Verdict: Parenthood is the second book in the Big Apple Babies series by Jule McBride. I read this paperback as part of my personal monthly challenge to read one paperback per month. I have had this on my shelf for literally years. I picked it up at a library book sale and it is my first book by this author. I have been in a books with babies binge and this fit perfectly. What a wonderful surprise it was.
Grantham Hale is thirty two years old. He is a widow. He is also a very successful business man in New York.
Phoebe Rutherford is about twenty seven years old I believe. She is divorced from the worst excuse of a husband you can ever imagine.
About a year prior, both Phoebe and Grantham were at the lowest of lows, when they met in a bar. Both had lost all hope. But as the night progressed, their bond deepened and they gave each other what they needed most, hope. No names were exchanged, just an unforgettable night that changed their lives. Only the next morning when Grantham woke, the woman who had made such an impression on him was gone.
Ten months later, Grantham is about to have his dream of being a father come true when he is in court finalizing the adoption of both a set of twins and a set of quadruplets! Only, the quads mother who was presumed deceased has shown up in court to claim custody. A very mischievous judge decides five weeks of the two living together and caring for the babies is what needs to happen before any decisions are made.
First, my heart both broke for Phoebe and also swelled with pride at how strong she was. Her ex husband had done everything in his power to ruin her life but she prevailed. Now, though, trust was not something she was capable of when it came to men. Grantham is rich and powerful. No matter how kind he is, how good of a father he proves to be to the babies, how does she know that he won’t turn around and hurt her like her ex did?
Add in the mix of some very unscrupulous lawyers and you’ve got a crazy tale of two people who desperately want to be happy, to fall in love, to raise the babies, but are hitting roadblocks right and left!
This was such a good little book and I’m so glad I chose it this month. I still have to force myself each month to put down my kindle and choose a book off the shelf but each and every month, it has turned out to be so rewarding!
this book was so awesome i wished that the girl would have been a little more down to earth but when it was all said and done she got the gut and the kids lol
