It is 1576, and the legend of the Belmont family's vampire-hunting prowess still echoes through the Romanian countryside. While Christopher Belmont celebrates his nuptials, dark forces conspire to raise Count Dracula from his unholy slumber. With this ancient evil unleashed once more, young Belmont must to prove he is worthy of the Belmont legacy.
Trying to understand why this received such a low rating. Oh well. I certainly enjoyed it. I mean, it’s a CASTLEVANIA story in graphic novel form. What’s there not to like. At least Christopher Belmont holds his own in this short series, and having his wife as a strong ass side kick was even better. Keep it in the family I say. For as short as it was, you still receive a punch to the gut with the plot twists that happen. Surprises around every corner. Love it. I’m giving this 5 stars. I would love to see more of this story published....
Regardless, I’ve read this at least 4 other times and since it’s so short, and every time was better. The Oldman Orange podcast crew will be reviewing this more in depth soon and I will be along to join in on the fun. Keep a look out for it.
Having played some Castlevania games I think this, at that time is a very crude way of portraying that games - although to be fair the animation adaptation - it's not anime since it was not done by Japanese - is better that this novel but it's also more dark. I only saw the first two seasons then I gave up because it felt bad to be honest. It felt "we've show the tale that we were supposed to tell but now the company wants more money so let's milk it."
The art is also very outdated and it didn't felt nice to the eyes - if I can say that.
It was bad. Like, *very* bad. Illustration, the plot, story, dialogues, you name it.
Such a poor adaptation of a work with such a wide universe and rich fictional material is a different kind of success. Dracula’s character for example was a fiasco.
All this aside, if one is desired to write a story for such a wide fantasy fiction from scratch, that story must have a certain broad basis, maturation and development process. If you're going to bring Dracula back into the series for revenge, don't bother limiting it to one volume. In this series, an attempt was made to write a story of revenge against the Belmont dynasty in just a *4 issues*, naturally, it was failed.
If you're looking for more Castlevania material after Netflix animation, skip this series and jump straight into Konami's original video game franchise.
Eh, the graphic novel was alright, nothing really special here. I found it enjoyable enough but there was a certain amount of wasted potential; I think the story needed more pages to really develop the characters and such. As it is, everything feels a bit rushed and it's hard to get caught up in the characters and care about what happens to them. Overall it's not terrible but there's better stuff out there, especially for the price.
Note: this does contain some sex, violence, and nudity, so it's definitely for teens and above.
ENGLISH Acceptable. A bit short and rushed. The colorful artwork is very American, superhero-style, although I would have preferred something more gothic and dark, like what the artists of the Vertigo line used to do, for example. The script is possibly the weakest part of the whole thing, but it's not a disaster; it simply sets up and follows the action in the panels with provocative lines, threats, etc.
I've been in a Castlevania mood, so I decided to read this on a whim. It lines up nicely that I've been replaying The Adventure and Belmont's Revenge. I'm honestly a bit surprised at how negative the reviews are. Don't get me wrong, this is nothing special or particularly impressive, but it's really no worse than the Netflix adaptation. It does fall victim to the same kinds of issues, though – gratuitous violence and sex, original characters who sit on their thumbs and steal focus away from the lead, and wacky pacing.
It's a fun read, though, and I would have eaten this up as a kid.
Castlevania The Belmont Legacy TPB. Collects #1-5 of the 2005 IDW series. This book was a bit of a disappointment. Lackluster artwork. There were a few interesting parts to the story, but it was unremarkable overall.
Perhaps I misunderstand the chronology of the evolution of the lore, but I don't think this adds much to the world of Castlevania. My desire for the next season of the show is unquenched.
Completely failing to capture the feeling of gothic adventure, and failing into bring a manga-style westernized for comic format, still it has some funny moments amidst the cringe.
Saya selalu super subjektif kalau bikin review. Iya lah. Tapi sudahlah.
Intinya, saya bukan ahli Castlevania. Main Symphony of The Night aja saya KO dengan sangat menyedihkan waktu Alucard jadi melempem gara-gara Death.
Sisanya? HIDUP CHEAT!!
Yah, tapi jago nggak jago bukan berarti nggak boleh suka, kan? Jadi, biar nggak terlalu nelangsa, saya ngikutin hampir semua media-mix Castlevania series.
Tapi waktu baca komik ini, saya jadi ingat kata-kata seorang reviewer dodol;
"WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!??"
Yeah.
The best way to sum this up is to recite a very famous quote from William Shakespeare. "F*** it!"
A great read for all fans of the Castlevania video games. The interesting plot indeed complements the legacy of the Belmonts. Though a bit short, the fine detail and penciling makes the comics a fine read. Christopher Belmont's outfit needs some more work, in my opinion.
