Inferno Falls #1

The Boss's Daughter

Rate this book
Riley’s whole life is ahead of her … if the temptation of her father’s new protégé doesn’t prove to be too much to stand. The first book in the Inferno Falls series, from your new favorite romance author. Ever since losing her mother as a girl, Riley James has lived for her father, Mason. The loss has nearly consumed them both, and they’ve only survived it together. But while Mason is moving into his twilight years, Riley is still young and ready for her life to begin. Her father’s shared grief -- once the warm embrace she needed -- now feels like a set of shackles that are starting to chafe.

Brandon Grant is smack dab in the middle of his life’s best years. So far they’ve been devoted to the construction company where he’s dedicated the last several years. A product of the foster care system, Brandon comes from a dark enough past that he can never let anyone get too close — except his boss, Mason James, who steps into the void his father was never there to fill. After years of back breaking work, Brandon is finally about to land the promotion he’s always wanted. Soon, he’ll finally start living for himself, and find someone to share in the happiness he’s sure to earn … eventually. But love can’t always wait … Just as Brandon is being groomed for the position, he meets the sweetest, most charming, and electrifying girl he’s ever seen — and realizes, with the crushing, sinking knowledge that she’s Riley James, the boss’s daughter.

While Riley might be ready to move on, her father can’t, and he makes it abundantly clear that Brandon’s not to go near her. As he spends more and more time in the office, preparing to become the company’s big man, he clocks more time with Riley. Soon, their spark ignites to inferno.

Riley and Brandon must decide if their happiness still means what they’ve always thought, or if they’ve finally found the person who can turn their lives into something more.

I love to write stories with characters that feel real enough to friend on Facebook, or slap across the face. I write to make you feel, think, and burn with the thrill that can only come from getting lost in the pages. I love to write unforgettable characters who wrestle with life's largest problems. My books may always end with a Happily Ever After, but there will always be drama on the way there.

Welcome to Inferno Falls! The first book in this series brings us the story of Riley James, daughter to the wealthy developer Mason Riley and Brandon Grant, the kid from the wrong side of the tracks – turned contractor and potential suit for Life of Riley, the company that Mason Riley owns.

Riley is fresh out of college and returning home to begin an internship at her father’s company so that one day she can take on the role of ownership. When she is paired up with Brandon, who is up for a big promotion, things get complicated.

I enjoyed this read so much! Both Riley and Brandon were instantly lovable characters and I loved the battle between the risk of giving into their attraction and what that could cost them in the end.

It was a bit refreshing to have the role reversal for our H/h. With Riley being the one with the bit of wealth and Brandon struggling to rub two pennies together – often times it is the easy route to go to just label the hero as filthy rich and be done with it – eliminating most of the day to day struggles. But not with The Boss’s Daughter. Brandon had to put it all on the line in order to get what his heart wanted and in the end that really made him more endearing as a character. It wasn’t just a risk at being hurt that was at stake – it was his own survival, the ability to help his foster-sister in times of need.

A fantastic start to this new series!

I received an e-arc of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Overall, this book was enjoyable. I think it took a little too long to get going and I found Riley frustrating. She keeps clamoring about being taken seriously, but she's twenty fucking two and acts like it. She acts like a the spoiled little rich girl that she is, with no clue as to how the rest of the world works. I didn't like her description of her friend, I didn't like her attitude, her actions, and had a hard time liking her.

Brandon also acts way younger for someone who should be more mature based on his background. I found him difficult to like as well to begin with.

The story did keep moving forward and I kept reading, but their actions and reactions often contradicted what they said they were trying to be, so this book fell short for me. However, by the end, I was definitely interested in reading more from Aubrey Parker and continuing in the Inferno Falls series. The author was successful in building a world and the start of characters that intrigue you enough to want to keep reading.

The Boss’s Daughter introduced me to Aubrey Parker’s writing. We begin with Riley, the home from college daughter ready to work for her father. Riley lost her mom and therefore has a close relationship with her dad. Brandon is the a contractor for Riley’s father and is due up for a promotion. They catch each other’s eye but fight the attraction because of who she is and their jobs. Brandon’s lack of confidence and low self esteem was hard for me to get past. Luckily Riley sees the light in Brandon.

