This book is garbage. It beats the dead horse of "sales dogs" from the title into the ground by attributing individual sales styles to breeds of dogs. The analogy seems like it's going to be appropriate at first, but as the book continues, it just gets confusing as all get out as you quickly forget what defines a poodle or a bulldog. Not that it would help much, since instead of giving advice and concrete examples, he pushes the same old types of generalized motivational advice that you hear everywhere. "Brush off failure! Get back up! Pick up the phone and sell!" If I hear one more stupid dog analogy, I'm going to throw the whole series in the river.

A very easy but insightful read to those interested in jumping into the world of sales, or already in sales but not aware of it. Most memorable take away for me is to embrace your own self and "breed". One does not need to change himself to be a sales superstar (a "BigDog") - one just needs to know himself well and work on those strengths and weaknesses.

Certainly one of the books that left an impression with me.

I might be biased. Yes, I am because I’m a closer follower of Rich’s dad philosophy. But one thing can’t be denied “Practice what you preach”. This man actually does. So, his advice most certainly is valid and valuable.

My take on this book: PERSEVERANCE. As a sales person myself this could not be truer than that. I didn’t think I was good at it but now I’ve discovered a different perspective. Very enlightening.

(I can’t believe it took me more than a year to finish it)

...To become a Billion Dollar Buyer you need to sell something :)

You must first change your mind about selling.

John F. Kennedy was selling, Martin Luther King was selling, Gandhi was selling, your children are constantly selling. Michael Dell, Louis Gerstner, Warren Buffett, Vinci Lombardi, your priest, your parents - they all sell. .... "Sales Dogs" by Blair Singer

Like your style and vision!
Very strong expression ....Great work!

This is a wonderful new book written as part of the new Rich Dad's Advisors series. Robert Kiyosaki has asked some of his closest friends to write books on their areas of expertise. Blair Singer stepped forward to contribute his take on salsemenship. 'Sales Dogs' is pretty straightfoward. It's a series of comparisons between different types of sales people and different breeds of dogs. Have you ever seen the movie 'Glengary Glen Ross'?? I kept thinking of those characters as I read this book. There's the fierce Pit Bull (Alec Baldwin) who moves in quickly for the kill. There's the old fashioned, loveable Bassett Hound (Jack Lemmon)... who gently walks up to you and nudges your leg and then there's the ultra smooth talking, highly polished french poodle (Al Pachino).
I loved this book. It makes some really great comparisions between man's best friend.. and man's (occasional) worst enemy. If you are in the pursuit of financial literacy, I highly recommend this one, with any or all of the other 'rich dad' books.

One has to wonder if the author attended two Tom Hopkins seminars and an NLP practitioner training before his friend bored him to death about the Big Five personality traits and in his daydreams was like DUDE, I can totally splice these three topics (Hopkins, NLP, and the Big Five) with Oliver And Company! That’s sure to make a 🔥 book!!

For what it is, it’s a rather clear explanation of all of the ideas, but they are completely uncredited—not even acknowledged. Super blatant rip offs. If you’ve never heard of the aforementioned disciplines/theories/teachers, this book might be mindblowing. If you have, it’s light reading/easy listening and might help you reframe an idea more simply.

But that said, I wouldn’t say that I really got much value out of this book. At first, I thought the sales dogs model was at least unique until the author began to summarize them as he was writing about them, and I realized how similar it is to some psychological models and it became less interesting.

It's interesting to know that you dont have to be so agressive to be a good salespersom. But after all, you still need to be a bit agressive.
The ideal that you have a potential of a salesperson inside and you don't need to absolutely change yourself is new but true, and it gives me a little more confident.
But I read the Vietnamese version of this book and I found it's not really a good translation

An interesting take on sales. I think this a great book for managers, more so than individual contributors. I couldn't agree more with the chapter on overcoming objections. Worth the read, but not the best book on sales.

A Good Motivator For all People

The dog analogies throughout the whole story was a bit annoying, and a little hard to keep track of.But outside of that it was a really inspiring book. Not only for sales of self mastery and emotional discipline.

I really like the way it teaches you to play to your strengths - my strength has never been the hard sell and it was useful to learn how to use my other strengths to close a sale. Just not fantastically written, but the ideas are good.

Did not get far in this book. Couldn't get past the excessive (seriously excessive) comparison to dogs. Dare I say more talk of dogs than sales. Terrible. Plenty of better books out there.
