CEO Pierce Hardwick is testing a cure for lycanthropy. Jaycee Frost, witch and executive assistant, wants to help. But she can’t risk getting too close to her irresistible boss. Ever since that one hot night they shared in the break room—the night before Jaycee realized Pierce would be her new employer—Jaycee has been struggling with her entirely unprofessional attraction toward him. Then Jaycee receives a magical tarot card, and the message is destiny has plans for her. No matter that Jaycee only wants to achieve professional domination with Hardwick Medical Research. She’s got a bigger job. And that job might have to do with mating to Pierce Hardwick…
Hi everyone! My name is Sara, and I write urban fantasy and paranormal novels as SM Reine. I collect swords, cat hair, and typewriters (which I do use for writing!). It's a good day when those three things have nothing to do with each other.
If you would like to know the instant my next book is available, you should enlist in my Army of Evil! We have a wicked cool secret handshake, but you'll have to sign up to learn it. ;) Check it out -- http://smarturl.it/armyofevil
I still don't like JC~ She's stuck-up, quick to judge people, and a pain in the ass character. She ranks high for my most disliked S.M. Reine character to date and I've read a heck of a lot more S.M. Reine book since I read this the first time.
4/22 These books seem to read faster than the other books/series that Reine writes, but I will happily devour them all anyway. They’re more about romance and sexy times rather than the gut-wrenching, emotion scrambling of some of her other books/series I don’t have much to talk about concerning this book, but will say that I reallllly didn’t like Jaycee. Creating realistic characters is a skill of Reine’s and it shows, at least, for me very well in this book. Her assumptions about Rage, the other tarot witches, and werewolves were very ... snobby? Haughty? B*tchy? I’m curious to see what will happen with the Sidhe and the other tarot witches ... so far each witch has been the total opposite of another, for instance look at Ophelia, then Leah, then JC ... the only thing they have in common is that they are female and witches.
One thing I am IN AWE OF with the interconnected series S.M. Reine is giving us is getting to see how events played out to bring things to the point they are later in the series. Serieses? Down the line. I knew how Ofelia fit in (although not how she'd reach that point), but I couldn't figure out Jaycee. I had it in my head I'd heard her name before and it was bugging me something fierce.
Then a big thing happens late in this book and things sort of clicked in place in my head and OMG! S.M. Reine is a mad genius, my friends. A MAD GENIUS. I imagine she's steepling her fingers right now and cackling diabolically as she thinks up more mad plots and shenanigans to throw her characters into.
Mad genius.
*ahem* So. Let's take a look at this book, shall we?
Frankly, Jaycee is the very epitome of repressed at the beginning of this book. She's rebuffing Pierce's advances and trying to pretend her panties don't spontaneously combust whenever he's within eyeshot. She's judgy and close-minded and Pierce wants her anyway.
Then things get crazy. Wolves. Magic. Packs who aren't very nice. Ladies getting turned on by thinking about a biker dogpile (heh. Literally. Because, you know, they're wolves.) on top of her. And one really big thing that sets up so much awesomeness you won't get to see until later. Oh, and a lady orgy. What? Witches need love, too. More than most, it seems.
This was about a 3.5 for me because while I personally didn't want to worship this installment, it made me appreciate how different all of the leading ladies in the series are. I thought the second half of the book was a little chaotic and lacked the smooth transition I enjoy, but it kept me entertained. One thing I noticed is that the more I read these kind of books, the more I come to expect difficult characters who all have their own thoughts and opinions. It's a weird feeling to read a person's perspective and see beloved characters through their eyes. You probably won't like it when they insult them, but it gives everyone a new level of depth that kind of just surprises you at the end.
The timing was a bit off, some things lagged while other scenes were rushed. I did like where Reine was going with this, and I'm curious to see what the fourth installment will bring. I can't whole-heartedly recommend this with the same enthusiasm I do the others, but I will say that Jaycee left an amazing first impression. I internally fought with her, I felt let down when she chose the things she did, I had a strange, sadistic sense of satisfaction when she dealt with the consequences of her stubborn decisions... the whole thing in general was weird, but the ending alone was cool. I feel like I'm doing someone a disservice by not recommending this, so I will say that you will like this if you enjoy reading about career women who are aggressive and don't do nonsense.