Give The Boss’s Daughter a chance. I am looking forward to reading the rest of The Inferno Falls series to read more about the other characters and maybe get a little more insight into Riley and Brandon’s life together.

I’m such an idiot.
I’m a dumb, impulsive, ridiculous little girl.
I knew better than this, but here I am.
I’m sitting on the edge of the tailgate, looking east, seeing the sky turn slightly more orange, slowly losing its red. We’re still a while from sunrise, and I hope Brandon and Bridget finish what they’re doing long before then. Right now, it’s dark enough that Bridget couldn’t see my eyes when she passed, and we were both able to act like we each hadn’t noticed the other. Bridget pretended I was hanging out back here like cargo. I pretended too. Nothing happened. Just two people out for a ride, with one in the pickup, when something went wrong and they ended up stuck for hours and hours of nothing at all. photo Teaser 5_zpsemuscidn.jpg
The truck’s hood is up. There’s a white-yellow glow around its edges from where I’m sitting, and in the dark it’s bright enough to be stark. I can see the ground around them, but not their faces. Brandon had some sort of hanging light. He had to ask me to move so he could grab it from a toolbox. His voice was flat and courteous. I moved away, practically apologizing. We’re stupidly civil. Nothing makes people polite like having sex that shouldn’t have been had.
I don’t know what came over me. One moment, I was angry, and the next I was ripping his shirt open. We were arguing then he was kissing my neck. I had plenty of chances to stop it. Everything before my panties came off. Everything before he was inside me.
Even as ashamed and stupid and guilty as I feel, my mind keeps going there. My mind keeps seeing the way he looked. My body keeps reliving the sensations. I don’t have a long sexual history, but last night — if it counts as last night this early in the morning — would have stood out even in a whore’s resume. I didn’t think lust like that existed outside of movies. I felt helpless. I should have stopped it, of course. But I couldn’t.
And Brandon? He just fucked the boss’s daughter. He should have stopped it, too.
The dirty words circle my head like a halo.
He fucked the boss’s daughter.
He fucked me.
It should be more tender than that, but it wasn’t. And my traitorous mind wants to keep repeating the images, the words, the shameful lack of restraint. This was a terrible idea, and both of us knew better. If anyone finds out, Brandon’s career will be over, and I’ll never take over my father’s company. Dad won’t fire me like he will Brandon, of course, but I’ll be a permanent intern. A receptionist or clerk at best. He’ll never take me seriously. He’ll never look at me and see as more than a teenager, even once I hit thirty. He’ll even pretend to understand. He’ll say I’m a grown woman and allowed to be with whomever I choose. But that won’t change the fact that I fucked his protégé. photo Teaser 2_zpseebepa6r.jpg
I want it to be something different. I want to say we made love. But I can’t. I can barely even say we had sex. No. That was animal. Primal. The kind of thing that a sensible up-and-coming, college-educated, responsible executive should have been able to resist because not to was the pinnacle of poor judgment. A key example of letting base instincts overcome reason. Dangerous impulsiveness. Which was fine, except that it wasn’t the kind of thing anyone wanted near the controls of a corporation.
And still I can’t stop thinking of Brandon’s hands on me. I can’t stop thinking of his lips. I can’t stop thinking of the rhythm of our passion. I can’t stop thinking of how strong he’d felt. That sense of delirious helplessness, as if I couldn’t have fled if I’d wanted.
Brandon climbs into the cabin.
The engine starts.
I hop down to see what’s next, but by the time I make it to where they were working, my eyes averted, the truck is pulling away with Brandon at the wheel.
I find myself facing Bridget. Her car is behind her, still running.
“Come on,” she whispers, her voice husky, barely audible beneath the sound of an idling engine and Brandon’s departure, “I’ll take you home.”

