Kane “Rebel” Sturgess is the newest fighter at The Underground, an illegal cage fighting racket that’s bad news…and big money. He’s set to make his fortune with the only thing he’s ever been good at. Fighting dirty.
He’s got no job, no family, no ties and this is his ticket to an easier life. Winning a Championship in this place could mean better and more honest things for a guy like him.
Enter Charlotte “Charlie” Croft, undercover detective with the Victoria Police, tasked with bringing an end to The Underground. She’s got her work cut out for her considering most of her fellow cops are taking bribes on the side from the ringleaders. The only chance she’s got is if she heads in undercover and immerses herself in the life. She needs to get close to her targets, collect evidence and pounce…all without being found out.
What she doesn’t expect is to fall for one of the fighters. A handsome, dangerous, bad boy with a rap sheet longer than War and Peace. A fighter who goes by the name Rebel.
There’s only one thing he’s interested in cracking, and it isn’t The Underground. It puts Charlie in an impossible position and she’s got to make a choice before she winds up in a body bag.
Her heart or her career. She can’t have both…or can she?

This is book 4.5 in the Beat and the Pulse series. You don't need to read the other before reading this. It is a quick, fast read.

We actually meet two new characters in this book, Rebel and Charlotte (or Charlie).

Rebel is in the run for The Undergrounds championship. He is only doing it for this season, he needs the money so that he can make something with his life. He's been in trouble before, grew up in foster homes. He is cocky and I loved it!

Charlotte is a detective. She's young, but her career has kind of stalled. She gets the idea of her taking The Underground down. But then she meets Rebel and things go off like fireworks.

I love both of these characters and their story. I want more from them!!

*** "Rebel" (A Men of the Underground Novella) by Amity Cross

Also part of the "Serve and Protect Anthology"

While the beginning was a little slow going, the novella of Rebel and Charlie's story picked up rather quickly and never let the reader go until the end. The ending seemed to be cut off at what seemed like an odd point or perhaps an odd manner wording wise. Either way, it felt not quite done.

Otherwise, this was an enjoyable story. I did really like Charlie and Rebel. They were both very strong characters and well matched. The story line was interesting but not as strong as it could have been.

All in all this is a perfect weekend, rainy day, beach day or snowy day read.

Another Hot and Sexy Story

This is a much shorter story; however, it doesn't stop it from being another hot and sexy story. I never would had thought a MMA underground fighter and a cop could make it as a couple, Ms. Cross pulled it off. Very cool.

Good

I'm not really into novellas, which is why I gave this 4 stars. BUT it was incredibly good for a novella. I liked both characters and the story line, I was just disappointed it ended so soon!

Really well written. I didn't suffer a single moment of boredom or detail related lag, which happens way to often for me. Every page kept me engaged (in my mind that is the best compliment you can give any book). Will be following this author.

This was a nice short sexy romance. This was the first book in this series that I've read, and I can't wait to read the rest of this series! I really enjoyed it.
