Adam Armstrong

His previous titles include three books starring maverick detective Aden Vanner and another three featuring FBI agent Harrison, as well as two novels originally published under the pseudonym Adam Armstrong, his great-grandfather’s name. He received acclaim for ghostwriting Long Way Down, the prize-winning account of a motorcycle trip from Scotland to the southern tip of Africa by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. Out of Afrika in huidig Schotland
Aanbevolen door een vriendin worstelde ik me vol onbegrip door de eerste bladzijden heen. Ik begreep vooral niet waar het verhaal naar toe wilde gaan. Maar ze zei het niet voor niets. En dan gaat bij mij de eigenwijs knop aan en wil ik ontdekken wat ze bedoelde.
En opeens vátte ik het! Het luipaardspoor is een prachtig verhaal over een tragedie dat het leven van een jongen en meisje verwoestte en hun levens voorgoed in liefde aan elkaar beklonk.
Imogen, hoofdpersoon, heeft ‘het tweede gezicht’. Ze verblijft het liefst in de wilde natuur van hoog Schotland.
Daardoor reis je met haar mee door het ruige landschap en lees je veel over de fauna als arenden en zelfs luipaarden. Ik besef nu pas wat een verlies het is dat we in Nederland geen echte wilde, woeste natuur meer hebben. Het is al lang weg. Het is een te klein land en we wilde teveel welvaart.

Twee mensen hebben in hun jeugd een drama meegemaakt, en door een verhuis zijn ze elkaar kort daarna uit het oog verloren. 30 jaar later kampen ze nog altijd met onverwerkte emoties, angsten en wantrouwen. Dan brengt het lot (of de natuur misschien) hen terug samen, maar het blijkt zeer moeilijk om het verleden een plaats te geven.
Vooral heel mooie beschrijvingen en scènes van de natuur, zeer levendig beschreven. Ik vond het ook leuk hoe beide personages een wild dier waar ze een soort relatie mee hebben, een naam geven, Connla noemt de poema die hem altijd bezoekt Mellencamp, en Imogen heeft de hertebok die ze regelmatig ziet, en die soms op haar lijkt te wachten, Redynvre genoemd.

ik kwam deze tegen in de boekenkast van mijn favoriete koffieplek. Zag er ok uit, dus nam ik m mee. Het verhaal is sterk, bijzonder en leest lekker. Einde is leuk maar had van mij ook anders gemogen. maar dat is smaak. een happy end is gewoon goed.

Een heel leuk en vermakelijk boek!
Twee volwassenen die in hun kindertijd een dood hebben gezien en meegemaakt. En het ergste is nog dat de dood van het jongetje die omgekomen is in de Salmon in Amerika zijn jongere zusje, Imogen, heeft gezien.
In Schotland treffen Connla en Imogen elkaar weer en bouwen een nieuwe band op, alleen Connla met leugens.
Ik had een ander einde gehoopt en dat ze bij elkaar zouden komen, maar voor de rest heeft dit boek me op sommige stukjes aan het huilen gemaakt.
Het begin vond ik langdradig en het einde een beetje vaag, dus daarom een 3⭐️

In het begin had ik wat moeite met het lezen van dit boek, ik vroeg mij af wat de personages met elkaar te maken hadden ...
Als je ongeveer op 1/3e van het boek bent, begin je de verhaallijn te begrijpen en is het een spannend en romantisch verhaal.
Ik lees niet vaak romans maar door dit boek zal ik wel vaker een roman gaan lezen :-D

Lapsena eronneet ja aikuisena taas kohdanneet. Heidän lapsuutensa muistot ovat tarinan lähtökohta tapahtumille ja kun villikissoja etsivä eläintieteilijä saapuu Iso-Briatanniaan muistot nousevat erityisen paljon esille.

This book suprised me. I really liked this book. The story is lovely and the caracters are realy clear. Adam Armstrong (Jeff Gulvin) deserves more recognition!

This is not a genre I normally read so I really have nothing with which to make a comparison. The story was interesting but to me slow. I had hoped for more 'nature'.

Een prachtig natuur boek dat ons veel bijbrengt van het leven in de wilde woestenij van Amerika.
Zoals van Adam Armstrong gewend, vlot geschreven en met kennis van de streek en de natuur waarover hij schrijft.

A childhood tragedy haunts those involved, resulting in unconventional and solitary lives. Imogen paints and rides in the wilds of Scotland while Connla photographs wild cats in South Dakota. Events pull them back together amidst misunderstandings and ominous events.
The characters were believable, rich and complex. The storyline had a touch of mysticism but it was not over done, instead it enhanced the experience.
Plot points were not dragged out for effect, things had a natural flow and despite some of the more hard to believe aspects, was handled in a way that led them to appear very believable. Really enjoyed this book!

I found this to be a very engrossing read. I enjoyed both the descriptions of numerous animals, wildlife and nature present in the text and also (being a Scot) the mentions of numerous places in central and northern Scotland which I recognised. The story is an interesting one - there are some plot twists which I didn't see coming and the characters are quite curious. Perhaps some aspects of the plot aren't entirely believable as such but I felt it was mostly quite realistic and I enjoyed following how the story progressed. I found myself picturing the various landscapes and what happened in my head - it was a very enjoyable and quite engrossing read. I'd happily recommend this book.

After two fairly mediocre books (not reviewed), it was a relief to turn to this novel which I’d read many years ago. Starting with a tragic accident in the USA when a young girl, Imogen, who has a vision enabling her to guide police to where her brother is discovered drowned while her brother’s friend, Connla, is close by. Many years later, the pair are reunited in the wilds of Scotland where Imogen has settled and where Connla comes in search of a rare animal. The descriptions of the scenery and the wild life are wonderful. Add to this a haunting love story and the end product is a lovely book.

This (apparently coverless) novel is gorgeous (including the lovely cover).
With the most beautiful imagery of the landscape, the clear tone and passion for nature. A predictable but eager love story. With depth and precision in words Armstrong captures the story beautifully, would recommend it in a heartbeat and read in a few hours. A novel worth anyone's time.

Ik ben normaal niet zo voor liefdesverhalen, maar ik vond vooral de prachtige beschrijving van de natuur, dieren en Schotland fantastisch. Dit boek heeft ervoor gezorgd dat ik Schotland ooit wil bezoeken.
Geen vernuft verhaal of gebruik van taal, maar wel een mooie schets van Schotland.
