Peter's remote mountain sanctuary is under threat as refugees from a dying civilization invade his territory threatening his way of life. He befriends a Native American girl who helps him unlock strange powers that have lain dormant on the sacred mountain for centuries. Peter must use all his experience and newfound spiritual awareness to protect himself, and the girl, from impending danger. He finds himself in a centuries old tribal conflict with the 'Sons of Disobedience'. Someone has turned the clock back two thousand years and now it's a fight for survival. Supernatural forces draw Peter into a vortex of danger - he must fight not only for himself and the girl but also for the future of mankind. 'The Mountain' is a tense action thriller with intriguing mystical and environmental overtones that takes the reader on a journey through Native American folklore and questions the fabric of modern society along the way.
Native American culture is a big part of the theme of this bit, and it was such a beautiful read, as a thriller it was pretty well action packed but having the beauty of the cultures intertwined with this story made it a fantastic read. I was gripped from the very first page where I read the little Native American proverb, such a lovely start to a great book.
After a plane crash Peter (the Mountain Man) decides to leave his remote home on the top of a mountain to go into town to seek assistance, he discovers instead a complete and utter chaotic world. People are struggling to live, rogue groups are raping, stealing, killing. To his horror, he discovers this and little does he know he is going to become embroiled up to his neck in this very soon after he finds a pregnant woman in the wilderness as he heads home. He takes her with him to help her and protect her. However, he is actually a target himself as his cabin is well stocked with food which has become scarce, and a group of bikers who are very dangerous people soon find out about his little home and want it for themselves.
I loved the description of the mountain, the rivers, the sky, the animals, but the insight into the Native American culture in the story really gives you a sense of the past and how things were. I really did love this story.
The author is a very clever man to get this so perfect!!
