Transforming from woman to wolf can be deadly… Locked in her cell and surrounded by guards, Mia fights the wolf who’s eager to claim her body and her mind. When a guard panics and leaves her cell door open, she does the only thing she knows - run. Hunted by the only pack she's ever known and the beast inside Mia will need to fight. Will two unlikely Alphas show her that pain and pleasure can be two sides of the same coin? Or will she become the werewolf she’s meant to be?
I have been an avid reader for longer than I can remember, desiring the darker, edgier works of Bram Stoker, Stephen King, Dean Koontz. I first started writing in High School giving that away when my first attempt was nothing more than dribble. I wish now that I kept at it, pursued it with a hunger that I currently possess.
Writing is my passion, it is what fuels the fires inside of me and it is an all-or-nothing furnace that keeps me up at all hours.
I am married to a wonderful supportive husband, I have 2 wonderful kids and the best friends that I have waited some 35 odd years to meet.
This starts out with crazy action and doesn't stop til the end leaving you wanting more. Transforming from woman to wolf is the scariest thing while being caged for Mia after watching everyone she's ever known fail the change. When she is finally able to escape and is taken in by two men, things change in all sorts of ways. Kim Faulks did an amazing job with her characters and bringing this book to life. I can't wait to find out more.
one by one she saw her fellow cell mates die when they were fighting against the change. the same was happening to her, it was taking everything she had to fight the animal lurking inside her mind and body. she didn’t want to give in. in the sell next to her, the young woman was battling the same “demon”. she wanted to be strong for both of them and she was sure they would succeed in fighting of the “demon” inside. that wasn’t counting on the guards, they want the change! being warned of she refused to listen. not to the guards, not to the animal within. however she did listen to the other woman fighting in the cell next to her. when the guards enter the cell next to her it becomes clear her cell hasn’t been locked and her animal urges her to run, to escape. one moment she hesitates but then she chooses freedom. she’ll fight for her freedom.
whether she gets out or not i’m not telling, ha! you’ll have to pick up this prequel. it’s a fast paced story that tells of the struggles inside a person, the battle with another being inside of you. the taste of freedom and the desire to stay that way, betrayal for it being taken away again. there is little that isn’t covered in the short introduction to a new series.
What happens when the world as as you know it, has been behind bars in a cell, not the normal jailbird type, but the scientific kind. One you were born into. And then you are tested and injected with all type of drugs to see what they can turn you into, not just a mere human, but a wolf shifter.
There are 10 of them there and only 1 left who hasn't gone through the change. They rest have all died. There is only Mia left and her goal is to escape. She can feel the wolf within her but is fighting it, she doesn't want to die.
Escaped and on the run, Mia runs into 2 men who turn out to be wolf shifters themselves. One will be gentle, the other dangerous. But what will happened when Mia finally let's go and lets the wolf out?
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I'm not sure what to say about this book. Although it is a short read and the first in the series, I was kind of lost as to what was going on. I felt like the story dragged on and couldn't get into it. It would have been nice to know the background of the characters and how they came to be in the story.
Savage is a Prequle for a new Dark Shifter series “Underground Kings.” This is my first book by Kim Faulks. As I started to read the book, It was not to my liking and I almost quit. But I didn't and I'm glad once I got past the first parts of the book that I didn't like (based on my preferences only.) This is also my first Dark Paranormal of any kind. So it was quite different.
The story-line flowed and was well written. The plot was thick. The characters were well developed and their personalities fit well within the story.
Mia had been raised in the cell of the Carlson Corpration from birth. At this point Mia was close to beginning her first transformation into a wolf-shifter. There were 10 women in this study group of experiments and 8 women had aready died trying to transform.
That left Mia and her sister Sasha. Sasha was already in the threws of transformation. Mia telling her the entire time to push her wolf back. There was a terrible comotion in Shashas cell, when Mia looked it was horifying.
This however gave Mia a chance to run and Sasha kept telling her to run and get away. Sasha's voice echoed in my head telling me to run, run no matter what. Even though I knew she was dead
Mia and her wolf were at odds. Mia refused to shift and her wolf was willing to kill them both. As Mia found it harder to run, the dogs and guards were getting closer. When they reached Mia she fought with all she had. She was hurt, she was tired; they were going to take her back to the cell where she would die like the 8 other women and her sister.
Did they get her back to the cell? Pick up a copy and read about allof the violence and passion I left out! Even though this story-line was not to my tastes. I have to know what happens to Mia so I will be picking up book 1 of the series.

Warning: Contains MFM romance and themes."
