A Face From His Past

To the folks in tiny Rock Creek, Texas, Daniel Cash was a ladies' man with a smile as quick as his draw. Yet the infamous gunslinger with the legendary charm harbored painful memories of the girl he'd left behind when the War Between the States demanded his duty. Cash believed Nadine Ellington was better off without the man he'd become, but when she rode into town, dragging his past with him, Cash was tempted to consider another future...with her by his side.

Nadine had long ago given up waiting for Cash to return--she was too busy raising the son he didn't know he had. And though she'd never forgiven Cash's betrayal, she needed him now--to prove to their reckless, headstrong child that the life of a gun-for-hire is no life at all. But seeing Cash again awakens feelings she'd thought long dead--and soon she's wondering if the boy she once loved still lingers beneath the hardened man she can't resist...

And finally I finished rereading the final book. I did write a review when I first read it so, see below :-)

Well Day-um there’s nothing better than a great Western and this is a great one!! I didn’t realize it at first and then it didn’t matter, but this one is actually the last book in the series. I’m going to have to go back and read them in order now and then read this one again ‘cause I think it will be even better having gotten to know Cash in the preceding books. But even without knowing anything about him, I loved this book.

At first glimpse, Cash comes across as a hard and bitter kind of hero. He’s a gunfighter by trade and likes to spend time with ‘fancy’ women. The story starts out with a bang when he is almost gunned down whilst enjoying some tart time. The story then moves to the town of Rock Creek where Cash calls home when he’s not doing his gun slinging business. His world is rocked though when the girl he used to love comes to town to ask him a favour – can he try and talk her son out of his desire to become a gunslinger too. When Cash wonders why he should do a favour for the woman who broke his heart many years ago, she informs him because JD, her son, is also his son.

Although Cash tries to be all hard and devoid of feelings, we the reader can see the inner Cash, a man who feels he’s ruined his life and can’t settle down with the woman he loves for fear of putting her and their son in danger. While seemingly uncaring on the outside, he’s really a marshmallow on the inside and bitterly regrets the life he’s lived.

He is the kind of hero that makes me love a good Western hero!!

And Nadine is an equally strong heroine. Forced to wed a man she doesn’t love when it’s discovered she is pregnant, she has lived a lonely life. She lays it all on the line to Cash. It doesn’t take long for the feelings she has always had for him to come roaring back to life.

She’s a doctor and it doesn’t take long before she begins to make a life for herself in this town that needs a doctor.

This is the kind of book that makes it clear why I love the Western genre so much. It’s everything I could ask for. I wasn’t very far into it when I went searching for the other five. I’ve found four of them so far and have plans this weekend not to rest until I find the (temporarily) misplaced sixth book. I was looking at Wendy’s Keeper list and I see that she has at least 3 of this series on it. I’m rubbing my hands in anticipation of reading the rest!!

It was perfect and then it wasn't ...which made it..perfect.

Cash was a great character; broken but fun, entertaining and I loved his story. Nadine, who knew Cash years ago comes with her son to ask for a favor. Her son wants to be a gunslinger like Cash. As the pages turned I loved the characters more and more...I would love for a continued installment being that they hinted at 14 year old JD (Nadines son) growing up to be a man soon and some talk about past crushes and women so I thought I would love his story when he grew up, he had spunk and he was a boy wanting to be a gunfighter so the suspense made this book very engaging and I didn't want it to end.

Linda Devlin is very creative in her writing and to me she excelled at merging all the details and events together. The rest of the Rock Creek six were awesome extras as usual and the town of Rock Creek in general is a fiction place I never want to forget.

I should probably mention I thought this was going to be my least favorite of the series but I think its my favorite :)

Overall this series suffers from over the top attributes: too sweet, too unbelievable, obsessed with the heroines' purity and family values :D. But I gobbled it down in one sitting from book 1 to 6, skipping Nate only.
This is what I needed. Is that what you want to read? If so, there goes your choice. :)

This whole series was a decent read but honestly, I didn’t feel that great sense of satisfaction at the end of it all. Cash particularly.

I like the idea of the six revered but haunted traumatized men who overcome their fear and fight for the ones they love. That so did not happen here. From the beginning to end, all he did was runaway from his problems. Was the war traumatizing, definitely and I’ll buy it but it did not convince me that it made him the way he was.

So he comes back from war battered and sees Nadine marrying someone else and in his mind, he sees her smiling. He’s heartbroken and takes off and becomes this Don Juan sleeping around and promises never to love again. In actuality, she is heartbroken because his name was on the list of the dead and is young and pregnant with his child. She mourns him, misses him and fights for him and all he does is try to push her away or try to leave. Throughout the book, she has more gall than he does.

And sure, he tries to convince himself that he needs to stay away from them because of the people who want to call him out and try to kill him but i didn’t buy it. He’s in a pretty secure town with his friends and if he wanted to ensure their safety, shouldn’t be there to see to it?
I really felt Cash as a character was weak and did not like him. Even at the end, he gave up willing to “leave” by dying and if it wasn’t for his friends and Nadine, he would have just given up.

