Amy Maxwell #3

Amy Maxwell's 6th Sense

Rate this book
Amy Maxwell just knew something would go wrong if the whole family went on vacation—she had a sixth sense about it. A week of fun in the sun at an all-inclusive resort on the beach should be a much deserved relaxing time for the whole family, right? Not for Amy. As any mother can attest to, prepping for vacation is akin to Chinese Water Torture. There’s a dead fish in her toddler’s suitcase, her teen doesn’t want to go somewhere without Internet access, and her preteen has completely outgrown her bathing suit. She’s wishing for a vacation from her vacation before the wheels of the plane even touch down on the runway.
Amy finds herself dreaming of a solo vacation after things don’t get much better when they arrive at their destination. The hotel room doesn’t look like the one in the brochure, the kids are more interested in the WiFi password than the gorgeous sandy beaches, and there are some shady characters staying in the hotel. What’s more, Roger is acting suspicious. Amy finds out that he’s been meeting up with a perky young blonde who just happens to be a former student. On top of that, she discovers her old pal, DEA agent Jason, just happens to be at the same hotel, sending her overactive imagination into overdrive. Something doesn’t add up for Amy. Unable to stop herself from snooping, our favorite scatterbrained, busybody mom of four finds herself stumbling upon another mystery. And this one proves to be a little too close to home...even in the Caribbean.

Heather Balog is a self proclaimed "Bad Mommy" and the author of fourteen novels, including the Amy Maxwell Cozy Mystery Series. She also collaborates with her "Tween-age" daughter on the Lexie Maxwell Series for young readers. She blogs at "The Bad Mommy Diaries" which, according to her family, is mostly obnoxious exaggeration, but it's much cheaper than therapy. When Heather is not writing or complaining on her blog, she's a school nurse, taxi driver, her household Sudoku champion, and a runner with way too many aches and pains to be any good. She lives with her husband and her two children who all make fun of her inability to exist without the help of a Post-It note list on a daily basis. She also has two very needy dogs who do not make fun of her, but take turns emptying the garbage in the kitchen just to get her blood pressure boiling. Bumbling idiot mothers are simply not my cup of tea. This series were tagged as cozy mysteries, but the only apparent mysteries for most of the book were due to the stupid jumping to conclusions of the MC.

A final quick read for this trilogy although I think there was supposed to be a prequel happening at some point in the future. For now this is the end of Amy's story and its much the same as the previous two books. I had hoped that Amy would have changed a bit by the end compared to how she was when first met her two books ago but she just never quite made it. It was still something to pass the time with and while its not an amazing series it should keep most chick lit fans entertained.

Poor Amy. Roger has decided to take the family on vacation to the Caribbean Islands, and Amy feel like she's not getting to relax. Her youngest daughter has grown boobs overnight so her bathing suit no longer fits and one of her sons left his shoes on the security conveyor belt.

Then, to top it all off, her sixth sense tells her Roger is having an affair with one of his students working at a Caribbean restaurant. Never mind that logically the great distance he'd have to travel to be with her, Amy is so sure that she's going to catch them in the act and surprise him with the evidence.

After she follows into a dark alley the person she thinks is Roger, she realizes her mistake after she is caught and kidnapped along with Roger. Taken by boat to a remote location and tied together, she confronts Roger who laughs at her. I can't say anything else without giving everything away so I'll just say .... Read it and giggle the whole time!!

This book didn't thrill me. In the first 2/3rds: there was too much complaining about the family, by the Mom, Amy and she was just super crazy to do what she did for 4 kids and a husband who took her for granted. I was angry with her for being such a doormat- I found the book not very entertaining until there was an episode with guns, abduction, and a ring of criminals. Then things seemed to be working out. The laast part of the book was thrilling, weird, funny and touching and made up for some of the disjointed family antics that occurred earlier. The very end of the book was a bit unexpected, but I think I can related to a mom or woman who put her own needs behind that of her family.

A fun adventure

The heroine, Amy, is full of sarcasm and self deprecating humor. She is kind of an Erma Bombeck with the attributes of Lucille Ball in 'I Love Lucy.' Although her husband is no Ricky Ricardo the two face an adventurous vacation and bond lovingly because of it. Lots of jumping to conclusions, jumping off of ledges and even falling off a yacht....but always entertaining and laughable. If you are looking for a fun and humorous read...try this one.

Amy Maxwell's sixth sense is strong and accurate, but not all the time. She follows her heart even when her head tells her otherwise and this causes her to end up in dangerous circumstances. I couldn't help but start talking to Amy about halfway through the book, telling her not to do whatever it is she wants to do next because I can see that it will lead to a disaster.
I enjoyed the book and it held my attention to the end.

I really, really loved this story. I liked the little surprise parts they caught me off guard the 1st one or two times (I don't want to say what they are and post spoilers) It had Great characters especially Amy and Jason and I cannot wait to read more about them. I would have given this book 5 stars if not for the mistakes because they really distracted me while reading this story.

Just couldn’t keep reading. The complaining was just too much. Very few books I won’t finish and this is one.

I tried again a month later and got a few paragraphs in and same feeling. Main character is not relatable and is just too miserable to even care where the story line is going.

Got this free via amazon thankfully.

It was like a car crash of a book. Not a single relatable character and I'm really really sick of women characters being batty, disorganised and 'paranoid', and having the man be the real 'romantic' who was vilified all along.

Mostly a really fun read.

The thuggy part wasn't even mostly part of the story till the last. I do wish she could find a good reader, to find and fix the mistakes, but overall it was a fun, laugh out loud kind of book.

Book review

Wow! This is the best book I have read in years! It had me on page 1 and I did not stop until I finished. Every mom can truly understand and absolutely love the adventure. An absolutely funny and exciting read.

I'm done with the series. I don't find Amy's "madcap" ways amusing at all at this point. Everything is super dramatic and her imagination is just ridiculous. Her children are still feral and I've no doubt that her husband will go back to his old ways.

Okay read

It was a cute story just a little too long. The comedy and mystery kept you reading until the end.

Try a dictionary

Clamor means noise, the word you're looking for is clamber, which means to climb something.
Sorry, but it's a simple process to look up a word you're not sure of.

A family story

I am sure many of us with a family can relate to this family and the friction among siblings as well as parents.

Be prepared to laugh!

Two dialogues intertwine as mom daydreams while reality tells the tale of a family of four rambunctious children as they go on holiday.

Never a dull moment

Action packed from the start. Vacations with kids are always an adventure and not always the good kind. I laughed out loud several times at this one.

Couldn't keep reading. Tried to keep reading, but the excessive one-voice monologue. No conversation or flashbacks to break up the monotony. The story may have improved, but I couldn’t keep interested enough to find out.
