This set of books is an overview of mythologies from ancient groups of people. Each opens with paragraphs about the importance that mythology played in ancient culture, highlighting elements found in the mythology of the book’s subject. Each book is then divided into two sections: “Who Were They?” (background about the culture for deeper understanding of the myths) and “Stories and Myths” (retellings of various myths using modern language). Text is straight to the point and unfortunately very dry to read. The books rely on heavy use of stock photos and sidebars that extend information to help break up the text, adding some appeal to readers. Bibliography. Glossary. Index.