I was surprised by this book in a good way. From the title I thought it would be another alpha male dominating the sweet and innocent boss' daughter. But this book is not like that at all. It's sweet and fun. The characters are real with flaws and self doubts so it makes for a believable story. I liked all the characters. But there was A LOT of internal monologuing. It wasn't as bad as some romance books I've read since the characters weren't obnoxiously cliche, but it still got a bit repetitive. They'd monologue about the same situation to death. I would have preferred the author use up page space with conversation and make more events occur. I was definitely left wanting after each of their interactions but not in a good way. For instance there was a couple of times that Brandon (the lead male) was kind of a dick which would have made for a good story line and given the book some angst and emotional confrontation. But after Riley (the lead female) acknowledged that Brandon had been kind of a dick it was just brushed off. Come on man!! I want to see some groveling! Heart felt apologies! Something to make me swoon over Brandon. But no! Nothing like that happens. that's the kind of thing that happens throughout the book that leaves me wanting. All of their conversations are pretty bland which was too bad. And I like a man that will go after his girl no matter what. He finally does at the end but I wished that they'd have started a sweet (not a one night fling) relationship through the middle but maybe kept it under wraps. Become really close/attached and Then when her dad/ the company find out that's when the plot can hit the conflict. We never get to hear them say they love the other. We don't get any sweet love scenes. The whole time hey are just monologuing about how hard they are trying to fight this attraction and then boom! It's the end of the book and finally Brandon makes a very iffy declaration of like for Riley. Then the next chapter picks up like months after that giving us a nice happy view of their future but come on!! We missed out on all the sappy good parts that I want from a love story. Again, I didn't hate this book I was just sad for all the missed opportunities to be a really great, sweet love story with a swoon worthy male lead but it just fell short.

I feel torn about this review. The story was good, I enjoyed the writing, but there was SO much internal dialogue that it really made the book drag. Very little actually happened in the story and very little conversation took place. Internal dialogue is important to understanding the characters, but it might not have seemed excessive if there had been more action or conversation. I found myself skimming paragraphs at a time, looking for quotation marks, just because I started to get bored.

I feel torn because I am seriously A.D.D., so for all I know, I'm alone in this opinion. I tend to get distracted when there is too much descriptors or internal dialogue, so I don't want to dissuade other readers from taking a chance on this book just because I don't have the attention span to read thoroughly.

Had a free e book copy so I decided to read this hoping some new adult would get me out of a reading slump. Only look me the morning to read it. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. It was okay. Riley was annoying at times but I did enjoy Brandon's character. Insta love is on full effect in this novel, more like Insta hate turned lust turned love. It was okay.

So I really like this one, it wasn't like overly romantic but a good story about a girl named Riley who is fresh out of college and falls in love with Brandon who has been working for her father for three years of the four years she's been away at college, Riley wants to please her father and take over the family business. And Brandon has worked his way from the bottom of the company and now applied for a VP position...but falling for each other makes for complications for both Riley and Brandon, and even though Bradon don't handle some situations the way he should his sister pushes him in the right direction. And am not completely sold on Riley's best friend I think she rude but she does end up helping Riley come to terms with her fellings. I like how it's wrote from both Riley's and Brandon's prospective. Anyways the next book it about two characters mentioned in this book Abigail and Gavin which I can't with to read..

Refreshing romance solid 5 stars!

This is the first book I have read by author, Aubrey Parker. I started with his first book in a new genre for him romance, he writes under another name as well.
The book was very refreshing and not overly sexual or explicit like I normally read. It is well written with intelligence.
The characters have time to develop a young college graduate from wealthy upbringing and a young man who was in foster care now barely getting by. Brandon, the young man works for Riley's father in a construction business.
The book is lighthearted, romantic, the father is a tyrant at the office yelling is his method of getting things done. His weak spot is his daughter.
This book because it is written so well and honestly I couldn't put it down until I finished, I have to at least give it 5 stars!

I'm sorry but this book just did nothing for me. I liked the sound of it but really struggled to keep turning the pages and was bored. I did persevere though and for me it was just the last few chapters that it picked up and I enjoyed it. Around the time Brandon seemed to realise he had some balls and stepped up and stood up to Mason. I have the second book in the series but haven't decided if I'm going to read it.

