It is 2217. Civil War rages in London, England. The Pearson family in the East set their might against the Renzo stronghold in the West. Blood, destruction, death and toil. Many face the storm; few emerge in one piece.
Raphael Renzo, Morpher and youngest son of the famed Lord Renzo, leads his warriors into battle against the blood-thirsty, malevolent forces of thugs and hooligans who threaten to destroy everything he seeks to protect and all he holds dear. There can only be one outcome: victory. But Raphael must be careful; for the road to victory is rife with snares and not all is what it seems...
This Young Adult Dystopian novel is the thrilling sequel to Sarah Brownlee’s ‘How the Wolf Lost Her Heart'. A tale of honour, love and betrayal, it shows the depths both villain and hero will plunge to, one for supremacy, the other to defend those he loves.

Sarah Brownlee has done it again with her amazing sequel to How the Wolf Lost Her Heart.
First of all, let me say that this is definitely Raphael's story, if it wasn't evident from the title and description of the book. It was great to see his character develop and to experience a different side of Raphael. In How the Tiger Faced His Challenge, we got to see Raphael as a real character, not just the protagonist's love interest. Although this is Raphael's story, we are also privileged with Skye's point of view, which is nice.
Set in dystopian London, our characters are in the middle of a raging war. The thugs, commanded by the devious Lord Pearson are pitted against Raphael's family, the Renzos. The urgency, fear, and grief of war is reflected in this novel. In an attempt to protect the innocent citizens of London and to win the war, we see Raphael's decisions, emotions and thoughts. Even though the novel's main point was the war, the romance between Raphael and Skye was still present. It wasn't the main focus, but I think there was still enough to keep readers happy and having those "awe" moments.
The atmosphere in this novel was so real and eloquently created. I was kept on edge the entire time. The whole story was a cliffhanger and every chapter had a new twist or turn. I loved the adventure and the action, and it was interesting to see the characters under pressure. The writing of these scenes were very well done, and I had a clear mental picture of every situation.
Overall, it was very enjoyable. My only problem was that Skye was made out to be quite weak and she was pushed around a lot. I see Skye as a strong, independent woman, but I didn't get that feeling from this novel. However, I have a feeling that Skye will come back and kick butt in the next installment.
Be prepared for major plot twists, feels, cliffhangers, and one heck of a story!
This sequel to "How The Wolf Lost Her Heart" by Sarah Brownlee is a step up from what was already an excellent book. I feel that the author has grown a lot from her first book and it is evident from the very beginning of "How The Tiger Faced His Challenge". This time around the story starts with a prologue of Lord Pearson in his gothic-style mansion; a beginning which immediately drew me in. Any book starting from the antagonists perspective always grabs my interest as it feels like you've started in a restricted zone, almost against classic storytelling.
Taking place in a futuristic dystopian London year 2217, thugs roam the streets. What appears to be a disorganized group of hooligans is really being controlled and powered by the Pearson family. The only force in London able to stand up against the Pearson family is the royal house of Lord Renzo ruling in the west. Due to an experiment taking place back in 2012 there are now people known as Morphers who can-as the title implies- "morph" into their spirit animal. One such Morpher is Skye Archer, who's animal is the wolf. While the first book focused in a lot more on Skye's story, this book brings a lot more weight to the character of Raphael Renzo; the son of Lord Renzo, who has the ability to morph into a Bengal tiger. Now I don't want to mention too much of the story as I wouldn't want to spoil anything, but as you might know from the first book, war is imminent. This book takes everything up a notch from the previous by adding more action, suspense, and drama. The battle scenes kept you glued to the page as the story unfolded to an ultimate ending leaving the reader on edge. The third book should be heading in an interesting direction that I am excited to get to. One of my favorite parts in this series (although it also ties in with one of my main complaints) is it's fun and innovative new technologies it brings to the world. The first book had some really neat technologies as well, but I feel like the sequel shows off some ones that are even more creative and fun. My problem with these are how they are presented. When a technology is introduced the reader is pulled out of the story to read a description of the technology and why and when it was created. I feel like this is 'telling' the reader more so than 'showing' them and it definitely takes me out of the story a bit. The world building in many parts was presented in the same way. I think it works better when these are written more like it's ordinary everyday stuff in this world, not a school lesson to the reader. Overall this wasn't something that appeared too often in this book but it is something to note.
