This is me and my three younger sisters. Being the oldest has never been easy, but it was especially hard the year I turned sixteen. That was the year that the things I thought would always be the same changed forever. After Dad died, Mom needed me to pitch in more--get a job and help take care of my sisters. I was working so hard to care for my family, I forgot to look out for myself.

Then I met someone who wanted to take care of me. For the first time ever, I was in love. It was wonderful. But it was also scary. Because if nothing lasts forever...how could love?

This is going to be a mini review, since I am on a family vacation, and this book was just so short, so I dont have much to say about it.

This review will be different. Personally, I had a lot of thoughts on this book. Rose was so stupid, I hated her. This book was short, I hope I dont have to hear about her in the next few books.

I purchased this book and read it for the first time at the ripe old age of twelve. Six years later, revisiting Rose and her sisters still gives me a warm feeling in my stomach, sort of like going home. This book isn't anything special, but perhaps that's what makes it so endearing to me. It's a simple story about family and growing up that makes you love and relate to its characters time after time. It has its flaws, especially in terms of representation, and, sixteen years after its first publication, may seem a bit outdated. But in the end, I know I'll always love this modern Little Women because it's been there for me throughout all of my own growing pains and reading it gives me a glimpse into my own past and perspective on how much I - and everyone and everything I've known during all these years - has changed.

(I read it as part of the omnibus version, but because I've not yet read the others...I'm using the singular version.)

A cute story. Very summer read-ish.

About Rose during the year after her 16th birthday. Her year starts off not very happy, with a boyfriend who she feels she can't open up to because of the differences in their social status and wealth. Her father has recently died and her family is struggling to make ends meet.

I didn't think that Rose was a very good main character. She whined a lot about her family's money situation and was embarrassed to admit it, she was very unappreciative of her mother. She also was overly emotional and unable to stand up for herself. There is development though, and she grows to be a better, more mature person by the time she turns 17.

I also thought the book was quite predictable, I could see all the major plot points coming very early on, which takes away a lot of the interest in reading. It was interesting enough to continue, but I wouldn't ever reread it and if I was going to suggest one of these books, it certainly wouldn't be Rose's. Not terrible, but not really all that good either.

I feel like this book would be better suited for younger girls in their early tween/teens rather than actual sixteen year olds, as it was pretty tame. The conflict wasn't really dire and so I felt myself not really caring what happened.

The Year I Turned Sixteen is a series of stories which follows four sisters as they each turn sixteen years old. This first one follows Rose, the eldest of the sisters as she's turning sixteen, shortly after her father has died from a fishing accident. With their father gone, the family are struggling financially which is a problem for Rose, one of the reasons being because she's dating a rich boy.

I found Rose to be exteremly annoying when the story started. She was kind of a brat at first and I know sixteen is not the maturest of ages but her thirteen year old sister, Daisy, was handling the situation they were thrown into much more maturely than she was.

However, she did grow on me halfway through the story. I feel like her relationship with Parker blinded her and after that ended, the story (and her character) completely changed for the better.

My favourite thing about the novel was the family aspect. I loved all of the sisters and am looking forward to reading their stories, especially Daisy.

I wasn't completely compelled to keep reading but by the end, I was smiling and I did laugh a couple of times too.

The Year I Turned Sixteen follows a family of four girls who live in Maine. The oldest is Rose and she is about to celebrate sweet sixteen, but life is not very sweet because their father has just died.

But life goes on, and amid her family's difficulties, Rose starts to really fall for a guy. She also starts to really want to be a singer/songwriter just like her role model, Sheryl Crow. I was in elementary school when I read this and I looked up to Rose, although I'm sure if I read the book now I'd have a different reaction.

A really cute book that was light without being fluffy. I found the protagonist really relatable even though she was going through somethings I have never experienced, and I really cared about what was going with her family. I liked that her love story was present, as you would expect, but the other aspects of the story mattered just as much, so the romance wasn't in a teen-vacuum where nothing and no one else existed after she met "the guy."

Really good! I felt like I could really relate to Rose, and the situations she went through we're very believable. She was a very likable character, and I loved Stephen! :) A great summer read. Can't wait to read the rest of the series!

This book was kind of a let down for me, considering it came highly recommended by a friend. Rose was less than appealing as a protagonist to me, and there's not much of a storyline either, I guess as a quick read it wasn't so bad, hopefully the rest of the sisters have better stories to them.

This book was an easy read but it was still good and well written.
I really don't think the girl on the front cover of the book actually looks 16 however...
Good summer read!

This book was TERRIBLE. Took forever to read with a terrible ending. I forced myself to the whole series, hoping that it would get better as the story continued. it didn't.

It was cute. Not really the kind of book I would read usually but I liked it. Not the best written either but still it was enjoyable.