It was a good book and she’s a good author. I want to read more of her stuff. I just wish that 7/8 of the book wasn’t spent on there adventure of pussy footing around each other afraid to admit they wanted each other. I wish there would of been more of them being together then just the last 2 chapters!

Yeah, this one didn't hold My attention. A young attraction at odds, which caused a lot of "what if's"
And for all the "what if's" one little argument it was over, the end of the book. I would have liked the author to have less doubts and more outcome.

A free book

This book was middle range. There wasn't much to it really. I liked the characters and the story line was good but room for improvement. I felt there was a lot of internal dialogue for the characters which went on a bit long and would have preferred less of that and more conversation between the characters. It didn't cover a very long period of time and only a few situations. Like for instance they went to dinner once through the whole book. They had one sexual encounter and a couple of incidents at work, that was it. Not enough content for me. I thought it would have had more sexual tension build up

4.5 -- Beard -- stars

This book is a great debut novel and I enjoyed it a lot.

Riley just graduated college and returns home. She is sad her college life is over and she will miss her friends, but she is ready to prove to her father she isn’t a young girl anymore. She wants to work at the family company, start as an intern and then later own the company. On her first day back home, she meets a man, Brandon. Brandon has been working for the company for several years and has worked his way up. Now he has the opportunity to be the vice president of Land Acquisition. This new job will mean more money and he needs the money, because he has been struggling and his sister needs his help. Brandon and Riley meet at work again and then at a work dinner. That dinner changes everything between them and affects their future.

Brandon had a difficult past and is poor, but he has his sister and that is the only person he needs. He really takes care of her and will do everything for her. He isn’t confident and doesn’t think he is smart, but he does great work and deserves that promotion. Riley misses her mum and now she desperately wants her dad’s approval. She’s strong and smart. They are good for each other, because they both see the best in the other person.

In the beginning, it’s obvious that they are attracted to each other and it’s love at first sight, but they fight against it and don’t know how to act around each other. Sometimes they have a great moment together and then they have a fight. They could be stubborn. I do think that the ending was rushed and also their realization that they were actually in love. It does take a long for them to be a couple and the book isn’t steamy. I liked the epilogue, but it could have been longer.

This is a standalone and we got to know a little about the main characters in next book. When I read about them, I wanted to know more about them and was curious about their story. So I’m very happy that the next book will be about Abigail and Gavin! I will definitely read the other books of this series.

This debut novel is a great story of the conflict between doing what we believe is right and doing what our hearts want us to do. Brandon is working on a promotion, while Riley is trying to prove that she is more than just the boss's daughter...both at the same company. Neither is looking for any type of relationship, but neither can deny the flood of emotions that fill them both when they are around each other. These emotions range from anger, to humility, to frustration, to raw sexual tension. Each are afraid to admit any of their feelings for fear of doing what they believe is wrong, and, in turn, they end up using anger and annoyance to push each other away. If they give into their feelings, is Brandon no longer a viable candidate for the promotion? Would Riley acting on her feelings prove to her father that she isn't serious about her job and being responsible? Are they willing to risk it all and give into their feelings? You will have to read the book to find out!

I found the interactions between the characters to be full of emotions. I laughed along at some parts and became frustrated when the characters would. There are a couple of supporting characters that make appearances throughout the book that give us a glimpse into their story, but that's it. I'm sure these are characters that could potentially have their own stories in the series. There were parts of Brandon and Riley's past that were mentioned but then the story would continue on, and that left me with more questions about their past and wanting to know more. I also felt that the book ended abruptly. By that, I mean that there is a pivotal moment which is followed shortly by the end of the book. How much time had passed? How did they get to that point? Perhaps it will be covered in a future book...but it just up and ended for me and I felt like I had missed something. Overall, though, a great read that kept me interested and entertained. Kudos to Aubrey Parker on a beautiful and well written debut novel. I look forward to what she has in store for us next!

ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review

Okay, let's be honest. There are so many categories that I would like to put this under. It seemed like a New Adult book but there was only one part in the book that was actually really graphic so I put it under a Contemporary Romance/Young Adult shelf.