Sarah Brownlee is bringing the series in new directions with an upcoming prequel series about the original Morphers and the scientist who created their abilities, Professor Polgas. This prequel series will be aimed more towards children/middle-grade and I am excited to see how Sarah does with this. I feel like aiming it towards children will give her even more creative freedom while still maintaining the story. I'm looking forward to reading/ reviewing book 3 as well as the prequel series!
Great and enjoyable sequel to an amazing book. And it was, oh, so tense and hard to put down in the end.
This one was different than the first one. The focus of the story was more on growing felings and relationships between two main characters Skye and Raphael in How the Wolf Lost Her Heart. Of course, the coming war, the history and politics were mentioned too, but it didn't seem that much of importance, it was more of the surrounding for a beautiful love story. And it was quite the opposite in this book. Yes, there was still love story in here, but somehow it took the second position in here, or at least seemed to gradualy go from the first position in the beginning of the book to the second by the middle and the end of the book. The main focus became coming war, secret plans of the opponent, and finally the beginning of the war. This one book was darker and heavier in topics covered, in events happening. I liked it how author described war and what it brings to the people involved. I enjoyed finding deep thoughts like these about the war: "like most imagined things that were brought into reality, it was not what any had expected. War... was there any glory to be had in war?"
I found one of the main characters, Skye, somehow less likeable for me this time. Her stubborness and flaws seemed to be more eminent than in first book, and it caused more problems this time. Well, it showed how small actions of her and of other people can create great damage to the others. That I can say was important topic to cover. Maybe I didn't like that so much because it made me think more about my own flaws.
There were some sentences, where it was written a little bit too straightforward, similar like in the first book. I would have liked it given in a little bit more subtle way, to read more between the lines. But I think there wasn't that much of this in this book.
In the end, I enjoyed this story a lot, and I'm interested in next story.
It pains me to say that I enjoyed the first book a lot more than the second. This one had several things that had the tendency to annoy the crap out of me. The characters seemed more immature this time around. I guess the cheesiness bothered me. Their relationship was raw and loving in the first novel and this time it felt fake. I wanted to bash their skulls in. Skye handled some of the situations a bit dramatically, but REALLY Raphael?!? REALLY??? It's like he didn't care at all whether or not she got jealous. Screw being nice. If my boyfriend let girls rub all over him I'd say SEEYA BITCH! I don't know. There were a few good things about this book, hence it getting three stars. I'm just too irritated to think of them at the moment. The fighting wasn't believable. The "bad guys" weren't believable. Their relationship wasn't believable. I DIDN'T GET SUCKED INTO ANNNYYTHHIINNGGG. It was decent enough to keep me reading, but I didn't really care. The ending was probably my favorite part. That cliff hanger left me wanting more, but I don't know if I'll read the next book. If I do, it will be because I care about the characters that were in the first book.
I think that Sarah Brownlee did an interesting and enjoyable work.
Even though it took me a while to finish it (Life got in the way) I really liked and simply enjoyed it. I was done with the first half of the book really quickly but the second half took me a while because of life. I think if I could have read this book on the holidays I would have finished sooner. My classes are taking all my attention this days. But anyway.
I think it was a nice touch that in this book we get to know Raphael's mind. I would say that this book is better than the first but still I have some issues and that's why I'm not giving it five stars. There were parts that I thought weren't necessaries, and the jealousy on Skye's part at the party was a little bit to much in my opinion. And the last complaint I have is that again it felt like ages until we got to the actual war, it took almost half the book for the war to start, and I was expecting a little bit more of action from Skye part.
I think I will have to read the next book to see how everything goes.
*I received an e-copy in exchange for an honest review, but this -in no way- affects my review*
There was no denying that this book was Raphael's, and although Skye was in it a lot, it was mainly about my main man developing and growing in himself. The two mains were so developed in this book and I loved every moment, the action in this book was so gripping. Plenty of it, and it's so fast paced and well explained!
