5 "scorched in anger" stars

I devoured this book!
OMFG!

This was a total hit for me, like a drug spurring through my body making me high on speed, intensity, anger, violence that characters were facing with…and yet it was all a smoke screen hiding the inner world of finding yourself, dealing with your inner issues of abandonment, loneliness, self-worth, deprivation of love and degradation of your soul and trying to cope through violence and anger that exists in all of us and is just waiting to surface, to show its ugly face to the world…

there’s only a fine line that can be crossed to awaken the inner beast sleeping in all of us!
Such a powerful book, excellently written, fast paced and not rushed, tempered but so cleverly used vile and cursing as to emphasize the whirwind of that fine line between anger and rage…and spoken about the triggers that set those off throwing the last line of defense into the oblivion…
I’ve read this book in one day, in one take and I want more…

It has every ingredient necessary to make you swoon over alpha male - Ash Fuller – a brooding, cocky, arrogant fighter with a dark past, with anger issues and the triggers that set those off. He comes back after four years of absence to the only place he calls his sanctuary, his haven – The Beat (gym he used to train in for the UFC tournament before everything went the wrong way and he was disqualified) only to be stirred up by the brown eyes of a newbie – the misfit, the girl in search of her father who left her and her mother who was dying of cancer as a fulfillment of her mother’s last wish. She finds more than she wanted, more than she was prepared for, more than she ever believed was possible…she takes risks in the new surroundings, in love, in newly found passion and meaning of self preservation and self-worth…the boldest and the bravest heroine I ever encountered - Renee Miller – Ren/Spitfire/Reign of Terror.

The journey Ash and Ren are taking was just the cover for their own collision as two souls in search for the ultimate meaning, dealing through the most powerful and destructive human emotion - anger, makes their path filled with animalistic passionate love, envious and even more dangerous underground players consume them fully leading them to the inevitable ending…and all that compulsive wild anger call for a one way ticket kind of journey…

But they were destined to be together, they were pulled towards each other even when they were fighting against it and denying it to the extremes, “hating” each other and just waiting for the shit storm to arrive…
And the pull is so strong…

“If I give you this”, he murmured against my mouth.
“If I give you it…if I taste you. I can’t – “
“Can’t what?”
“Let you go.”
“I’m not letting you go either”

His gaze met mine for a split second, and it was full of fire, lust, pain, need and everything all at once

“God”, I cried out.
“No”, he whispered, his lips curving into a grin against my skin. “Ash.”

and there was no going back…

Ash was the flame and I was the moth

they were the unknown territory to each other and although uncertain of the outcome and unaware of the aftermath of their collision only went escalating to the unimaginable depths of one’s inner strength and fears all rolled into a whirlpool of scorching fire of human emotions…

“If I can’t see you at your worst, then who am I really falling for?”
Ash…I want to fall for all of you…

We were so similar in so many different ways…
He was the MOON to my SUN.
He was the EARTH to my SKY.

and yet the end of the road they were heading towards never looked scarier and unpredictable…and it was the ultimate sacrifice

My life for hers

Phenomenal story…

MY RATING ☆☆☆☆ Beat (#1 The Beat and The Pulse) by Amity Cross

☆ Complimentary copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review ☆
~ THANK YOU ~

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I am not ashamed to say that I begged, stalked and was gifted this book from the author, probably just to shut me up lol But imagine my surprise when I saw it on my kindle!! I did the happy dance of all happy dances!!

Six months ago Renee "Ren" Miller's mother passed away from years of battling cancer, leaving Renee alone in the world with a parting wish "Go and find your father, Renee. Find him."

FIGHT TILL THE END (KO)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

ILLEGAL UNDERGROUND FIGHTING

Here's the thing he left when Renee was five years old!! When she turned six, that's the age when he filed for divorce..He left a five year old child to take care of terminally ill mother..WTF!!

RAGE..HEART..REBIRTH

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

JEALOUSY

So the next stage in the story is she hunts this no low life life of a so called father down to a gym he owns called BEAT..And this is where sh*t starts getting interesting..Instead of welcoming her into the fold, he offers her a f*cking storage closet until she gets on her feet..Another WTF moment!!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

RETRIBUTION

"If I was going to be shoved into the storage closet like a dirty little secret, I'd milk Daddy dearest for all he was worth!"

