Having read all the decent free fiction on the net Drew could find, he set out to try his hand at writing something himself. Fed up reading about characters who were super-wealthy, impossibly handsome, and incredibly well-endowed, Drew determined to make his characters real and believable.

Drew lives a quiet life in the north of England with his cat. Someday he hopes to meet the kind of man he writes about.

I have been wanting to read this anthology for a long while and could not find it. It is now at both KU and Kobo.

* I loved this cowboy anthology! One of the best that I have read, and will reread.

* Roughshod-Dale Chase ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I have read this very well written story before. I can highly recommend Dale Chase’s old west oeuvre. The verbiage is true to the time and place. You can read the care that the author takes with the writing. The sex is real and passionate.
* Taming Brooks-R.W. Clinger ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Super hot sex scenes written in a raunchy, yet lyrical, way. Well written cowboy erotica with a loving ending.
* The Spring at Sloan Pond-Lee Crittenden ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent story of a hired gun and a downtrodden land owner which has a moving ending. A sequel would be great.
* Rogayo-Landon Dixon ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A wacky and wild premise: A gay rodeo where every event that would involve an animal, like bull riding or calf roping, is a naked man being roped or ridden, followed by public sex in the rodeo ring with the cowboy, in front of an attentive, all adult audience. There is a slight love story within this cheeky porn fest.
* Cowboy Therapy-Hunter Frost ⭐️⭐️⭐️
A sidewalk skater meets a cowboy at an equine therapy ranch which his mom friend is checking out for her child. Skater has a phobia of horses and cowboys from childhood summer vacays at dude ranch. Cowboy loving in the horse stable tack room has him starting to heal.
* A Change of Pace-Drew Hunt ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cute title for the hospital setting. A nice story of a slow burn, age gap, relationship between ranch owner and cowboy employee.
* Firefly Ranch-Rebecca James ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Funnily enough, right before I began reading this anthology I had been looking at the list of, new to me, author Rebecca James’s books. This was a well written story with two very attractive modern cowboys. I’ve read sex scenes in animal stalls before, but not one where a cow gave birth while the MCs are going at it in the hay! It was still pretty hot, lol. The story ending was romantic.
* Wild Ride-Kassandra Lea ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A little slice of a wedding night eight months after a fish out of water and straight city boy meets a mechanical bull riding hot cowboy in a bar. Cowboy husband is really tuned in to what his new, slightly overwhelmed, spouse needs and takes him out onto the prairie to a romantic honeymoon night setup. I enjoyed the story.
* Guy Walks Into a Bar-Georgina Li ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A very young cowboy walks into a bar and meets an older cowboy who wants him from the ‘hello’.
They are equally smitten and a lot of getting to know each other ensues before, during, and after some dirty sex. I was startled when the story just stopped at a different day breakfast scene with the nice aunt who wandered in during the morning after. It was a clean scene. I was ready to read more and am going to check out what the author has written.
* Nephi Takes a Husband-Bob Masters ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What an interesting story! Unusual subject matter, too. Nephi is an eighteen year old Mormon cowhand. While stringing fence line one day a very fancy dressed young man comes along a seldom used trail in this year of 1855 in Utah. Nephi is entranced with Johnny’s good looks, clothing, white horse, and his friendly and open ways. He is on business for his wealthy father. Johnny helps Nephi with the fencing and later they bed down for the night. It was interesting to read how straitlaced and indoctrinated Nephi was in Mormonism. He wore specially marked garments under his work clothes to keep away temptation. He was always hot. Johnny strips down for bed and Nephi almost faints, having never seen a naked man. Some sexy times occur and in record time Nephi tells Johnny that since they had sex they are married. Bemused Johnny is down for that and he and Nephi take off together. This was a kick to read and the author knows his stuff.
* Flyboys and Cowboys-Michael McClelland ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oh, no! Is what I said when I turned the page and the story had ended. There has to be a continuation of this adventure and love story. I like the setting, 1930 Central America. MC Guy is the owner of an airplane for hire and is always on the down low lookout for a quick hookup. He and MC Mac meet in a bar and Mac just happens to need a pilot for a cattle buying operation. And, he would like to give in to the feelings Guy has aroused in him. The writing was very good and the sex was, too. I hope there is more to this story.
* Wild West Show-Rob Rosen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
An 1890 period setting for a ménage á trois between a cowboy, a Native American, and a young cook in Buffalo Bill Cody’s Wild West Show as it train travels across the U.S.A.
The author gave a good overview of the set up and some logistics of the huge show. Boy howdy, as the young cook’s POV would say, was this some hot sex. All three were handsome and hot and so was the scene set in a teepee.
* Riding for the Brand-J.D. Ryan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Two cowhands from rival ranches meet at a watering hole near the fence line. They put down the guns they have drawn on each other and begin a fist fight and a wrestling match in and out of the water. Sexual hijinks ensue and they decide to meet there the next week. This was a painful story to read with all of the fists connecting to faces, ouch. I wondered how they could enjoy the sex all beat up? Good writing, though.
* Daniel in Distress-Feral Sephrian ⭐️⭐️⭐️
A nice story about a photographer leaving the big city after some personal setbacks and traveling to stay in a cabin in cattle country. He meets a handsome cowboy, Cole, who was a very nice character. I didn’t care much for Daniel, a little too into his own head, but nice enough for Cole to have feelings for him. Very little sex in this one. I would have liked to see Cole in action.
* Save a Horse-J.D. Walker ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I like the author dedication, ‘Drew, this one’s for you.’
The story had a sad vibe to it with more than one character giving up on true love, and they were just forty, with the main character saying the shelf life for gay guys is gone after forty. That’s a sad statement and doesn’t sound true.
Anyway, I didn’t care for this story, skimmed read.
* The Good, the Bad, and the Ojete-Salome Wilde
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ojete means a**hole in Spanish.
An old West bounty hunters story with quite a twist! The two bounty hunters were hot and chill acting. I really liked them both.

in the spirit of full disclosure, i have a story in this anthology (guy walks into a bar, by georgina li), and for that reason, i'm not going to do a proper review. what i'm happy to say about it is that like any anthology, some of the stories i loved, some i liked, and some just weren't my thing. there's a good mix of stories here, definitely something for everyone - from the wild west to the present day, from hot to sweet, violent to tender. a few of my favorites are:

roughshod, by dale chase
the spring at sloan pond, by lee crittendon
wild ride, by kassandra lea
flyboys and cowboys, by michael mcclelland
daniel in distress, by feral sephrian

This is a nice period piece set in the backcountry of Utah in the 1850"s. A young Mormon boy fixing fences on the plains is met by a young Catholic horseman coming up the Old Spanish Trail. At first suspicious, they eventually learn to trust one another and soon the young horseman is helping the other fix the fences. They bed down after dinner and find that their closeness is beginning to blossom into a more heartfelt appreciation for each other. An excellent depiction of same-sex love and romance in the middle of the nineteenth century, where two young men in the wild west learn to cast off their prejudice and then their clothes in the search for love and companionship.

Wild Ride Across the Years

This is an excellent anthology of diversified eras, settings and men who need men on the range and in the saddle. I cannot remember which ones caught most of my attention which means I really liked 90% of them.

If you're looking to take a break from angsty full length books, or are just curious, take this one to bed with you and discover how comfortable, and normal, it is for cowboys to hook up with each other without doubt or guilt.