My heart broke in this book in the scene between Raphael and his dad.
ive this on ebook but its been a long time i read first one. and i never read my ebooks ive so many other books on my shelf to read idk if ill ever read this.
How the Tiger Faced His Challenge is part two of Sarah Brownlee's dystopian series. While this book has it's merits I must admit it fell flat for me. I feel like the story in this one was just such a different vibe from the first in some ways it speaks to a different type of reader all together.
While the first novel appealed to me as basically a magical romance novel amid a troubled city fighting to become safe, the second novel focused more on the coming war and the fighting. At the end of the day the author still did a great job presenting her book, but war novels just aren't my thing.
I would still recommend this series to anyone who loves a magical element with a twist of romance and tragedy, just be prepared for mostly war in the second novel.
First off I have to say that I really enjoyed the first book in this series. It made me actually delve into the world of YA that I previously wouldn't go near if it could be helped. Yes the main characters were immature, but it was realistic. I finished that book excited and anxious to get my hands on the sequel. So now I guess I have to explain why the sequel fell flat and disappointed me.
Maybe we should start with Skye and Raphael's relationship. It felt forced, fake and cheesy as hell. It was nothing like the first book. I did not enjoy their relationship, and Skye came off as too immature to be in a relationship at all. I mean some taunting by mean girls got her so enraged she made a public fit and stormed off.
However in her defense if Raphael knew she had such horrendous jealousy and insecurity issues he should not have let Lo Wen rub herself all over him, and let Sasha rub his thigh with her foot. Then Raphael says some utter bullshit about trying to be nice to Lo Wen, and not knowing how to stop Sasha.
It made Skye seem like a real doormat and Raphael just seemed to be able to do no wrong in her eyes.
My next issue is that all the cheesy relationship drama, and Sasha as a character, only existed as a tool to get Skye to storm off on the palace grounds to be kidnapped. Otherwise there was absolutely no need for Lo Wen or Sasha. I feel like Skye's kidnapping could have been facilitated in a much less eye rolling way.
And on to our next issue. When they weren't fighting, which only happened twice, it was like the book was on repeat. We got London history repeated over and over. Which by the way is just ludicrous and not believable in the least. We had the issue of Pearson using innocent people and tricking the Renzo's mentioned so many times it was ridiculous. Each time a character was informed of Pearson's civilian using strategy the WHOLE damn thing was repeated. So basically large portions of the book was just repeated information.
Next up was the fact that Skye and Raphael seemed to be functioning without brains. Skye more so than Raphael. Skye saw how the little beaver cub was created, and then she was kidnapped and the mad scientist took her blood. However our poor challenged Skye could not for the life of her put two and two together when it was right in her face from the beginning of the book. It made me want to scream at them over and over because they were so stupid and clueless. Skye officially reached TSTL status in this book. It made it really difficult to read.
And the final issue I can think of at the moment was the fact that it was ridiculously easy to know who the double agent was. The whole book was so easy to figure out that it made reading it feel pointless. I wasn't excited to read it. I also found my self easily able to put it down and not really care about the characters. Speaking of, some major character development needs to start happening. The characters are falling flat and it's hurting the series.
I really wanted this one to be better than it was. It could have been so much better, and it did have some really wonderful parts that gripped me and gave me hope. However then we went back to flat characters, repetition and Skye being a moron.
I loved the part when Skye got the memory transfer from the beaver. Now that was emotional and gripping. I also enjoyed when she was in the mad scientists custody, and the first fighting scene. The second fighting scene wouldn't have been bad if not for Skye's extreme stupidity screwing it up.
Overall it was just okay and fell flat for me. I was expecting so much more. All the issues I had with the book really prevented me from enjoying it. I am just kind of shocked that I didn't love it.
I must say though that I am still curious as to what they will do next, and will probably read the sequel that is sure to follow.
