What has happened to men in America? Once upon a time, men in their twenties looked forward to settling down and having children. Today, most young men seem infected by a widespread Peter Pan syndrome. Unwilling to give up the freedom to sleep late, play video games, dress like a slob, and play the field, today’s men wallow in an extended adolescence, ostensibly unaware that they’re setting themselves up for a depressing, lonely existence. In this hilarious ode to male adulthood, Jim Geraghty and Cam Edwards—two happily married, 40-year-old men—have a simple message for their younger Grow up!
Jim Geraghty is National Review's senior political correspondent. In 2019, he made presentations about foreign disinformation campaigns on social media and tools to counter propaganda to the Austrian National Defense Academy, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the University of Vienna, and the U.S. Embassy to Austria.
Jim was named CPAC's "Journalist of the Year" in 2015 and also won the Young Conservatives Coalition's William F. Buckley award that year. He writes the "Morning Jolt" newsletter and contributes to NRO's Corner blog. He's the author of Heavy Lifting with Cam Edwards, the novel The Weed Agency (a Washington Post bestseller) and Voting to Kill.
He appears regularly on CNN, CNN International and Fox News' MediaBuzz as well as other cable news programs, and co-hosts a pop culture podcast with Mickey White.
Jim spent two years in Ankara, Turkey working as a foreign correspondent and studying anti-Americanism, democratization, Islam, Middle East politics, and U.S. diplomacy efforts, appearing in The Philadelphia Inquirer, The New York Sun, The Washington Times and The Washington Examiner. He covered violent protests over the Muhammad cartoons, avian flu outbreaks, and Pope Benedict XVI's visit to Ankara. He also covered national elections in Great Britain and Germany, and has reported from Egypt, Italy, Israel, Spain, and Jordan over the years.
In 2008, Best Life magazine called Jim one of "the 10 most important voices to listen to this election cycle." His "Kerry Spot" blog was awarded for having the "Best Political Dirt" by WashingtonPost.com in 2004, and the London Times praised his "killer insight" in that election cycle.
He lives in the spider-infested neighborhood nicknamed "Authenticity Woods" in Fairfax County, Virginia.
This is the biggest baby boomer wet dream I've read since I read that Jim Collins book boomers always say is good but blew. Horrible, outdated advice and it came out in 2015.
The advice on dating is some of the worst crap I've ever read. If you listen to this book on dating and end up getting married to the woman you use these strategies on you will 100% get divorced and lose half your shit.
With other such groundbreaking advice like "get a job", "stop playing video games" and "move out of your parents house" you have to wonder how fucked up the people's lives who read and enjoyed this are.
Unsurprisingly, when I looked up what this guy looks like he is the embodiment of pure soy. He clearly doesn't hit the weights and his face looks like it's melting due to his gluttony. Don't take advice from people like this, it only leads to misery.
Loved, loved, loved reading this book! I'll have a more thorough review up at Conservative Book Club. Until then, I can't recommend this book enough. Get a copy for any and every young man in your life.
I loved this book! It takes men, though women will enjoy the book, thru getting married, having a responsible job and having kids. In other words being an adult. The book is written with a lot of humor but still gets the points across. Some of the topics are totally realistic.