LATE NIGHT SPARRING

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Things start heating up in the story when she grabs a baseball bat to hit over the head of a sexy, muscled, tattooed, heartthrob who goes by the name "Ash Fuller"

And that ending of all endings "I was never in Thailand" third WTF moment!!

REVENGE

If you want to get lost in a kick ass heroine with a no holds bar attitude then you have found the right book!!

I love an Alpha Male, but what I love more is having an alpha female as the love interest. Throw in an underground fighting ring and I'm in book heaven. This is my first time picking up an Amity Cross novel and it won't be my last, I loved the writing voice and the underlying attitude that was fighting to break out of the pages.

Renee 'Ren' Miller is a fighter, in every Sense of the word. At 5 years old her father left, leaving her and her terminally ill mother to fend for themselves. At 22, she's now alone, with her mothers last wish for her to reconnect with her dad. The road ahead is one she never would of dreamed off, for within the walls of Beat, she finds her inner beast.

Ash Fuller has fought his whole life, he's a ticking time bomb just waiting for the fuse to be lit. Disqualified from Pro fighting and off the radar for the last 4 years, he's back walking through the doors of the place he feels most at home, Beat is his solace, a place he feels accepted, but he didn't expect to be greeted by a spitfire with a cricket bat.

 photo ash_zpskxr0xhpr.jpg

Ren and Ash's relationship starts off rocky, sexual tension, conflict and a whole lot of anger are just a few of the issues these two are fighting against. It's becoming harder to stay away from each other though and Ash finds himself turning up to the late night training sessions Ren has after everyone leaves, but when Ash turns up at Beat one night, looking beaten and bruised questions are asked and secrets get revealed.

The Underground is nothing like Ren expected but she's drawn to it, she craves the fight, the release, the power she feels within the walls of the cage, but not everyone's happy with the way she's ploughing through the female contenders, or with Ash's return to the circuit. History's about to repeat itself and it isn't shy of breaking hearts and ruining lives.

I read this in one sitting, I really liked the fast paced, action packed story and with the turn of the last page I knew I'd be diving straight into book 2.

4 stars due to cliffhanger

He was the Moon to my sun

He was the Earth to my Sky

Poetic bullshit but how could you put a label on it

Love Amity's writing the down to earth, say things as it is It was pornstar sex without the soundtrack

Two fiery characters with a lot of pent up anger two fighters by spirit making this an angsty frustrating yet great read.

We were at it like rabbits.

When you get two characters with a lot of emotion and built up anger what you get is a hot and passionate read not many words were said between the two characters but body language said it all.

The synopsis tells you about the plot and what you get is a raw, gritty, fiery read that takes you to the fighting world with great characters all round.

If you like a woman with backbone and an Alpha male, angst and drama, this is for you.

Cliffhanger finish but i'm looking forward to seeing where this goes next as the tables have certainly turned.

Damnit. Here I go again with these.

WHY CAN'T Y'ALL LET ME BEEEE!?!

Well this was a hell of a ride. Seriously. This guy is an animal. I just didn't like how his personality was made in this but it worked for this book. *shrugs* There were some things that irritated me, but the smut. Yeah the smut totally did it for me. It was downright dirty.

This book was epic!

Ren has gone looking for her father as the last dieing wish of her mother. She tracks him down to a boxing studio, where he so generously offers her nowt much more than a store cupboard to sleep in. With no job and no friends, the only thing Ren has is full use of the gym equipment....and boy does she make full use of it. I can picture her body changing into a lean, mean fighting machine. I can see her body getting leaner and stronger as she works out. the author has done a great job of writing such a strong female character.

Enter Ash....he was the star of the boxing studio until he threw it all away and disappeared. We find out right near the end what happened to him. But when he first snuck into the studio to train in secret at night, he didn't realise Ren was staying there! She almost brained him with a cricket bat and from that moment on, their "relationship" was sealed to fate!