(I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
In Sarah Brownlee's second book " How the Tiger Faced His Challenge", Skye and Raphael's exciting and gripping story continues as her kidnapping sparks the civil war that's been looming between the Pearson family in East London and the Renzo stronghold in the West. Mysteriously returned and thrown over the wall as Skye heals she tries to reconstruct the puzzle behind her capture while Raphael, his brother Trey and their Chinese allies lead the fight against the Pearson thugs who have not only multiplied in number but have devastated the city. Baffled by Lord Pearson's battle strategy, their suspicions aroused Raphael, his father and brothers begin to believe that he may have a foreign ally on his side and that their imminent victory may be nothing more than a futile hope.
Sarah Brownlee brings to life a London ravaged by a lethal plague that decimated the population. Rebuilt with the assistance of other nations after an economic decline, London's stability was again shattered by riots that left two powerful factions. With weak and corrupt leadership the city in the year 2217 is terrorized by thugs and hooligans as another civil war looms between the Pearson and Renzo families. Into this dark and uncertain atmosphere Sarah skilfully also weaves the history of the "Morphers" who have the ability to change into their spirit animals, and the inception of laws to protect their rights as well as humans from being killed by one of them.
Fast-paced and action-packed the plot heats up when Skye's returned to the Renzo stronghold beaten, her blood extracted as part of a nefarious scheme, and war breaks out bringing death, violence and destruction to the streets of London. Intensity and suspense builds as Raphael and his warriors fighting to protect civilians against the malicious and bloodthirsty hooligans uncover a plot by Lord Pearson to force the city's most vulnerable into fighting in his army. With a fluid writing style, twists and turns that bring death and betrayal to the Renzo's stronghold, events unfold that progress smoothly and quickly to a shocking cliff-hanger at the end.
Enthralling from the first page to the last, the love between Skye and Raphael deepens although she has to continually fight her demons -jealousy, anger, and insecurity- that are instigated by rude, manipulative Sasha and a sly Lo Wen Chan. Only with Raphael's coaxing and support does Skye begin to recognize the depth of his love for her just as he knows that he will sacrifice anything to protect her.
The characters continue to develop in this story as they face a storm that threatens to destroy all they hold dear. Independent Skye Archer caged and beaten after being kidnapped is determined to fight beside Raphael and his family, She's stubborn and defiant as she tries to save a strange young Morpher, but has learned not to be so bull-headed and to listen to Raphael's sound reasoning. Courageous but headstrong Raphael Renzo is a respected and admired leader, bold and fearless in battle. In love with a temperamental white wolf he exudes patience, kindness and understanding which flies in the face of his own hot-temper at times.
Among a host of unforgettable characters that add passion and high-energy to an exciting thrill-ride are Ricardo and Joey Renzo, twin brothers who are wild, and charming but very sharp-witted; Trey Renzo the calm, vigilant diplomat; carefree and trusting Daphne; as well as the compassionate and clever Lord Renzo. Antagonists like the arrogant and controlling Lord Pearson with his devious plan; the cold, sniveling Professor Dragoon; and the cruel brutality of Finn Pearson continue to add a terrifying chill to the plot-line.
I loved" How the Tiger Faced His Challenge" as war rages along the streets of London, and can't wait to read the next book in this fascinating series.
Book: How the Tiger Faced His Challenge Author: Sarah Brownlee Rating: 4 Out of 5 Stars
I would like to thank Sarah Brownlee for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I would like readers to note that this book is a sequel, but it can be read before reading the first book, which is How the Wolf Lost Her Heart. I cannot say if reading both books would have made me give this one a five star rating. I have not read the first book, so I am not going to be comparing the two.
One thing that I really liked about this book was how the world was developed. I loved all of the details and histories that Sarah put into this book, which is probably why it is possible to read book two before book one. I was just drawn into the dystopian world of London. The way that everyone was set up was so logical and just seemed to fit. Normally, I do not like books that go on and on about the history of the world, but this one was done so well.
There also wasn't a lot of the typical science fiction clichés that seem to becoming very common in young adult. There was no competition or anything like that. Plus, we don't have the sense that there was some of an attempt to build an utopia, because there was no law and order before hand. We did have the bloodbath, which was written very, very well. I just simply loved all the action and how the military knowledge was clearly present. I would call Sarah's action scenes close to those of Marie Lu's in the Legend series.
