Haven's Knight

Rate this book
When I was a little girl, I believed in fairy tales. I believed in princes and princesses and knights in shining armor. I believed in forever and happily ever afters.

I was ten when reality hit me. My mom brought the evil home with her and there was no escaping it. That's when I learned that fairy tales were just that: fairy tales. The bad stuff is real, though. The difference is that I now know that the monsters and evil villains don't always wear capes and ugly scars. No: most of the time, they appear normal.

I'm drowning in reality, in my life, and I've given up hope that a knight in shining armor will rescue me. But maybe... maybe I don't need a Prince Charming after all. Maybe a knight without the shining armor and a broken smile will be enough to save me.

Haven had a good childhood until it was ripped away in a moment. The last seven years she has endured her existence in a shell of her former self. She is trying to just get by day to day and all the bad stuff she has to live with, hopefully will soon be a thing of the past once she hits eighteen.

Damien Knight has his own secrets, he recognizes something in Haven he has never seen in another person. Damien is the schools bad boy, the guy who sleeps with the girls with zero commitment and that will never change. Damien decides as much as Haven has rebuffed his interest, he is going to find out what is going on and when he does he finds himself even more protective of her. Can two people so lost find a future no one saw coming?

This is a tissue book for sure. I thought it was powerful and I was surprised that the Haven-Damien connection is not instant. Everything is gradual and builds with each turn of the page. Excellent read.

Great Book

I really enjoyed this book. I read it first on wattpad but with it being so good I had to own it when I found out it was on amazon. The characters in this book take you on a roller coaster ride that you never want to get off of. I recommend this book to all romance lovers. Try it you will not be disappointed.

I received this for an honest review.. I have to say this book hooked me from the first page until the last.. So much that I could barely put it down.. I really wanna say that this book was a wonderful coming of age book and it was but it was just so much more than that!! This book pulled me and my emotions around like I could not even believe!!

This is the first book I have read by this author and it will not be my last..I so wish I could say more at this point but I dont believe in spoilers but I will say this as much as I loved this book and I DID.. The only thing I wish for is a bit more in an epilogue.. My rating for this is 4.5 well deserved emotional stars

4.5/5

An emotional read that's for sure. Made me cry a couple of times at the beginning. Definitely a good portrayal of domestic abuse, alcoholism, and just plain insanity. Beware before going into this, if any of that is triggering, but otherwise I recommend this to everyone.
Damien wasn't my favourite. He's a good dude, but nothing to special. His parents are amazing though, as well as he was, for taking great care of Haven.
I loved Haven. Such a strong woman.

Book: Haven's Knight
Author: Regan Ure
Type: Standalone
POV: Dual First Person (mostly Haven)
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: DNF

DNF at around 57%

Haven's Knight started out really well. It deals with the serious issue of domestic violence. It had potential but fizzled out quickly for me. The story itself was okay but I had problem with the writing style of the author. There were a lot of editing errors throughout the book. Even though English is not my native language, I noticed many mistakes. The story had unnecessary explanations and I found the pace a tad bit slow.

Another issue I had with the book was that Haven was a little unrealistic in the sense that she didn't know how to operate a cell phone. I mean this is the *twenty-first century.* Even if she personally didn't have a cell phone, she must have seen her mother or father use one before. In all ten years she lived with her father, she never used his phone? That's highly unfeasible. Also she must have seen other students in the school use one too.

And then there's Damien. Did he have to be a man-whore? Personally, I find this personality trait really disgusting. Why couldn't the author have made Chris the main love interest? IMO, he was so much better than Damien. I didn't like Damien at all. He acted jealous when Haven talked with another boy and felt pretty one-dimensional. Also, for the first 30% or so, this book had a lot of similarities with Ugly by Margaret McHeyzer.

"There are players, and then there's Damien Knight. He has a flavor of the week. He doesn't do dates or anything like that. I don't think he even knows how to spell commitment. For him it's just a fuck for the week and nothing else. Sometimes they don't even last a week. He holds the record for closing the deal the quickest: the rumor is that it took him less than five minutes."

The plot was too ridiculous but I couldn't stop reading. It was all too unrealistic for me. Also, it was a bit repetitive when the POV changed and everything was narrated again from another perspective.

Even though English isn't my first language I noticed some mistakes that bothered me.
I'm giving this two stars only because the story hooked me. However, by the end, everything felt overly optimistic and fake. The plot and the storyline aren't good, but the book was entertaining enough to finish it.