Not only is there underground fighting in this book, there's underground women's fighting and that made this book different to all the other fighting books I've read in the past. Ash is fiercely protective of Ren, and she is of him.

Ah but don't forget the villain. In every story, we need a villain. Well in this book we have two to boo and hiss at.

This is a fantastically well written book where you almost need a shower afterwards to wash the blood and sweat off you...the author wrote that graphic of a picture. Brilliant, bloody brilliant book.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3. This started off well. A girl leaves home to find her estranged father after her mother dies. She's angry with her father because he left them, but she really has no other choice. Her father owns a gym that trains MMA fighters and give classes on self defense and MMA fighting. He unenthusiastically (he has a second family) takes her in and gives her a small room to stay in at the gym. She starts taking MMA classes and uses the facilities the gym offers.

A former big time MMA fighter who had brought the gym to prominence but eventually got himself booted out of the MMA league and has now been gone years, shows up again at the gym. He has lots of anger and lots of secrets but he takes it upon himself to help the girl train at the gym. They first form a friendship (although she is panting and drooling everytime she is around him). But he refuses to share his secrets and reasons for his uncontrollable anger. Then a sexual relationship develops but not much develops on the secrets front (other than some down and dirty underground MMA fighting that the girl also gets involved in).

And then, a CLIFFHANGER! Yes, book #2 will be on its way later. We still don't know the answers about our MMA fighter and now he has disappeared, leaving our girl behind. I'm not even sure that we will get the answers to the secrets in book #2 and I hate to say it but I don't know if I care. Sorry.

"Fight Fight Fight" I was sitting here reading and chanting that throughout the majority of this book.

This book was on-going with so much drama, sad back stories, mysterious hot guys who can charm your panties off, b*tch sister, perfect sassy best friend and a bad-ass main chick who I really liked! Ren (Renee) didn't take sh*t from anyone and dished it out to those who gave it to her.

She had just lost her mother to cancer and her mothers dying words were to find her father who abandoned them when she was young to be with his perfect rich model family. Total Ass-hat. She finds her Dad and he owns a boxing ring called 'Beat'. It's there where she meets mysterious, hot, cocky, closed off, anger-driven Ash.

I really enjoyed both our protagonists. They're perfect for each other but also not. They don't exactly bring out the best in each other and don't make each other better. They're two people with a lot of anger and they're on the same path...the path that doesn't go up. But they're each others balm and calm but they're also each others weaknesses.
And they both don't like being weak.
It's an amazing story with humour and drama all round and I really enjoyed it.

Beat had some good parts and... it had some other parts... Most of it was drama involved other was the whole broody vs angsty vibe. I'm not sure which kind of got on my nerves more. After awhile I kind of felt like okay, I get it.
Along with the sweaty panty sexual not so sexual attraction obsession which leads to some hot not so hot encounters and a questionable scene which didn't quite sit well with me. There was a lot of wish wash non investment with the h/h and after awhile I didn't really care if they overcame their issues which - cliffhanger - ugh, never really is answered.
Beat was okay I just don't think I was really in the mood for it.

This is one of those books that grabs you from the first few sentences and does not let go until the end.

description

Ren Miller was an incredibly strong heroine and not just on the ring. You engage and sympathize with her from the beginning. All the pain she goes through, the underlying need to belong but ultimately feeling shunned was beautifully written.
I didn't find any of her reactions unreasonable or annoying. I felt the rage she had towards her dad and shared it with her. Really, what a douchebag.

description

Then we have Ash Fuller. Ultimate bad boy. Complete mystery. Sparks are flying and they antagonise each other on first sight. The banter between them was delicious! I loved the chemistry these two had. I wont explain more as I'd have to add numerous spoilers.

description

The sexy times were epic and the twists and turns kept me guessing how it will all end and then came the cliffhanger. Now I have to wait for the next book and I'm so hoping it wont be a trilogy! All in all a superb read by a talented writer that you shouldn't miss!

Male and Female. Fighters. Both Alphas. Hot damn.