The characters were just okay, which is actually what knocked the rating down. There were so many and they were just not super well rounded. They all just seemed to blend together is what I'm getting at. The female lead, Skye, was really, really weak. She seemed to just whine about everything and always seemed to need the males in the story to save her. She let everyone push her around and did nothing about it. I thought that she would be a lot stronger and was just disappointed with her character. There was the relationships between the characters. They just seemed kind of forced to me. I guess that if I have any suggestions for Sarah, it would be to improve her characters.
Overall, not a bad read. I think that if Sarah would improve on the characters, then this would have gotten a five star rating from me. Nothing in here that I don't find unsuitable for younger teens.
One warning though, there is a cliffhanger and book three is not out yet.
*This book was gifted too me by the author in exchange for an honest review*
I want to start by saying that, in my honest opinion, as evidenced from my 5 star rating, I really, truly, legitimately liked this book!
I often prefer to begin my reviews with 'bad' news first to get it out of the way and so I can end spend more time focusing on the good. This book had very little in the way of 'bad'. I received a PDF version & the formatting was fairly atrocious. I noted what seemed to me to be a few grammatical errors but they were few and could have been a result of difference in syntax between America and the U.K.
The author herself warned me several times that her sophomore book was "darker" than her first effort, How the Wolf Lost Her Heart and she wasn't kidding. Nevertheless, it was still exceptionally good; possibly even better than the first. There were some really disturbing events that occurred involving children, unfortunately so that could potentially really bother numerous people. I wasn't in love with it, myself but I'm not overly sensitive to those types of things either. Still, it's certainly not anything to which I'd aspire.
I know it seems as though I'm only referencing things I didn't like but honestly, I DID greatly enjoy this book...a lot! It was ridicuously un-put-down-able!!! Honestly, my biggest/only complaint is that the next book isn't out yet!
Ok let me start off by saying I don't give away spoilers... So here is my take on this book first off if you haven't read the first book please read before reading this one... Now in the beginning it was a little slow for me to keep an interest it was hard to finish but after that little bump and I'm glad that I finished the book because it got really good I wish we could have seen a little bit more love between our two favorite morphers but you can tell they where meant for each other. Towards the end I balled it was a sad moment so much grief in short time ugh...bring the kleenex. I'm excited because the way it left off tells me that a third book will be written and that things are about to get exciting... I'm excited to see what's going to happen, with all the loss and him having to step up I'm quite curious to see how it turns out and wonder whats going to become of our new Lil Beaver friend? I guess we'll find out.. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series
This book was a great book! Tons of action and suspense through the whole book. I'm hoping for a 3rd book in the series. Sarah did an awesome job bringing the book to life, I highly recommend this book. It's a YA novel and highly addictive .
This book is very good ... well, excellent. I highly recommend it, it would no doubt be enjoyed by many ages of readers... good plot and characters. READ IT Greg
The second installment in the series by Sarah Brownlee did not disappoint me, but did leave me wanton for more. In this installment we find Raph and Skye very much in love, but in the midst of war. This war means to destroy everything they hold dear. I found myself on the edge of my set the entire time, through every twist and turn wondering how everything was going to turn out. How could they possibly make it through all the death and chaos? From the Chinese nephew secretly working for the opposite site to Skye getting kidnapped so that thugs could get transformed into morphers. This story was definitely exhilarating. I can't wait to read the next book. I feel this dystopian novel was very well written and executed.
Great sequel! Love how this starts right where How the Wolf Lost Her Heart stopped. We are back in this dystopian world where war is imminent. Raphael and Skye are officially an item and both are very protective of one another. Things are going back to “normal” but with added security...everwhere. While Skye is at work she encounters another morpher but something about this particular morpher is not quite right. She feels the incredible urge to protect it and doesn’t understand why. This one event spirals into a crazy twist of events that you won’t see coming. In an effort to not give away too much I am going to be very brief. The Chinese Empire has agreed to help the House of Renzo in their effort to keep the thugs at bay. We meet a new character that aides in the kidnapping of Skye (huge plot twist here!) and the war begins (another huge plot twist!). Absolutely a page turner!
