Dan Wiseman was passionate about his job, almost too passionate to realize that he was falling in love. He had to pursue Gaya Asher, the only witness he had to show that Ryan Albright was a devious human being. A paralegal for the District Attorney's office, Dan finally gave up his pursuit of Ryan Albright when Ryan avoided a conviction in court. Ryan was handsome but arrogant, and he believed that he could easily outwit Dan or any other member of the Prosecutor McPhee's team. In fact, Ryan's first court case was designed to be a stepping stone in his plan to commit the perfect murder. Ryan survived an abusive father and the murder of his mother, but the betrayal of his girlfriend proved to be his undoing. Creating a plan of revenge consumed four years of Ryan's life and was the primary motivation for each and every move that he made. He targeted Gaya Asher because of her routine pattern of behavior and the ease with which she was manipulated.
It wasn't until I returned from a year-long, solo driving trip around the United States that I wrote my first book, a personal memoir that I haven't as yet published. Thoroughly enjoying the experience of writing, I spontaneously wrote my first mystery novel. The experience was so 'novel', the characters so willing to tell their own story, that I never stopped writing. Twenty-one books and seventeen years later, my unique stories cover a wide spectrum, from humorous metaphysical fantasy in "Last 90 Days, Archie Trilogy Book 1," and magical realism in "Between the Trees," to a psychological thriller in "The Building." Blending multiple genres, my stories have inspiring stories of transformation, as well as humorous and romantic threads woven into the plots.
Another great novel from Gail Matelson! I was given this book, as a gift, in exchange for an honest review. I, thoroughly, enjoyed this thriller. I wouldn't categorize this as any specific type of thriller, as it encompasses aspects of legal, psychological, criminal procedure, suspense and a sprinkle of romance. The story's protagonist is Dan Wiseman, an investigator with the Mentana District Attorney's office who enters into the investigation, of his life, against Ryan Albright and his diabolical plan. During Dan's investigation, he meets, Gaia Asher, a woman who is an intricate part of Ryan's devious plan. As Dan and Gaia spend more time together, they fall in love as they unravel the many twists and turns in pursuit of the mysterious Ryan Albright. Ms. Matelson keeps the reader on edge. Just as you think, the story is going one way, the author throws you a twist you won't see coming. The story takes the reader into the courtroom, with a trial, that seems so real it parallels something you may see on T.V or read in the paper, with an exciting and suspenseful ending. Ms. Matelson creative touch brings the characters to life and easy to relate to. I have given Broken Routine 5 stars because it goes beyond many of the thrillers that are out on the market today.
I could say this book is interesting. It was a fast read. Though I should say it was not as interesting as I thought it would be. The beginning of the book seemed very interesting and the plotline was engaging but it soon became very hurried very convenient. The hero of the book was a kickass investigator. And the book is all about his investigation. The so called bad guy who seemed smart, savvy later on seemed just plain crazy. I thought we would have a smart villain but it turned out he was stupid lucky. He plans such a complicated perfect crime but still the guy and story was not impressive.
The female.. The one our hero falls for has a OCD. So Ryan the bad guy plans around her for the escape of the future crime he is going to commit. It's not a spoiler. Her story or her relation ship with Dan (our leading guy) was not convincing. Neither was the romance.
For that matter Bella. A PI who works for Dan was so lame and egotistical that it was borderline psychotic . Actually it's a very complicated story and would have been a great book instead of a good book with very few changes. It was fun and fast and interesting. It's just the characterisation is not great. But I am going to check out his other books because I really really like his plot line.
Dan Wiseman, Lead Investigator for the District Attorney's, relentlessly investigates crimes committed by Ryan Albright. During his investigation, he meets and falls in love with Gaia Asher an ex girlfriend of Ryan Albright. Can Dan uncover enough evidence to bring charges against Ryan Albright? The ending will surprise you.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I won this book in a Good Reads giveaway. I may never have read this book otherwise, however, I am so glad I did! I have found a new mystery writer. Thank you Gail Matelson and Good Reads. I am looking forward to reading more mysteries by Gail Matelson.