My Review: It has been quite a while since I read shifter romance. I must say that while the title is obvious, I was still surprised by how savage the book really was. One of the things I often complain about with shifter books is that the characters are too human but this one did not disappoint in that aspect, the animalistic nature took over throughout the storyline. This was a short read so you don't get a lot of backstory or character development but you do get a great idea about how this series might develop and what the world around the characters may look like. I also like how while the intimate scenes moved the storyline along, they also didn't take over. It was definitely an interesting start to a series.
Wow! This short tale is full of darkness, loss, betrayal and so much more. A little difficult to follow at times, especially at the beginning, but once you start to put the pieces all together, it becomes what I believe, will be the beginning of awesome series that we will not only look forward to reading, but will crave it. As with all prequels, don't be surprised when you are left hanging at the end, as we have only been introduced to the darkness that is the existence of Mia, a female wolf shifter raised in a laboratory along with nine other females, of which she is the lone survivor. She has yet to shift, and when she finally escapes, is saved by Drake and Coen, only to be forced into the tumultuous shift that could kill her, as it has all of the others, including her twin sister. Will she survive? What do they have in store for her? So many questions, and as we ponder on them, we wait for the next episode in the saga. If you like your paranormal a bit on the dark side, you won't want to miss this one. Check it out!
“The wolf paced my walls. The wolf paced inside me. Watching, waiting for an unguarded moment where she could seize control. Her growl tore through my head. No matter how hard I tried to block her out, I felt her power.”
Stuck in a cell of the Carlson Corporation, Mia’s first change is upon her. All that have changed before her have died. She is terrified. She feels the wolf under her skin, telling her to fight, to run. Mia manages to escape, with the guards chasing close on her heels.
The chase. The fight. The struggle to survive as she closes her eyes to give up. The smell of wolf, scent of the alpha. Strong arms cradling her and keeping her safe.
Reading this book, I was Mia. I heard the sounds of the forest, felt the dirt under my nails. When she finally changed, I trembled as well. The sounds of bones crunching and the feel of fur growing. The scent of wolf. Amazing!
Purch Amazon Oct. 19, 2016 Savage (Underground Kings #0) by Kim Faulks Adult Dark Paranormal Romance Short 1.75 TSR Garbled and jumpy. Lacks flow. Very hard to read. The way it is written makes it very confusing as to what is happening and who it is happening to. It tries to make itself dark and scary. If the wording was different and the layout of the story was better, it would have accomplished that. Unfortunately all it does is confuse the heck out of the reader. I sincerely doubt I will try to read any more in this series. Just trying to read this short gave me a headache. July 26, 2017 – Finished Reading July 25, 2017 – Started Reading 5 Notes & Highlights (5 out of 5 visible)
It jumps directly into a terrifying struggle between the guards and the women, while they are being held in the Prison. As the guards turn their attention to her Sister, Sasha who is crying out in pain in the next cell. Torn with emotion as she is aware she's unable to help her Sister. Mia disovers in the chaos her cell door is unlocked, She finds her chance to free herself from the grips of the guards.
Mia is fleeing for her life but, as the story unfolds has she begins to question her surroundings, Has she stumbled into a worse situation...
The story is fast moving and full of raw emotion, the scenes are more vicious than i would usually read but it adds to story. Giving it a clear realistic edge to the situation.
I'm looking forward to following this series.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Mia has only known life from within a cell. Not only is she tormented by the Guards, but by the beast in her own body. She escapes and runs into the woods. She knows little except she needs to survive. Two werewolves take her in and try to convince her to give in to her beast. Yet will their strategy of pleasure and pain help her or only make it worse?
When I saw this described as a dark werewolf tale, I picked it up. It was not disappointing in that aspect. It was raw and viciously unapologetic. Mia is close to being a savage, but she retains a good heart and a sort of innocence that makes her sympathetic. It was a little confusing when we got to the two Alphas and their characterization, but we were seeing it through the distortion of Mia's eyes.
Recommended for fans who love dark shifter stories with brutal sex scenes.
This is an intense short story. It keeps you guessing at to what exactly is going on and leaves you wondering what is next. Mila has been institutionalized her whole life with her "sisters". She has a wolf inside that wants to break out but she worries that it will kill her. If she leaves, she has no idea what she will find. The people she meets once out of the institution are hard to understand and seem to have their agendas. Two wolf shifters may be the answer to her hope for freedom or might lead her to even more danger as they encourage her to let her wolf out. It is a great start to the series. I received a copy in return for a honest review.