“All people knew now was fear. Fear of thugs. Fear of losing their lives to criminals and their vile vices. And, more recently, fear of all-out war. What was there to be proud of now? A broken city, terrorized by hooligans and lowlifes? Pride was alien; fear was a way of life.”
“To acknowledge and accept that to defeat a greater evil meant to go through all manners of evil yourself. For the noble, honourable individual who sacrificed mind, body and soul for the greater good, there was no way out; and for the villain who thrived on misery and prolonging suffering as long as possible, they, too, were trapped, albeit in a different sort of cage.”
“Love was the only dominant force in that magical moment, so powerful that it stopped Time and ordained that war, blood and destruction be nothing more than a forgotten nightmare. This was how it remained, brief in reality yet infinite in memory, until the two fell asleep in each other’s arms.”
I am loving this series! All of the events fall in line perfectly but at the same time keep your own thoughts moving trying to figure out the twists. A must read! The end will make you gasp and make you NEED to know what happens next! Can’t wait for the next book!
Just like before this world built by Sarah Brownlee is exceptional, a dystopian London where there really isn't law or order, thugs rule the streets and the government does very little to step in and protect the citizens from the malevolent individuals. Where prejudice against Morphers runs high and they are either viewed with awe or fear.
This new plotline had some potential, there is a villain about who has been making morphers and testing on humans. Interesting storyline, all of it sounds that way.
Except Skye's self-created drama is tiresome and distracts from the actual premise. I found myself just reading her ridiculous banter again and rolling my eyes. I didn't like Skye before and I certainly don't now. She's a hot-headed, snipping, immature girl who winds up creating all of the drama surrounding her. She comes across as a fourteen-year-old girl.
Add Raphael into the mix, a laid back individual who really ought to set personal boundaries up, regardless of who he is trying to impress, especially since we know how jealous Skye is. In any case, both of their actions were inexcusable and I found myself just rolling my eyes and waiting for something relating to the plot occur.
A lot of rehashing took place, a lot more info dump about the world that maybe didn't have to be there in such long winded paragraphs. So when it came to new news, new plots, there was very little to read regarding that.
There is so much that can be done with this world, so much that can be seen and manipulated, but I feel like Skye and Raphael's insecurities and drama just acted as a big distraction, because the world elements are there, the plot is there, too.
HOLY BOOK READ! Sarah Brownlee did it again! Just when i thought i couldn't fall in love anymore....i did ;) Now i am a little uneasy at the fact this is only a trilogy and not a series because i need a whole lot more of the Renzo's and Skye in my life.
So this book takes place in 2217, London, on brink of a civil war between East (The Pearson family) and West London (The Renzo family). The Renzo family is trying to get back to London's roots and uphold the law and protect its innocent citizens, while the Pearson's family feed upon murder,bloodlust, and all that is evil in this world. There are people called morphers who can morph into their spirit animals which is something that is held in high esteem to some, very frightening by others, and then completely disgust a few. The second instalment of the trilogy takes us to the beginning of the war and the alliances made on both sides, and what is to happen when they finally meet, who will be victorious and who will meet there end......
~~~*SPOILER*~~~~~ Loved the description and history of how London came to be over ran and couldn't help but point out so many similarities between society now and start of society in 2017 in the book and where it went wrong with not punishing and not segregating the thugs. Also i did NOT see the Kai betrayal coming but when it did i semi though cliche` and was mentally saying oh who is going to come save Trey in the knick of time......and when Trey didn't get saved i was mentally bitch smacked and punched in the gut and left breathless. I DID NOT see THAT coming. The good guys always get saved, not usually killed off, great twist but so sad :( excited for the next reads. Amazing work Sarah yet again you deliver such suspense with your captivating writing skills and now i am having a hang over.
How the Tiger Faced His Challenge continues the story of How the Wolf Lost Her Heart which settles in a dystopian London 200 years in the future and in total control of thugs. Or that's what we thought.