I'm not a lover of fighter books, honestly I stay away from them for the most part. But I read the blurb of Beat and wanted to try it out. Shit. Ass. Fuck. I'm so glad I decided to try it out. I loved this book!

 photo beat1.jpg

Ren takes no shit after she starts training at Beat. Ash has demons he won't let known. These two mixed together, holy alphaness. They never out did each other though and you didn't feel like they were fighting for it either. Ash is HOT even with his demons. He may take protecting the people he loves a little far but I can see why he does it. Ren, I'm totally jealous of her badassness. Don't mess with that woman.

I cannot wait to read Pulse. Get to writing Amity I gotta know what happens between these two and what's going to happen after the incident.

THAT WAS... EPIC.

This story hit a little too close to home, I have daddy issues as well and Ren and I have been in the same boat, but I have yet to have my first encounter with my dad like Ren did, I just hope I'll do it as well as she did. I loved Ren. She is what every female lead should be. She's strong, beautiful, unafraid, and so confident. She went through so much, and she.. I'm amazed by her.
AMITY CROSS. YOU DID GOOD.

I couldn't stop reading even if I tried.. 270 pages just didn't seem like enough! I loved the instant attraction Ash and Ren had and the fact that they pushed each other's buttons and didn't just instantly fuck like rabbits. They got to know each other, and at some point even hated each other. loved it

Two fighters. Two lovers. Two alphas. Two Beasts.

Ren has only known one thing. Survival. She fought her entire life to help her mom through her terminal illness. Forced by her mother's last wish, Ren goes looking for the father that abandoned her and her mom when she was five. She end's up at her father's boxing ring. Drawn into the allure of fighting. She's badass and takes zero crap from anyone. Including the one guy that slowly pulls out something in her that she didn't know existed.

Ash was at the top of his game when he was disqualified from the Pros. After being gone for four years, he has returned. Everyone said he was a beast. He can't get Ren out of his head.

Ash and Ren just click. They understand each other and Ash brings out the hidden beast in Ren.

I really enjoyed this book. Talk about two badass main characters. I loved that Ren doesn't take shit from anyone and she never backs down. Ash...well Ash is just all alpha male protecting his alpha female. Who doesn't want that? I can't wait to read the next book.

** SHANYN'S 3 STAR REVIEW **

This is book 1 in the series, and you are left in a cliffhanger, just to be warned.

After reading the synopsis, I was really excited for this book. I love fighter books!!

Ren is a girl who has been left behind by her father, when she was 5 years old. She was left to take care of her dying mother, all alone. When her mother does pass away, her last request is for Ren to go find her father.

“Six months ago, my Mum died. Six months ago, I was left totally alone in the world. I worked my whole life to care for my beautiful, optimistic, cancer riddled mother when everyone else had just upped and left us like it was all just a little too hard.”

When she does find her father, it is at “Beat” training gym. Her father is the owner. He sets her up in a storage room, since she has no where to go, and his new family doesn’t want to know about her. Ren tries to make the best of the situation, by using his gym after dark to learn to fight. When Ash, her father’s prize fighter, shows back up after years away, Ren’s life is thrown off course.

Ash and Ren do not hit it off well. They bicker constantly, and avoid each other as much as they can. Ren is completely attracted to him, but is fighting it….she doesn’t need another person to abandon her. When Ash finds Ren training after hours, he decides to help her. But, he throws her mixed signals, and leaves Ren feeling unwanted.

“Just by being here I was hurting her because I knew she was attracted to me, but what she didn’t know was that I was attracted to her. I didn’t just want to f*** her, I wanted to know her and that was a mind f*** in itself. Nothing good would come out of that.”

Every night Ash trains alone with Ren, but during the day he flirts with her b****y half- sister, who can’t stand her. He sleeps in Ren’s bed after each training, but only holds her, and is gone before she wakes in the morning. Just when Ren has had enough, things change, and he kisses her. Slowly things begin to change, and Ren and Ash start a relationship. The people who look out for Ren are worried that he will hurt her. Ash has a dark side, and sometimes can’t control his “beast” side.

“You could say getting to know Ren had sparked something in my dead heart, or I could’ve just grown the f*** up over the past four years. Who knew?”

