Make your Christmas even merrier with this two book holiday cozy mystery bundle featuring Deanna Devlin!
Newspaper reporter Deanna Devlin finally gets a promotion from writing puff pieces to covering more serious stories. Unfortunately, her next assignment hits a little too close to home when one of her friends is accused of murdering a local book store owner. Deanna knows her friend couldn't have committed the crime, but the only way to prove it to the police is to find the real killer herself. There are no shortage of suspects in the case, including a tarot-card loving mistress, a jaded wife, a sleazy land developer, and a sassy mother-in-law. With the clock ticking, Deanna scrambles to uncover the truth before it's too late.
...for an afternoon of porch-sittin. The characters are so much fun to know! I enjoyed the relationship between grandma and granddaughter. I plan to read more in this series!
I received this as a free read from the author. I liked the packaging. There are two books in this bundle. Prescription to Die For and A Novel To Die For. I had read Prescription To Die For previously. So, I am going to cheat find my previous review and put it here. It saves time people! So shoot me:
Prescription To Die For Read on September 27, 2015, The story is set in a small community called Desert Palm. By small I mean it is more of a vacation type town than anything in my opinion. Deanna, is reporter who is tired of writing "fluff" pieces for the newspaper she works for. She tries to get her editor to give her something to sink her teeth into. He says no of course. So, she lets it go and heads to her friend's engagement party. Things seem off from the time she arrives. The groom to be is not himself. His father makes things worse. Causes a problem in general. Turns out, the in-laws don't like each other.
After the father causes problems for his son and soon to be daughter in-law, he causes problem for the other side of the soon to be family. Things come to a head when he is escorted out of the party. Next thing, a murder occurs. A murder that Deanna has the inside scoop on. This is just what Deanna wanted. Something to sink her teeth into. But at what cost?
The story was well written. The only violence is the murder. That's it. It is a great book to sit down with and curl up in your favorite spot to just relax and read. It wasn't too long. The length was perfect. Perfect book to read in a couple of hours. I give it 5 STARS!!!!
A Novel To Die For
Well, Deanna Devlin has been a busy little bee. Or, should I say a busy little reporter. After she solved the murder of Zach Ziegler in Prescription To Die For, her boss has made her wish come true. She no longer does "puff" pieces. She now does hardcore reporting. She has been covering things liked political corruption, drug busts, and child abandonment. She never thought that things like that could be happening in her little small community of Desert Palm. But, it has. Things have also changed for Deanna in her personal life as well. Remember the detective in the previous book Tyler? Well, the two of them have gotten mighty friendly.. And that is a good thing.
The only way Deanna can unwind is to curl up with a nice cozy mystery to allow her mind to relax. And that is what she is doing when she gets a call from her friend Amelia. Amelia works at the bookstore Chapters Galore. And, they just received the latest book of the Wendy Whimsy novel. Deanna is so overjoyed. She heads right down there. She has no idea what she is about to walk into.
Deanna walks into the store so she can get her copy of Wendy Whimsy's latest novel, and there is a reading going on. Deanna heads over to Amelia, so she can help her. And notices the author who is doing the reading is Hailey Henderson. She's not very good and has chased all the customer's away. Not only with the reading, but by her looks. She's covered in tattoos, neon blue hair, and dresses like she should be in punk band. She happens to be dating Wyatt the son of the bookstore owner. Who happens to be as far out there as she is, with his nose ring, mohawk, and goatee. The Wyatt use to be mathlete. But, that changed when he met Hailey.
Kenneth Gibson the owner of the bookstore comes in, and that's when things come to a head. Kenneth gets into an argument with Wyatt his son, Hailey, Trudy his mother-in-law, Victor Wright a land developer, Charlotte Gibson, his wife, Fiona O'Dell his mistress and last but not least Amelia, Deanna's friend. things go from bad to worst because Amelia gets fired from her job. Deanna can't believe it. The owner says it's because he can't cover her due to the store not doing well. Deanna didn't even get her copy of of Wendy Whimsy. Deanna tries to cheer her up with ice cream. Amelia takes her to go. Next day, she can't reach Amelia. She goes over to her house. You guessed it! Tyler is there questioning her about Kenneth Gibson's murder!! Deanna has no choice but to investigate herself!!
Sit back and enjoy the read. It is short and fun all at the same time. The only violence was the murder. That's why I said it had some violence. That is why I like it. It's right to the point. Sorry if my review was too long. But, I like to try and give as much detail as possible. Have fun with the books!!
This book was quick, fun read. Deanna is a writer for the local small town newspaper and wants something more exciting to write about. She finds just that by helping her friends who are the main suspects in two murder cases. Enjoyable even though it wasn't my usual reading genre.
I received this book for free in exchange for a review. There were two stories featuring reporter turned sleuth, Deanna Devlin. No spoilers here. Both enjoyable stories, even if you wouldn't want to be her friend (friends have a way of becoming suspects in murder investigations).
I little surprised that this bundle was not at all Christmas themed - which was why I chose to read it in Dec. The books were ok and I read through them quite quickly. Good value for the price, which was low on Book Bub.
