This book did a great job at providing a deeper insight into what trauma-informed care really looks like in practice through various case study examples. The content examined how Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) providers holistically assist children in processing trauma through a psychosocial assessment to provide strengths-based practice within a socio-ecological framework. It detailed important protective factors, such as emotional intelligence skills, resiliency, and attachment styles to caregivers, while also discussing prevalent risk factors in each system, such as micro-level barriers relating to issues with engagement and rapport, and macro-level systemic barriers such as a lack of transportation. It also outlined different treatment plans and approaches, explaining the core concepts of safety-focused treatment, regulation-focused treatment, and beyond trauma treatment.
I really enjoyed how thorough this book was and look forward to using it within my future practice!