Even though they started a relationship, Ash always disappears for a few hours every night, before coming back to train with Ren alone. When Ren finally gets Ash to tell her more, and come clean, she learns he is fighting at Underground fights. Ash doesn’t want her to be a part of that world, but Ren needs an outlet for her aggression, and fighting in a cage might just be the answer. Seems Ren and Ash are similar in their need to fight out their problems. But, diving into the Underground world, especially when your boyfriend is the champion, could be scary and harmful. Especially when people want to take him down, and will use anyone to get to him. When Ren is threatened, will Ash stick around, or will he leave?

I enjoyed the idea of this story, and all the different characters. Ren is a girl you want to believe in. I felt some story lines were a little flat, but definitely a good read, and can’t wait for book two.

This is the first MMA book I've read where not only the hero is a fighter but the heroine is too. She is life hardened and I love that she doesn't turn into a sappy mess as soon as she falls for the hero like what happens in so many books. She holds on to her pain and, and doesn't forgive easily but she uses that energy to make herself stronger and I loved that.
This is my first book by Amity Cross and I will definitely be reading more from her in the future.

🤢 I know you can write a fighter book (or musician etc) without them being a douche canoe so why would you write a thoroughly unlikable character as a romantic hero? I'm so over this false equivalence between alpha male and piece of shit. Fuck this dude and the trash way he treats the heroine the two scenes I managed to choke my way through
Another one to delete off my nook as a dnf

I picked up Beat when it was on sale recently, and I am so glad that I did! It’s been a while since I’ve read a fighter book and Beat got me out of a bit of a lull that I was going through. It was a fast paced read that I devoured quickly as I fell head first into the MMA world and the developing relationship between Ren and Ash.

Ren finds herself at Beat, a boxing studio that her father owns, because her mother’s final wish was for her to track him down. My heart broke for her knowing what she went through and she was treated rather poorly by her father. She did manage to make some friends, the meathead twins in the gym, as well as Josie and the local coffee guy Seth. When an intruder enters the gym after hours, and Ren tries to take him out with a cricket bat, she finally comes face to face with Ash; the former star fighter that used to frequent the gym. Ren and Ash bicker constantly, and appear to dislike one another, but the sexual tension was heavy between them.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Beat! Ren was at a low point in her life and was able to find a purpose again by training and learning to fight. I loved that she was so passionate about it that she would practice after everyone had left. Ash started to come back after hours too and gave her tips, but he was drawn to her more than he led on.

The relationship between Ren and Ash was strained in the beginning; Ash was trying to deny his feelings and kept pushing Ren away, but they couldn’t stay apart forever. Ash liked to be in control and was very possessive of Ren, he didn’t want to let her into his world and he would destroy anyone who threatened to hurt her. When these two got together, it was scorching hawt! All their pent up sexual frustration exploded all over the pages and I couldn’t get enough! Ren was also able to calm the beast and anger that Ash has running through him, unlike anyone else.

This is the first book that I have read by Amity Cross, and I loved the way she sucked me into her world! Beat was actually set in Melbourne, Australia and I have been to some of the areas mentioned and I felt a connection to the story that way. She created characters that are flawed but are passionate about fighting and one another. The ending was a killer though… I need to get the next book to continue the story!

If you like edgy stories that have tattooed men mma fighting and more hot men. This will be the book for you. There is a love story in the pages also. Renee, Ren Miller. Is on the hunt for her father. The man who abandoned her when she was five years old. To look after her cancer ridden mother. She didn't get a chance at having a normal life. She used all energy to take care of her and she never had the chance to have a normal life. After her mother dies Ren goes on the hunt to find the man that left her. She wanted to meet him and remind him of what he did. Tracking him down and finds him training mma fighters in a gym he owns. Her father takes her in lets her stay at the gym in the stock room. Ren becomes friend with the guys working out and makes and enemy with her step sister. Things were going good she is taking classes working out all her frustration about her dad not caring and the loss of her mother. She works out hard and kicks ass with the guys

Until the day Ash walks into the gym. The cocky MMA fighter that is her dad's prized guy. She is digusted and yet intrigued with him all at the same time. As they work out and finally give in to their desires . Things explode and all hell breaks loose. Will things ever be the same after all that happens . Will they survive the out come

This is the first book I have read from Amity Cross. What a book to begin with. She takes us on a thrill ride. She takes us from the pits of hell back up again, the characters are broken but lovable. The relationship between the two main characters is a strange one but it works. They need each other and in a strange way they do love each other. There are just too many things that are going against them.

