This is first entry in The Specialist series by John Cutter aka John Shirley that I have read. I checked it out after reading about it on the Glorious Trash blog. I was addicted to the now basically extinct Men's Adventure genre when I was a teen. A used bookstore in my hometown had hundreds of them, all for around a buck a piece, and I gobbled them up, even going so far as to subscribe to Gold Eagle publishing, getting I think 2 new books every month. I haven't revisited this genre since my 20s, as I was underwhelmed back then. This series, however, sounded like it was up my alley. John Shirley is an accomplished horror writer. I read his book Cellars about ten years ago and really liked it. So, I was looking forward to checking out his stab at Men's Adventure. I'm glad I did! The action is almost nonstop and the book chugs along quickly. The violence is excessive, but Shirley writes with his tongue tucked just enough into his cheek that it is a fun read. Its over the top like a fun lower budget 80s action movie you'd watch late at night over a few beverages. I think my rating would more accurately be 3.5 stars, but I will round up as I enjoyed this book and tore through it. I already have ordered four more of these, can't wait to see what Jack Sullivan gets up to next!

A terrific story and series

Every story in this series is adrenaline filled, action packed, and suspenseful. With great characters (the good guys at least! Lol!), humor, drama, angst, and intriguing twists, it's certainly not a series to be missed.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

I think this was Book Six in the series. Our hero takes on a veritable army with the aid of a couple of friends. As you might imagine, the body count rises! No less enjoyable as a light and quick holiday read.

YA

Now this was a thrilling book. All the characters were great and the plot line was terrific. I would recommend this to folks that weren't happy with his previous books.
