and this book really hit the spot! The story was dark and emotional, it pulled me in and kept me fully engaged. I was literally devouring pages to get to the end. Each twist and reveal left me surprised and constantly reevaluating the list of suspects, I didn't know who to trust. It was such a fantastic read.

My heart broke for Sadie. I love her so much. Her backstory is a very emotional one, but her strength in taking back her power was amazing. Colton was different than the other MMCs I've read from Trisha Wolfe so far, but I absolutely adored him.

Together Sadie and Colton have a beautiful and absolutely scorching connection. I loved how their personal struggles, traumas, and secrets all related into their relationship and played into the bdsm themes. The emotional connection and trust they had was the light amongst all the darkness surrounding them. It was beautifully done.

Super excited to continue on to the next couple in the series. I enjoyed them both individually as side characters and I can't wait to see how they will come together after the events that took place.

This book contains very dark, emotional, traumatic, and mature themes. Read with care. ❤️

Sadie and Colton were terrific. No amount of compliments or praises would ever be enough to describe the breathtaking duo and their explosive chemistry.
Sadie is the epitome of intelligence, wit, courage, strength, grit, determination, resilience packed in a badass and kick-ass body. I loved her iciness , her prickly thorny exterior and her vulnerable, wary by strong interior. Her darkness was a nice surprise and only made me love and respect the woman more.
You couldn't help fall in love with the amazing Colton. His persistent nature to know and heal Sadie, his protective nature and his overall brave persona won me right from the start.

I won't lie, the plot was kinda predictable... Not completely ,but it didn't reduce or lessen the awesomeness of this series.
The sex scenes were scorching 🥵🥵, and honestly I had to indulge in guilty pleasures along with these two .

Overall an amazing read.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I've read all three books back to back so I'm fuzzy on where one ends and where the other starts. My rating will be the same for all three of them.

I loved the storyline, the following of the case, the characters and their development.
There were a few things that didn't make sense to me but it turns out got my answers at the end of the third book.

I definitely enjoyed it, I am rating it 4 stars instead of one because of the sex without condom. While it is not explicitly said, it is strongly implied. Unsafe sex holds no sex appeal to me. And alsy there were quite a bit of mistakes. As English is not my mother tongue, sometimes I had to stop and search for what would make sense because words were missing or added where they wereen't needed.

I strongly recommend this story for people who are not afraid to be scared, of visiting their dark side and opening their minds.

Addictive dark psychological thriller/steamy romance

This box set holds a gem of a highly addictive, action packed story of lust, obsession, violence, instinct, secrets and betrayals. The story follows Sadie Bonds, a behavioural analyst working with the police trying to solve murders of woman. There are many moving parts and plenty characters in this plot. Some are shady and suspicious, some dark and secretive, and keep you guessing on who the unsub is until the very end. There is a romance, a very slow burn, but the way the author sprinkles those extraordinary steamy encounters and writes the chemistry between the couple makes it satisfying and worthwhile. Loved it.