I received a free copy of this book on my Kindle from the author in exchange of a review. This was a really quick read and connects with her other book series. This series is definitely a lot more steamy than her others. I enjoyed this one a lot more than the other one I read in this series.
Jaycee Frost is the executive assistant to Pierce Hardwick. She prides herself on her job title and how well she is able to perform her job. She doesn’t let anything stop her, she is fierce and determined to keep her rank and resist her boss even though the chemistry between them is palpable. She refuses to do anything that could potentially get in the way of her career. She knows they both have feelings towards each other but she refuses to act on them. One morning she comes into work and realizes Pierce has beat her to the office and is already involved in what looks to be an intense meeting. That same day she receives the Tarot card and she automatically disregards it as a prank and nothing more therefore she trashes it without a second thought. After Pierce emerges from the meeting and she realizes it’s Rage with whom he met she thinks she knows immediately who sent her the card. She still disregards it and moves on with life as she normally would. Then Pierce throws an impromptu trip on her to Rage’s mansion and she has no choice but to follow. Her pride not allowing Pierce to go without her since he needs her help.
They must find a cure for lycanthropy to help Rage’s friends. But what happens when the stakes are raised and the only choice is to answer the Tarot card’s calling and do what is needed of her? Will she continue to be too prideful to do what destiny is calling her to do? Or will she succumb to her destiny and give up her control and allow fate to take over?
This book had more angst than the prior two. I was so throttled by Jaycee’s stubbornness! I couldn’t take it at some points. But it just made the book that much better. It kept me on my toes wonder how everything was going to play out. And then when everything climaxed, well everything freakin CLIMAXED! It was intense and heart wrenching and exciting and just whoa. This book is a must read! (This whole series is a must read!!) 5 freakin gold shining brighter than the sun, diamond studded stars!!
Another book in this series. I quite liked this one! Jaycee Frost is already a witch in this book, although she does not practise her skills very often. She is more interested in her job and career and being close to her lust worthy boss, but one she daren't get involved with as her job is just too important to her and she definitely doesn't want to be another notch on his bedpost (again!)
When Pierce offers his medical research company's services to help out the werewolves, Graham and Donne by finding a cure, we are reintroduced to the other Tarot witches from the previous books and their mates and friends. It was great to see the interaction between all the people from very different backgrounds. Jaycee was very judgmental in my opinion and thought very highly of herself and her fabulous Jimmy Choos (Or were they Manolo Blahniks?). Not a fan of her either to be honest (I wasn't particularly keen on Leah in the last book!) Of course things take a turn for the worse and soon the race is on to find that cure a bit quicker!
As expected the relationship between Jaycee and Pierce quickly develops and she finally realises that she cannot hide her feelings anymore and once she lost the ice cold facade, she actually became more likeable. The twist of the Winter Court was interesting and it will be great to see how this pans out in the next book in this collection!
What wonderful story and a major improvement over book 2 (Forbidden Witches) of the series. Jaycee Frost is a strong, determined, structured and professional lady! She has her rules, her opinions, her standards and she follows them to a "T". She is an executive secretary to a Pierce Hardwick and she unknowingly is also a witch. The strange tarot card arrived for her and she had no clue why. Trying to throw it away proved disappointingly impossible. This story once more involves witches, humans and werewolves and motorcycle gangs. Characters from the previous two books showed up, including Rage, Cooper, Donne, Ofelia, Leah, Graham and Mad Dog. The story moves smoothly with Pierce and Jaycee trying to create a cure for Lycanthropy. Tarot Witches magic, a visit from from a sidhe Winter Queen, a werewolf gang and the entwining of three witches during a spell casting created all sorts of havoc, sexual situations, disappointment and in the end true love. Overall it was a great addition to the Tarot Witches series. Thank you SM Reine ! Kathy Barber Doyle- 3/27/2018
After I didn't like book 2, I was pleasantly surprised that this time, tarot witch Jaycee was more the kind of girl I like. She was tough, self-confident and knew what she wanted. And sex with her boss wasn't the top of her list. Even though she craved it, she put her career first. Ok, she was a bit snobby and arrogant but I wouldn't have expected anything else from such a character. Only halfway through I was loosing my patience a bit about her permanent rejection of Pierce even in dear situations where mating didn't sound too terrible. But not only the character(s) were better, also the story. I loved the fact, that all from previous books came together and a dangerous situation was created. It wasn't just all about sex, although there were hot and steamy scenes too. We also learned more about the whole magic behind it and I wonder how everything will come together in the next and final book of the series.