The whole cast of characters are great.

The whole aspect of the fighting ring is true to the story line but it doesn't monopolize every page. The only thing that bugged me about the book is that it ended in a big and I mean big cliff hanger. She left a big question mark about what is going to happen . So now I have to wait to pulse to see if everything works out . So if you want to read a good dark story with hot mma fighters and a twisted love story. Check it out .

Let me first say I liked this book despite the fact that it has a cliffhanger and no HEA. I did not know this until I finished the book and while I am not happy I definitely enjoyed the book.

Renee Miller or Ren's mother dies after years of fighting cancer. On her deathbed she tells Ren to go find her father who abandoned her when she was five (jerk)). She doesn't really want to but she honors her mothers request. She finds her father who owns a gym called The Beat and he welcomes Ren into his life by hiding her in a storage room at the gym so she does upset his current wife and spoiled daughter (total douchebag). Trying to make the best of situation she begins to train at the gym. This where she meets Ash Fuller, the simply delicious, tattooed former MMA fighter who had been disqualified years earlier and disappeared. He has returned to the gym he used to train at and the sparks fly immediately. Ash and Ren fight like cats and dogs but there is an underlying sexual tension. Ash keeps resisting it and pushing Ren away for her own good but finally gives in. The sex is HAWT!!!!!! Ash then introduces Ren to his other life as an illegal underground fighter for money. Instead of being turned off, she gets the fighting bug and starts fighting in the women's league against Ash's wishes. He reluctantly gives in and that is the beginning of his downfall. The book ends with brutal fight, a blitz attack and Ash disappearing.

This book was really good. Kick ass heroine, sexy fighter hero, family drama and gritty fight scenes. I am looking forward to the next book which hopefully will have my HEA.

Didn't finish after page 55. This book has way too many romance novel cliches that drive me crazy. For starters, I hate when authors make the lead female bitchy, uptight, and rude in an attempt to make her seem tough or badass. It's so annoying! I see it all the time. Are authors really that unimaginative that they don't know any other way to portray a tough girl other than to make her just be angry and snippy all the time?! Like when she first meets the love interest, ash, she treats him like he murdered her puppy or something. She hates him immediately and makes it known to him at every interaction. Yeah he's cocky and a little obnoxious toward her when they first meet but nothing to justify her being so rude all the time. Another common cliche that annoys me is when the love interests constantly try to talk themselves out of liking/going after the love interest. Now I can appreciate this scenario as a plot conflict to a point. But it has to be done with a lot more finesse than this author was able to do. Another cliche I hate is when the guy is "uncharacteristically" more interested in the girl more than any other girl ever after only having just met her. Especially when the girl has a personality about as fun as a bag of bricks. Why can't the author have the girl do things to make me see why the guy would think she was unique and different. And soooooo many authors do all of these exact same things I just do. Not. Get. It!!! Everything out of all of the characters mouths are so expected and obvious. I like when characters are more unique and respond to stuff in a way you wouldn't always expect.

WOW!!! Did I really just sit and read this from beginning to end non stop? FUCK YES! (Sorry)

This book has it all. It's so well written and so freaking entertaining. I loved everything about this story. I was totally sucked in from beginning to end. This story has it all. And I mean all!! I can't stop thinking about the characters. Every single character played an important part in this story and I loved that.

I totally loved how Ren was a kick ass girl character. She wasn't weak and boring. She was amazing and I loved how strong her character was even after everything that life has thrown her way. She found strength in herself to do what she wanted and how she wanted. Jesus especially when it came down to ASH! God oh mighty that man was HOT AND SEXY!!! His got this crazy sexy attitude I just couldn't hate him when he did or said something mean. Yes he has his own issues but God I'll take him with all those issues and more lol. Yes, his total alpha and possessive and guess what I love that! Let's not forget those sex scenes WOW! Amity you totally out did yourself with that scene on the mat!!
