Daisy Meadows and her fairies are my childhood. I collected so many in my youth, knowing all the fairies and their importance, and sticking with the two special girls who go to be a part of the magic.
Years ago I had to give my beautiful collection away, now still part of my childhood school where little girls are picking their favourite fairies and playing pretend. It's fun to hear stories from my old teachers telling me how over the years so many students have grabbed these books and fallen in love with the tales of two girls, Jack Frost and the fabulous glittering magic that is the fairies.
On Christmas last year, my sister surprised me with a boxset of these books, but cause you cannot collect these darlings as easily anymore. I was over the moon!
If anyone has a little one who needs a little magic in their life, wants to read and needs a big creation to be hooked on...it is Daisy Meadows!

I remember finishing this book when I was around eight and then running around the house yelling "LOOK AT THIS MASSIVE BOOK I JUST FINISHED!!! AREN'T YOU PROUD OF ME?!! DID I MENTION THAT I FINISHED A MASSIVE BOOK!?" Now I just look at it and go ".....................................I though that was big?! I mean, I read novels with like nine hundred dang pages in them............." But still, this is a great book and I think the first Rainbow Magic book I had ever read. This one might be my favorite one for that reason, but I do really enjoy it and even go back and read it just for fun every once in a while. Alicia the Snow Queen Fairy is in charge of making winter, well, wintery! But when Jack Frost steals what she needs to make winter extra magical, the whole season could be in danger! Will Kirsty and Rachel, two girls who know about the magic of Fairyland, be able to help save winter? Thank you for reading! Follow @bronteandwilder on Instagram for more fun book recommendations!

0.25 Stars!

A list of everything that salvaged the book for me:
-Alicia’s design - everything about it was perfect from the hair to the sparkly blue gown and furry coat, and of course her crown!
-The girls’ winter outfits are so cute! (All their outfits throughout the book were cute, especially the cloaks Alicia had them wear, they were the only saving grace.)
-I love the design of Alicia’s house, I found it so unique and adorable!
-That scene of Jack Frost reading to his goblins was so cute! (But also very much so giving exes energy. If this wasn’t a kids' book, Jack Frost and Alicia/the Snow Queen would absolutely be exes, mark my words.)
-Lowkey, the snowflake being kept in a bell jar like the rose from Beauty and the Beast is kinda funny.
-The goblins getting annoyed because Jack Frost won’t stop reading The Snow Queen to them is objectively funny, because why were they behaving like kids who had to hear their dad talk shit about their mom and it’s the same story over and over again. (lmao, the goblins are children of divorce confirmed)
-I WAS KIDDING ABOUT THEM BEING EXES. This delusional behaviour is truly the least surprising thing to come from Jack Frost, but I honestly thought he was gonna say some shit like ‘there can be no snow queen for I am the snow king’ but I guess Jack Frost just isn’t misogynistic enough for that. (Why can’t manifestation work like this for me in other situations?)
-0.5 Stars for Alicia’s spell to conjure up treats to distract the goblins because there was an actual rhyming incantation involved and not just ‘sparkle sparkle poof’ here are the treats. Addressing them as ‘Love From Jack Frost’ was just mean, I didn’t even know Alicia had that type of energy in her. She really thought of everything with this plan of hers because wdym the scarves you conjured are magical and stop the wearer from hearing anything.
-“Jack Frost is a coward.” - YES RACHEL!!! Oh I just know she’s been sitting on that since Ruby the Red Fairy.
-“I love it when you come to stay.” - Aw, Rachel! <3
-“Winter is a beautiful season, but no one wants a season to last forever. People will start to dislike it!” - I like this sentiment, it’s the first correct take they’ve had on winter so far.
-What kind of core strength does Kirsty have that she was able to pull the goblin that got caught on her fishing line? Whatever, it was still funny and kind of badass.
-“I guessed that one of those pesky fairies was sending snacks down, but I was the only goblin who thought of a way to keep the rose safe and eat my snacks.” - I mean, I’m impressed Goblin #3, I see who has the collective braincell now.

A list of everything that pissed me off, aka me complaining about every key plot point:
-None of the items made any sense and their execution didn’t help either.
=>“The magical snowflake makes winter weather just right.” - I thought I was gonna need more than that, and then I got more than that and made everything so much worse. The snowflake’s use was elaborated on by saying that it makes winter “beautiful and calm, and never too harsh or too cold” and that pissed me off so much because that is just not a thing. Maybe Jack Frost still has the snowflake because I haven’t seen a pretty winter in ages. And there was this line that also pissed me off: “It feels like needles on my face,” Rachel said with a frown. Rachel, I’m gonna hold your hand when I say this, that’s how winter’s unfortunately supposed to feel. They’re clearly only referring to winter in warmer climates in this book and overall it all felt very strange to me. (What the fuck is “winter sunshine” supposed to be? THERE IS NO SUCH THING, DON’T PISS ME OFF.)
=>“The enchanted mirror helps everyone to see the difference between good and bad.” - What the fuck does this have to do with winter or the Snow Queen? Nothing, actually, and it doesn’t even have anything to do with morality, it's just causing people to either forget how to do things or behave super out of character. Tomato, tomato, tomato.
=>“The everlasting rose ensures that new life is still growing underground, and that flowers will appear again each spring.” - Jack Frost literally could’ve just taken this and called it a day. This is the only item that is remotely interesting and has something to do with winter, but I can’t even appreciate it because if you put it together with the other two, it makes no sense. Also, why does the book end with the girls saying now they can get ready for Spring even though it’s December?!
-If Alicia is the “Snow Queen” fairy, why is the Snow Queen also a fairy tale that Alicia has nothing to do with, and what would any of this have to do with winter?! She should’ve been the Winter Solstice fairy!
-Jack Frost kidnapping baby fairies and stealing their wands to make them do as he says is a horrifying situation to think about, especially as an adult! (And him grabbing Kirsty like, unhand her before I grab you and swing you into your ugly ice castle wall.)
-They also definitely Disney-fied the Snow Queen fairy tale to make it more appropriate for this book.
-This book has the worst ending out of any Rainbow Magic book I’ve ever read because there is simply no resolution on Jack Frost’s end. The girls get the last time and that’s the end, we don’t know if Jack Frost changed his mind about being with the Snow Queen or if he actually suffered consequences for his actions for once.
-Fuck this book.

I read this with my niece. It was her first chapter book. She loved it. It had adventure and fairies. She is in kindergarten and the reading lever is 2-3 grade. A nice series for kids to start with. There are 3 objects Alicia the Snow Queen Fairy lost to Jack Frost and she needs the help of Rachel and Kirsty to get them back - the rose, the mirror and the magic snowflake. The goblins are an obstacle but they aren't too scary either. A great chapter book to start with for children.

Alicia the Snow Queen Fairy As far as I can tell all the fairy books are the same. A fairy has a problem (because of Jack Frost or his goblins). The girls help the fairy. Everyone is happy at the end. They're pretty inane and formulaic. Very marshmallow-y. Which I expected. The special edition ones are like three books in one. I will probably never read one again in my life if I can help it.

Read dozens of these to my daughters. You can finish them in 1-2 days. They’re formulaic but the kids still love them.

I think that the goblins are foolish and so is Jack Frost. Jack Frost is so mean when he confused the young fairies into helping him. I also think that goblins are too proud and easy fooled.

I read this book because it's storybook day at my daughter's school today. It is also her fall party. So I decided to dress up as the snow queen but I also wanted to know what the story was about! It's a cute story.
