Though not incorporated as a city until 1857, Hamilton can trace its roots back to the founding of Fort Hamilton by Gen. Arthur St. Clair in 1791.Throughout its history, Hamilton has been "The Greatest Little City of its Kind in the World," "The Postmark of Distinctive Trademarks," and "Known in the World's Markets." In the time between the close of the Civil War and the beginning of World War II, the city thrived. Led by steadfast pioneers and industrious immigrants, Hamilton developed into a community where anything seemed possible along the banks of the Great Miami River. The images herein detail Hamilton from 1900 to the 1950s. From a bustling county seat and the hub of Midwestern industry to leisurely endeavors, from distinctive neighborhoods to the people who lived in them, and from local education to individual worship, the life of the city is captured by over 200 postcards of the day, most from the author's private collection.

Very cool!

I'm no history buff, but how can you not enjoy learning about the history of your home town?

Growing up I had always heard about how Hamilton was known for being an industrial town, but never understood, or fully appreciated why. Now I get it! Hamilton paved the way for many industries. Pretty impressive to see what we accomplished, and all we endured.

This is a very nice collection of postcards with informative information to go along with them.

Hamilton proud! ✊️

This book depicts the history of Hamilton, Ohio through postcards, mainly from the early 1900s. The postcards are accompanied by helpful descriptions and further details about Hamilton's history. The postcards depict city streets, monuments, neighborhoods, factories, churches, schools, and more. Some of the most memorable postcards were taken during events like the 1913 flood or local fires. I knew very little about Hamilton before, and I feel much more informed!

So Many New Tid Bits!

I thought I knew a lot about Hamilton but I learned so much more by looking a bit deeper at the photos. I began to wonder what happened. hamilton was thriving. Was it economic? Was it social? Was it weather? Political? What was it that caused the downfall? I also would like to do a pictorial study of the light posts of Hamilton through your the years LOL! They change so often!