Best Book Ever. I really liked The way she described the feelings of the characters and I also loved the ending. I think that if you are looking to have mixed emotions because of a book I recomend you to read this one. I look forward to reading another book from this author.

I loved this book just as much I cried over the Boy Who Sneaks... I just wished I got more at the end, like an EPILOGUE. I'm such a sucker for more mushy endings and HEA. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this book.

This was such an adorable book. I loved every second of it. I love how the author takes such a dark subject, and makes it relatable <3 Can't wait to read more by Regan Ure!

There was drama... so much drama. I did not understand why they all liked heroine so much and wanted to protect the silent weirdo on sight, but okay. Maybe she was really pretty....

Where to begin…….. this book I don’t want to say was a let down but it didn’t live up to expectations. The story itself wasn’t bad, but I feel like the author had the idea and didn’t know how to create a story around it. Everything felt rushed. Haven and Damien were cute but them meeting twice or three times and Damien saying he knew he loved her was unrealistic. I feel like when the relationships were talked about between Haven and Chris, or Haven and Damien they seemed to have know each other for a while. Specifically, for example, when Chris started making sandwiches for her and she talked about how it became a routine when it happened TWICE. That’s what I felt was the biggest issue overall. There needed to be more time to develop these feelings so trust could form. All that needs to change is day to a week. The timeline just needed to be expanded because it felt rushed. I was tempted to give it 2 stars but was lenient when the ending was so cute. Another problem I had was when Haven said she finally had someone to love her. I get where she’s coming from but the way it was worded took all of the emotion and meaning out of Damien and Havens relationship. It made it feel as though Haven just wanted to be loved and didn’t care by who, that she just wanted attention. That one line made me feel as though Haven wasn’t in the relationship for the right reason. And lastly the word: irrespective. I couldn’t take it anymore, I felt like I read that word a billion times. All that’s needed is to go online and find a synonym. Those are what I felt was wrong with the book. If my dislikes were fixed I feel like the book what have been 5 stars.

Rarely do i find books that makes me cry my eyes out- those books are few and far between... but let me tell you, this book- Haven's Knight - ripped me up and left me sobbing like a baby! Never has a book left me so RAW! and it got me thinking when i finished reading this book, that this isn't just fiction, it happens all over the world.. There are several children out there who are sad to say abused the same way Haven was if not even worse than what she experienced.. And for the life of me, i simply cannot understand why there are so many evil people out there who do this to children.. What do they get out of abusing them? Why can't they pick on someone their own size? Are they too much of a coward that they have to pick on the little children? Mind blowing right? But if you cannot stand reading books about abuse, then my dear friends, skip this one.. But if you can, then by all means, read it and be ready to finish a box of tissues...

Well-rounded

Haven’s Knight is a well rounded book. The two main characters were fleshed out, and all the characters had individual personalities that strengthen relationships and made the story believable. The emotions expressed and internalized were realistic and organized smoothly. Events and plot lined up. Writing is clear, organized and engaging. I did not become attached to the characters, but thats on me.

- The book is mostly shown, not told.
- Trigger warning. School shootings, abuse, hospitals, death etc.

I loved the story of Haven very much. Haven lives with her mother and her stepfather in a new town. The mother is an alcoholic and the stepfather mistreats Haven. At school she meets Damian, who wants to be friends with her. That's all I can tell you right now without giving away too much of the story. The story is well told and exciting.

In need of editing!

This book is wonderful and heartbreaking. It also would have received at least 4 stars if it had been edited better. English is not my native language, but even I noticed several grammatical, or other, mistakes throughout the entire book. Very disappointing. However, the plot is great, if a bit obvious.

The story was okay, but there wasn't much of an action. Also there was so much describing insignificant activities, which was annoying. When the story was being narrated from both of the main characters one chapter was being repeated twice with very very slight difference, which caused lack of interest and boredom. I love most of her books, but this one didn't reach my expectations.

Good book

I was excited to rad this book. I thought overall the book s a good read. Damien and Haven have a nice story. Haven battles abuse from Grant. I was disappointed that the story at the end is really rushed.

Good storyline

There is a good idea in there somewhere but it needs a lot more work. The story jumps about and is badly edited. Vocabulary is limited and often repeated.