Unbelievable saga!

I read this whole series in less than a week and I work full time! A great ending too. Cash, the last of the Rock Creek Six to marry. He was the first to fall in love with his childhood sweetheart Nadine though and stuffed it down with loose women, alcohol and gunfights.

Their one night of passion before leaving for war resulted in their son JD. He returned wounded on Nadine’s wedding day to another as Nadine thought him dead and was forced to marry by her father.

Fast forward 14 years and she shows up with JD in tow. Her husband deceased for years, JD wants to be a gunslinger like Daniel Cash. Nadine figures the best way to sway her son away from that is Cash himself. The sparks from there fly, the spice level off the charts and in the end the saga gets wrapped up in a nice little bow.

If I Could add More Stars!!

I have read every book in this series and if I could only ever in my life just read this series, I would be happy!! I loved each man and the women that came into their lives. These books make me want to live in their town and visit and live with strong, decent people. I am blessed to be able to read so many wonderful stories! And as always lots of love and good feelings at a happy ending....LOVE IT!!!!

A good finale

The last in the series. Daniel Cash the gunfighter, one of the Rock Creek six, finally gets his woman. His former love Nadine, turns up in Rock Creek setting events in motion to end the series.
It began with six and ended with six...ten...sixteen... But they were all together at the end. A really good series which I am sorry to say is finished...unless the next generation...?

Beautifully Written

I don’t usually read Westerns, mostly because so many are so cheesy and predictable. And I’ve never read this author, though apparently everyone else has for decades. Wow, have I been missing out! This book was so richly-drawn, so touching, so beautiful that I couldn’t put it down. What a delight to have found such a great book and a new (to me) author to enjoy.

Okay, so once again, I wanted the trauma that made Cash so cold and dead inside to have been just a liiiiiiiiitle more devastating. Which sounds horrible, but that's what I was feeling. I also wanted it to be harder for him to forgive Nadine. That being said, it was still a fun romance, I just wanted them to suffer more. LOL! Yup, I'm terrible.

Cash, the deadly one.

Cash deserved his reputation with his guns. Even after the others have settled down and began lives of there own, Cash continued to hire his services out. When his past came looking for him, son in tow, he can't believe that it's real. Nadine was his first love and eventually she and his son JD, become his entire world.

Oh how the mighty have fallen

Daniel Cash was so adamant that he would not marry...Nadine sure cured him of that. What an awesome end to this series. I even loved the little epilogue. Good book and good series! Highly recommend!

Perfect ending to a wonderful series! Loved each one and to end with Cash is just right! Overcoming his reputation is not easy or even wanted, but . . . Great read!

I'm proud to dub this the best of thr Rock Creek Six series. I loved the dynamic between Nadine and Cash, and the interwoven characters from the previous books.

In a nutshell: Daniel Cash, the darkest, hardest member of the Six, is shocked when his old flame shows up in Rock Creek, TX, looking for him. Nadine wants his help convincing her son that the life of a gunslinger is no life at all. She also informs him that her son is also his son.

Sixth installment of the "Rock Creek Six" series: This book was just as consistent as the preceding books in the series. Bravo! to both of these talented authors.

My opinion: Superb! Cash was the character I found most intriguing from the first book on through. He was so dark and mysterious that I couldn't help but love him. This book offered a few surprises but no real shocks. His personality was developed well and in a believable manner. Nadine was a little less developed but still very interesting and likable. She was quite honest with herself and Cash quite early on in the story, which was a nice switch from heroines who so often lie to themselves about their feelings until the last chapter of the book.

Supporting characters: As with the first book in this series, the rest of the "six" were present in this story. They were all the same characters; no one had suddenly developed into anything other than their natural growth would produce. They still had flashes of self-doubt and sadness for their pasts but the contentment of their new lives outweighed the guilt. It was nicely done.

Note: The end of this story made me cry. While they were not happy tears, this was not a bad thing.

Complaints: The usual, graphic sex that was completely unnecessary for this compelling tale.

Cash is a very close second as my favorite book in this series. All in all, the whole series was wonderful. 5 stars across the board!

I think that these authors saved the best story for last! I have been excited all along to read Cash's tale and find out what set him on the path that he traveled in the other 5 books. His story did not disappoint and I feel that it was true to his character to have it go as it did. His love interest, Nadine, was an enjoyable character too. I liked how the characters portrayed her as a support and I didn't feel that at any point she was nagging Cash to do what she thought he should. She encouraged, but wasn't in his face all the time as some heroines are portrayed. Of course there was a HEA and the epilogue sealed the deal on why I would recommend these books to anyone who enjoys a good romantic western.

Overall, I would give this series a big thumbs up! I enjoyed all the books individually, but I think having the opportunity to read them as a whole made the experience much more enjoyable. Definitely books to keep!

Just finished all 6 of the Rock Creek Six. I couldn't put any of them down. I didn't think I was going to like this one as much as the others, but it is one of my favoritees.

Cash was last, and his character stayed true right to the end. I Loved what he made his life, and that he didn't turn all gushing father. (which isn't in his character).