We got to know about Raphael Renzo a bit more and also his family and ancestry. We got to fall in love with him in the first book, but in this one we certainly forged our love and admiration for this character. He was really brave, even though he is so young, he had to take the hard choices. Also the secondary characters were able to be more present in the story and their development was amazing.
In this sequel we meet a much darker background, new friends, new enemies and perhaps a few (or rather a lot) of shocking moments. Both parties are playing with almost everything they have and they are getting ready to do their final blow. The real question is, who is going to be the first to do it?
The story's pace is very constant, nothing too rush or too hesitant. There were times where I was truly lost; the author takes you to several roads and deadends. And the twists? You'll never see them coming, which is amazing. The ending is so shocking, you will need a moment to breathe a few times before getting to the last page. I feel the wait is going to be unbearable, I need the next part like, right now!
This book follows on from How The Wolf Lost Her Heart so please read that one before this it is a great read.
Right now to reviewing How The Tiger Faced His Challenge. I don't like being negative but the start was a little slow for me but I am so glad I persevered as momentum picked up more and more as I read in that I could not put the book down.
The book is set in the distant future where London is overrun by crime but there is no police force to speak of.
The Pearson 's are the controlling body of the thugs, directing them to kill, rape and torture and so on. The thugs are given free rain to do as they please. Civil unrest is brewing and the Pearson lot are fuelling this.
The Renzo's are working tirelessly to protect the civilian populace that is left within and surrounding London.
This time the whole of the Renzo family make appearances throughout the whole book. I cannot begin to imagine how one has the mechanisms in their brain to come up with such amazing story lines and the thought put into the central part of the plot is fantastic.
Sarah knows how to captivate your attention and keep you focused oh and have the tissues to hand if you are the least bit weepy.
Had it not been for a slow start and a couple of drawn out areas I would have given the 5. I tried to do 4.5.
Good vs. Evil. Spies. Kidnapping. Mad Scientist. Love. History. Honor. Friends. Betrayal. War. What more could you ask for? This books seems to have it all. It is the year 2217 and Raphael Renzo’s family is on the brink of civil war in the heart of London against Lord Pearson and his gangs of thugs.
Brownlee’s second book, How the Tiger Faced His Challenge continues the dystopian fantasy of Skye Archer and Raphael Renzo. Both are among the few who have the ability to morph into their spirit animal. She a wolf, he a Bengal tiger. Skye’s impulsiveness sets off a series of events that escalates an already explosive tension between the two factions fighting for control of London. Will Good win against Evil, especially when things are not as they seem?
The pace of the book starts off rather slowly, but when it takes off it goes full speed ahead. The plot twists were well placed and unexpected. There was a great deal of immaturity exhibited among the younger characters in the book given their ages. A lot of the thought process was separated out by parenthesis which I found annoying. And, there were a number of timeline inconsistencies.
It was an interesting book, but not such that I could not put it down. While you did not need to read the first book in the series to enjoy this one, you will have to read the next to complete the storyline.
I really loved this one! I'm so happy to see Skye and Raph grow into their own, and the depth of their feelings for each other makes my heart sigh with happiness. I think it is best to have read the first book because it will help you better understand Sky and Raph, and how they became a couple. In this book, Skye and Raph have been dating for awhile, and although Skye has come a long way with her confidence, she still has moments of self-doubt, but she is trying to find her way in Raph's world. It also doesn't help that her wolf is a little bit aggressive. The thugs are continuing to cause problems, and Raph has bodyguards looking after Skye and her mom, but when some power players for the bad side start upping their game, the possibility of a war brewing becomes more and more of a reality. I love that Skye and Raph are Morphers, and I love the scenes when they are in animal form and are together. The depth of love Raph has for Skye is so sweet, and I love how he isn't afraid to show Skye how he feels. I hope in the next book Skye evolves even more, and she shows more of what her wolf is capable of. I loved how involving this story is, and the writing is great, and I find the whole story really unique. There are some very brutal things that happen in this book, and we are left with a cliffhanger, so I definitely need the next book!