Savage is about Mia who by the skin of her teeth escapes the only life she has ever known. Inside a cage. As luck would have it, she is found and rescued by Coen and Drake. Both want to possess her, but for different reasons. Will Coen with his dark eyes dominate her? Or will Drake's peaceful nature be the path to her heart? What happens when Guard catches up to her? Stay tuned, prepare to have your appetite whetted for more. Enjoy! I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a good start to a new series. The author does a great job of introducing Coen, Mia and Drake. Mia is being held captive in a cage by a person known as Guard. She is fighting the change to a shifter. Will she escape, survive or will she perish like the other women that were held captive there too? Are Coen and Drake who they appear to be or are they deceiving Mia? I enjoyed this story. I am curious who Guard works for and what they are planning. I also am curious where Mia will go in the next book in the series.
Very short novella that starts off the underground series. This story needed a lot of work as it felt jumbled together and rushed. There was not much character development and for what the heroine went through you really expected there to be. I did find the twist in the plot quite interesting as you didn't see it coming so I do have to give the author credit. All in all I believe it could have been better developed. Based on content this story is for an 18+ audience. I am an independent reviewer for Romance Authors That Rock and am giving this story 3 Hearts.
I've read my fair share of PNR and this one holds it's weight with the best of them.
From the start, this story comes out with punches and with each page turned, it just keeps getting intense.
What caught my attention and fascination was being able to "feel" Mia's shape shifting struggle, her pain, her confusion, her Mating needs. That was a first, and I LOVED IT. Well done, Kim Faulks. Well done.
For a prequel, it reels you in and leaves you wanting more. *Hoping that the rest of the series delivers the same intensity.*
I received an advance copy of this for an honest review. I do not know if it is better to read this first, or the main series; I was not sure who was going to survive, and it's not obvious as the story progresses. I was happy at the outcome; I'm still sorting out my feelings of the story as a whole. Mainly from the middle. If you are also a fan of Kim Faulks's work, you'll know, somewhat, what to expect.
4.5 Star review...Wow for a short book, I was a bit confused in some parts, but as soon as I knew what I was catching onto with Mia...where she was trapped by the call of the moon and her yearning to mate...but she runs. I hope she survives, but she will have to give in eventually to survive with the protection of the pack...I guess the only way to find out is too read the next book...Thanks to Kim Faulks for writing what you do...as an author you are appreciated...:)
Really dark, there is a MFM moment but it was to force her change. Not really understand much of this story, just that she was held in a prison with 9 other girls that had to change but died. So she ran and was taken in by two guys but they were not 'free' they were a part of the prison. Its a bit twisted for me but it was still something different to read.
Mia escapes captivity! Coen and Drake save her from recapture, but it's a lie, Coen will betray Drake and try to force Mia back into her cage. Mia turns the tables and saves Drake, but they are both injured and without food and clothing. Wow, I loved this book, I want to read more of this series!
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Survival, betrayal, hope and ruthlessness, with some sex scenes to round up the story. Very intense characters that you'll find twists and turns while reading. Check it out for yourself and see if you want it for your own personal library .
Really great start to this series. Interesting take on shifter's. I love when authors can take something that is written about a lot and twist it subtly to make it their own which is what Kim does with this story. The story twist keep you on yours toes so you are not sure what will happen next. Can not wait for the next part in this series!!
I received Savage as a free copy from the author. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. A somewhat bloodthirsty, yet interesting story about a female werewolf who escapes a lab. Lots of violence and angry sex. While I'm not too fond of the content, the story was well-paced and well-written to hold the reader's interest.
I know this is a prequel and meant to be short, but it just had too much going on and felt more like a synopsis, rather than a fleshed out story. Plus, the grammatical errors were annoying and the end was quite abrupt, leaving me shaking my head in confusion. I don't recommend this, unless threesome's between complete strangers is your thing.
When a small space and dear are all you know, and fighting is all you've done, not following your instinct can be deadly. Truly an interesting beginning getting set for a rise of a series. Good read.
This is a prequel to Underground Kings Mia is being held against her will and turned into a werewolf with others when a chance comes ,she escapes .Coen and Drake find her and get her through the change, but can they keep her safe ? I was given a copy for an honest review barwatts@telus.net
Wow, non-stop, page turner, read in all one sitting and I'm loving this. I absolutely love shifter books, you throw in non stop action and I'm hooked. Thank you Kim Faulks for giving me all I love in this perfect start to The Underground Kings Series. I can not wait to see what comes next.
This book was a good starting book . A short read so i didn't lose interest . I thought the sex scene with both guys was kinda hot but everything else was just kinda there. Not to exciting . But i do feel as though things could pick up and get much better into the next book .
I like the sketchy way that the main character thought and how she always seemed half-way wolfed out. The only thing I couldn't really attach myself to was the love interest. It felt way too rushed and unreal for me.