Riley, the boss's daughter, is coming home from college and very close with her father because of the fact that she lost her mother at such a young age. Brandon, a hard-worker and reaching for the best as well as being a caretaker for his sister, Bridget. By the 20th-something chapter, their sexual tension is finally relieved and now, cue the dick-ness from Brandon because obviously nothing can happen between the boss's prodigy and the boss's daughter.

You will constantly want to smack your head against the table because of the fact that even though Riley wants to be noticed for how smart she is not for who she is, she sure doesn't act like it by acting bratty towards Brandon. Maybe that is why he thought she was so attractive was because she put up a fight with him. As his sister said, 'You guys are just like kids'.

Don't hate me for my honesty but I don't think i would read this particular book again but I can see a lot of potential coming from Aubrey Parker with these series and I look forward to the next few books in The Inferno Falls series. I rate this specific one a 3.2 out of 5 stars.

The Boss's Daughter is Book #1 of the Inferno Falls Series by Aubrey Parker. Is very well-written and very refreshing. To be honest it got me by surprised since I was expecting to find a dominant guy getting his way and so on. However, what I found was totally different. I love the chemistry between the main characters, and even though there is only one hot steamy scene, I love the fact that I was captivated and intrigue by how the story developed, wanting to know what was going to happen next, that I didn't even notice until the very end.

Riley is a 22 year old girl coming back home after graduating from college to start her new life as an independent adult, despite the fact being very wealthy. All she wants is the chance to prove her dad she can earn her place in his company and that he trust her with her choices.

Brandon Grant is a devoted and very dedicated employee of Riley's dad for several years now, and he's being groom for a very important and well deserved promotion after years of back breaking work proving to be one of the best assets the company has. A product of the foster care system, Brandon comes from a dark enough past that he can never let anyone get too close, except his foster sister for whom he'll do anything to protect, or that's what he thougth.

I greatly enjoyed this book, which by the way can be read as standalone. I can't wait for the next installment.

The Boss's Daughter tells the story of Riley and Brandon. Riley has graduated from college and is coming home where she hopes to work for her dad's company. Brandon is an up and coming star in her dad's company and is up for a major promotion. These 2 could not come from more different backgrounds. Riley had two loving parents and was given anything she ever wanted. Brandon was a product of the foster system and was living paycheck to paycheck.

When the 2 meet there are instant sparks. These sparks confuse both because Riley is trying to prove she is no longer a little girl and Brandon is trying to prove he is the right man for the VP position. Eventually they can't fight their feelings and disaster strikes. I loved the way Brandon finally stepped up and fought for what he wanted. The ending was sweet and perfect.

I wish the story spent more time showing actual interactions between the 2 main characters instead of spending so much time inside their inner musings. I had a had time feeling the love between the two because I didn't actually see much interaction between the two. There was more dialogue in the last 15% of the book than in the other 85%.

I will definitely pick-up the next book in the series. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I really did not enjoy this novel. The plot was lacking and the leading couple weren't very developed or likeable.

I couldn't stand Riley as a leading lady. I always want some spark and sass from the leading heroines, but Riley was a whiner and she was incredibly immature. She was always complaining about not being taken seriously, but she never really gave any indication that she was anything more than a spoilt rich kid. Where was all this business knowledge she seemed to have? As a reader I had no evidence beyond other characters mentioning it vaguely in other conversation.

Brandon was everything a hero should not be. He didn't get the jokes and banter. He didn't have a stability that I could latch on to. He didn't have that *swoon* factor. He just stood there like an idiot half the time and it didn't make my knees weak at all.

There was no real plot beyond the relationship. I was expecting it to kick off between the them all because Brandon had -0 in his bank account and he was suddenly getting involved. Maybe Riley had been targeted for her money at college and had returned trying to prove herself as something other than a bank balance and this could have shaken everything up...