This is where, I feel. The series really started to go downhill. There was a good commitment to the internal voice of Jaycee, keeping her hauteur & her prejudices consistent throughout. Unfortunately, it made things frustrating as it didn’t seem like Jaycee was growing or learning at all.
Were there POC? Only Secondary characters; most prominent being the MCs from Book 1
Were there Queer/GLITTFAB characters? Explicitly!
Would I re-read? Possibly. Jaycee annoyed me, so if I were doing the series again, I might, but it’s certainly one I won’t be eagerly anticipating.
Was it worth my time? I’m undecided here. The sex wasn’t as good, the characters were more infuriating, the point was less clear.
Would I recommend? With caveats, to someone already looking at the series.
Not my favorite of the series. Felt disjointed as a whole, and rushed near the end. Jaycee is very unlikeable (in my opinion), she's judgemental, and nitpicking constantly. Disliking her, sucked some of the life out of the read for me, contrarily making the other characters (the witches especially) stand out and shine. As always, well written, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't already a page into the next book.
Though this story is in general just as good as the first two, I found it harder to get into Jaycee than either Ophelia or Leah. Even when she has her path staring her in the face and she KNOWS what she should do, she refuses because it's not how she envisions things. Girl needs to get her nose out of the clouds, or she's going to drown in the next rainstorm. (She's a stuck up B). Other than that, just as good as the first two, looking forward to the last.
It was ok.
Winter Court: A Paranormal Romance (Tarot Witches Book 3)
The story of Pierce and Jaycee. Pierce and Jaycee are medical reaches who are looking for a cure for werewolf. They meet up with Cooper, Ofelia, Leah, Donne and a coven of witches. With they help can Pierce and Jaycee find a cure? You love this story.
Wow, I love this series. Nice plots and the twists and turns.......can't wait to start the next book. This is an adventurous adventure. One thing though, that JC was a bitch to the end and he still wanted to marry her. Lucky her.
Well now the books seem to involve each other the story took a turn I don't understand. Not to say I didn't enjoy the book but I feel like it wasn't necessary, or didn't make sense. Maybe there was a mother way, an easier way. Im just confused.
Dang it, I really liked Mad Dog in the first book. Desperation makes a wolf an ass, I guess. This book is very adult. Lesbian orgy just one of the reasons. But, it's well written and enjoyable. Not a bit fan of Jaycee, Ofelia is still my fave.
The third part of the Tarot Witches took a while to get started, however once the action mystery and romance began it never stopped Highly recommended for everyone who is a fan of good paranormal books
This is the only ⭐⭐⭐ in the series for me. Maybe, because the h has finally some self-respect and approaches the whole sex magic thing gradually, and because the H is treated as an individual, a nice man for once, even intelligent, not a living, breathing, giant walking dildo!
This third book of the Tarot Witches series was okay, but just okay. Yes, we get a furthering of the overall storyline, we see some familiar characters from the previous books, and we learn the stories of some new characters, but I just found this book just okay.
The character development and descriptions are well written. The story intertwines and wraps neatly together with the other books in the series. There was a nice unexpected twist and a lot of spice that tied everything together perfectly.
Two was better than the first, and this one better than both. Less sexual stuff and more action and mystical things. This one was really good I thought.