It starts right where Book # left off, which make it a good beginning. With that being said, I just going to say that this is a great sequel! However, I don't believe has the amaziness of How the Wolf Lost Her Heart (Book #1). I know this is for YA, but I just dislike the immaturity the characters are showing on this sequel and disrespect Raphael is showing by letting those two makes advances on him right in front of Skye, because the way he's trying to excuse himself is just ridiculous.
In the other hand, the action is not the same as on the previous book, and I understand, but this book seam to go so slow at the beginning and with those immature issues, I almost put the book down, but I'm glad I didn't. Don't take me wrong, I love this book, but Ms Sarah Brownlee is responsible for me wanting much much more from this book. I love her writing style, and the connection she makes me feel with her characters. That's the reason that I probably take it to personal, when Raphael is doing nothing to stop those two girls.
The story is well-written, captivating, intriguing, with lots of twists, and much much more.
I highly recommend this or any books by this amazing author. You're going to love her stories. Me, I can't wait for the next installment. I know is going to be awesome!
Wow. Once I started reading 'How the Tiger Faced His Challenge' I could not put this book down. After I read book one, 'How the Wolf Lost Her Heart', I knew I had to read this book. A great series. The storyline was fantastic. It was full of action, betrayal, awesome Morphers, love, mystery and a pretty creative backstory about the characters and London itself. Set in the future, the descriptive nature that Sarah Brownlee uses to bring her story to life was unique and believable. The war itself brought devastation, terror, lives lost and it left destruction in its wake. The characters were awesome. Skye was a great lead. She's a headstrong woman and a badass wolf. Rafael was also a badass character. Loved his spirit animal the tiger. Plus he's hot as all get out. I look forward to reading more. The cliffhanger left me wanting to pull my hair out... So be warned. A great add to your tbr list. Definitely recommended.
Sarah does it yet again. The second book in this series is yet another thrill ride that keeps you at the edge of your seat. It starts of fairly harmless, but soon you are caught up in a mysterious web that slowly tightens around Skye and Raphael. The pace of this book is spot on and leaves nothing to with for. There are quite a few surprises and loses in this book that got me. This book focuses more on the actual story of the city instead of Skye and Raphael, but of course they are in the center of the happenings.
In the second book the plot thickens seriously and leaves you wondering what will happen next. I really hope that the next book will come out soon since this book is left at quite the cliff hanger.
I can only recommend this book to my fellow lovers of paranormal. I have received this book from the author for an honest review.
The Goodreads author shared a copy of the PDF in exchange for an honest review.
How the Tiger Faced His Challenge begins where How the Wolf Lost Her Heart ends. Sarah Brownlee continues Skye Archer and Raphael Renzo’s journey in futuristic dystopian London, England.
This well-written young adult dystopian series is multi-layered. The author reveals the characters fears, hopes and dreams via their words and actions. Skye and Raphael have integrity and grit. They draw the reader into their challenging word immediately.
The complicated battle scenes visually set the scene. How the Tiger Faced His Challenge is a true page-turner. The twists and turns are shocking and at times painful.
Skye and Raphael’s journey is far from over. Looking forward to the next book in this original series.
I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.
In this one we get to know Raphael a little more and also his background. At a young age he had some hard choices to make and it showed how brave and strong he was. You will fall in love with him even more. We are introduced to new charcaters and enemies and the twists that are this one will throw you for a loop. I really enjoyed this book. The writing is well done and will be kept intrigued for the whole book. The ending will definitely shock you and I can't wait for the next part.
Received a copy in exchange for an honest review, it took a little longer to finish than I had hoped due to my kindle getting damaged.
If you liked the first book then you will love this one. By the end of the book my heart was racing. I'm still tryin to process the ending it was that big of a shock. Really looking forward to finding out what happens to Skye and Raphael in the end.
you cannot end a book like that! It should be illegal. Poor Ralph has lost so much and now his challenge has become greater. I hope Kai dies somehow. And what of Skye, what happened to her. This book left me on the edge of my seat and I can't wait to read the next book and there better be a next book.