But I'm just a reader and I can tell you that I didn't enjoy because it felt undeveloped and insubstantial and I wouldn't recommend.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

This is the first time I read any of Aubrey Parker’s books, and this was an enjoyable debut novel to read. I enjoyed the characters of Riley James and Brandon Grant. Riley, the boss’s daughter, graduated from college and is home to start working at her father’s (Mason) construction business, which she hopes to take over one day. Brandon currently works for her father and has worked his way up in the company. Now he is Mason’s protégé, and he is being groomed for a vice president of land acquisition position.

After meeting each other, it is apparent that Riley and Brandon are attracted to each other. Brandon has a dark past that he cannot let anyone know about, except his foster sister. Brandon and Riley try to fight the chemistry that they have for each other because Brandon wants to be considered for the VP position and because Riley is his boss’s daughter. There is a surprising ending to the story and how Brandon handles the situation. This is a good start for the Inferno series, and I think it is worthwhile reading.

The Boss's Daughter is a book that warmed my heart in many ways. Aubrey Parker was able to capture emotions that made heart flutter and stomach drop. From Riley's naivete to Brandon's awakening, and everything in between, this book tells a story of a love that is wrong, but right in so many ways. I was taken through pages filled with tension, lust, frustration, sadness and complete contentment. I fell in love with Riley's willingness to be emotionally sacrificial. She was so green in so many ways but was determined to go against the grain of what she normally would do. Her need to prove herself to so many made her strong and admirable. Brandon's stubbornness aided the push and pull of this story. He was definitely set in his ways as method of self preservation. For a man that was so young, but had lived the life of many, he was not willing to make foolish mistakes. But knowing that Riley captured his heart like no other, being foolish wasn't something that he would be able to control. With The Boss's Daughter, Aubrey Parker sets the stage for an intriguing series that I am excited to read.

I received and arc in exchange for an honest review. ****This review may contain spoilers*****

This book was just okay for me. I didn't get drawn into it like I have with other books. It was a decent story line, but really repetitive. After 3 days of reading I was at 76% and could have walked away, and not finished the book, and it would not have bothered me. But pushed forward and finished it. The last 10% of the book is what saved it for me. What ruined the book for me was the fact that the majority of the book is in the characters thoughts. There really wasn't a whole lot of dialog between the charters. I grew so tired of hearing Brandon's poor poor me thoughts and Riley's poor rich me thoughts. I admire each of the characters for wanting to better their lives, but when every other sentence consists of these thought its a little much. Brandon is broke and really needs this promotion to get his life back on track and Riley grew up with everything handed to her so now she wants to earn it (both respectable and awesome, but could have been told differently).

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book. It was nice to see that the male character wasn't another billionaire sweeping the poor virgin off her feet. He was an average man struggling to make it in the real world.

Even though Riley is from a rich family, she is still struggling with the death of her mom that she hasn't fully gotten past the grief of her death. Riley is trying to please her father but also show that she is no longer a little girl, but a grown woman wanting to earn her place in the family business. Brandon is struggling with makeing it in life after growing up in foster care and prove to his boss that he can go from a blue collar job to management in the company.

Both struggle with their feelings for each other, thinking it will interfere with proving themselves to her father, his boss. It was a nice change of pace. I look forward to the second in the series!

A story full of ambition and hard work. Brandon the guy who didn't have a lot but a hard working man who works for what he wants. Riley, the rich girl who just graduated from college and ready to face the world. Being the daughter of a man who started the Life of Riley, it is expected that she be responsible enough to take over the company. But one night of impulsiveness almost changed everything. But both Brandon and Riley didn't give in to what her father wanted. They fought for what they both believe in and that is they can both have love and responsibilty at the same time. I like that the story goes back and forth between what the two main characters think is good for them and then contradict each other. In the end, love still won and they are proving that they can be responsible in life as well.

Looking forward to reading more from Aubrey.

I have been given and Advanced Copy of this book for an honest review.
I have to say this book is not like the books I have been reading. There is no Dominant or Submissive.
This is a story about Riley fresh out of college. Her goal is to make a place in her father's company, that just happens to be named after her.
There is no suspense, mystery or intrigue, but there is conflict when Riley meets Brandon. Brandon is an up and coming employee of the company who wants nothing more than a Vice President job that has been dangled in front of him by Riley's father.
